Bebop, you're probably right ..... the banning has nothing to do with the illnesses, BUT, the illness situation is the driving force behind this round of vape demagoguery.  The general public is so under informed about vaping that anything negative about vaping is ammunition.  And someone dieing while associated with vaping is a huge piece of ammunition that can and is being used to fuel the ignorant anti-vapers. It's just wrong!!! My feeling is the tobacco and pharma lobbyists are really enjoying this round of hysteria. According to my newspaper this morning, Michigan and New York have already banned flavored vape gear way ahead of any thoughtful Investigation on the matter.  I'm still pissed.  Had occasion to see a friend yesterday who is a vaper and the conversation eventually turned to the current vape issue.  She was "scared to vape" because of the filtered information she was hearing.  Like I said,  ignorant people making uninformed decisions.

Nice article, but my thoughts are it is a bit light on pointing fingers at what's/who's driving the vape persecution.  I smoked 50 years, was introduced to vape and vaped 4+ years till I quit everything about 2 years ago.  Even though I'm no longer an active participant in the vape community, this vilification of vapers/ing still has me pretty pissed.  I understand the anguish and hurt around the sickness and deaths, but a knee jerk reaction to ban everything is just plain wrong.  From everything I've read or heard, the culprit seems to be a new ingredient to the vape scene, a type of vitamin E.  Which brings the question ..... how to successfully ban just one ingredient.  Instead, the answer seems to just ban everything.  That should make tobacco and pharma happy.  Stupid!!
If I were still vaping I would be stocking up on my fav flavors. Just in case.

aufin got a reaction from cany in Study linking vaping to heart attacks muddied amid spat between two tobacco researchers
To begin with, any "study" coming out of California, I automatically look at as suspect.  When it comes to whether vape or smoke cigarettes, I much prefer my chances vaping over cigarettes.  And ..... it may seem a bit morbid to think about, but I would choose to have "my lights go out" with a heart attack than spend my last days in agony with lung cancer from smokes.  Now, with that said I'm not in favor of rushing either outcome.  That's why after 50 years of smoking cigarettes, after a friend offered me his vape rig to try, I went out and bought myself a setup.  The day I started vaping I put cigarettes down and havent looked back.  That was 6+ years ago.  Vaped 4 years, stopped vaping 2 years ago.  So I guess that means now I dont have to worry about having a heart attack or lung cancer.

My suggestion would be for you to find a vape store that gives a rats-*** about you and understands the value of customer service for building repeat customers.  Evidently the sales guy just wanted to sell you something with no regard for your lack of experience.  E-cigarette aren't rocket science, but there is a small learning curve.
The above also is directly related to your desire, or lack of, to give up cigarettes.  If your goal is to drop cigarettes, then start with an inexpensive  entry level rig, learn what's going on and proceed from there.  Don't allow yourself to be talked into getting the latest 'n greatest cloud chaser equipment.  You've already discovered how expensive and discouraging that experience can be.  There are some of us in the vaping community who are still using pretty basic equipment ..... and are quite satisfied.
Many vape shops just want your money and send you on your way.  Finding the right vape store can be tough, sometimes.

By far, this is the best, most powerful paragraph in the article... and what many of us (including myself) have been saying since they first began talking about "vaping regulations"....
"The potential harm of misguided e-cigarette regulation is magnified by the fact that powerful special interests seek to manipulate such regulation for their benefit. As my co-authors and I discuss in this new article from the Yale Journal on Regulation, current e-cigarette regulation is a product of a “Baptist & Bootlegger” coalition of well-intentioned health activists and tobacco companies. E-cigarette policy is also shaped by pharmaceutical companies, which see vaping products as a source of competition for their (largely ineffective) tobacco cessation products. I discuss these dynamics further here. "

Sorry to say, but cloud comps are hurting people that vape responsibly, IMO. I like a  good cloud myself, but I generally use a rig and juice that don't produce clouds unless I am home. I used to smoke cigars, and could produce clouds very comparable to those pictured, granted a different technique. Vaping IMO is meant to get people away from smoking and the stigma attached to it. Most nonsmokers see vaping exactly the same as they do smoking due to the visual clouds. I can get my nic fix with barley any visual evidence, and no smell offensive to most. I vape a coffee flavor when at work as there is always a coffee maker or someone with a cup close, and  make sure I am not around anyone that minds the minor cloud I make.
To each their own, not judging, but had to comment.

Well, so much for being the "information age". The U.S has become a nation of sheeple.

I've just about given up trying to steer someone away from the dark side. I get looks like I'm trying to sell snake oil, or get excuses- "I've heard it can cause pneumonia", "ecig are just as bad as cigarettes", "I'm afraid it might blow up". Ya just can't fix stupid.

The U.S and Europe are going in opposite directions with vaping. Just doesn't make any sense.

Hmmm, timely question.  I've been thinking about my drip tip(s) lately.  Not so much as to the preferred shape, but where my DT goes during the day.  It goes in my pocket, both pants and shirt, on the car seat, on the dash (and on the floor), on table/counter tops of eateries where they're sometimes "inspected" by someone interested, and occasionally on the ground......and in my mouth.  Which got me thinking about making a special one just for me with .999 silver.  Pure silver has some amazing antibacterial properties, so, since I have the equipment, know-how, and the "want to" I'ma thinking I'm going to make myself a one of a kind DT.  Right after I decide on a shape......and source some proper O rings .........and find a few of those "round tuit's"   Haven't caught anything from my DT that I know of (yet), but .........  Could be an interesting project.

We will likely be mourning the "good ole days" sad to say.

but I agree with Christopher, the sad truth and the real tragedy is that this "regulation" will slow the progress of getting people smoke free.  Period.  Cost to the consumer will no longer be an incentive.  Effectiveness of the cig-a-like with regard to quitting will pale in comparison with the gear we have now.  There will be a lot more failure and some may even revert to analogs.

I am am very proud of the fact that I am no longer pouring money in to the coffers of big tobacco. I'm proud of the great success I have had thanks to those before me who have shown me a way out of this trap.  And I'm proud of the fact that my wife and I have converted many people over to vaping with about a 95% success rate largely because I got the knowledge and had options to recommend to people based on their smoking habits.
I absolutely stand by sensible regulation designed to raise the standard of this industry. Of course we want it safe and we aren't trying to hook a new generation on an unhealthy lifestyle.  But I am sorry, this is not progress where it really matters - the effective reduction of smoking related disease.  This is a set back and frankly, a travesty for many people who will miss out on the benefits and opportunity offered by a well meaning community with a REAL solution to smoking related harm.  This is three steps forward and two steps back.
I hope I'm wrong.  I hope there is great success for future vapers.  But I can't help but feel a little like I've been scooped up and tossed back in to the waiting arms of big tobacco by association alone after I've worked so hard to get out of it's grasp.

The FDA mentioned it will have a "task force" set in place to enforce these regulations. But more important is that states now have the right (again we're still going through all of this documentation) to not only enforce currently regulations but to enforce their own regulations.
You mentioned how will this affect Vapor Talk and it's community and I can say that we will not, within the law, stifle or suppress conversation. The greatest right we have in this country is the right to free speech. Though most are unaware on the forum, we've had many cease and desist orders. One of them was actually from a well known candy company. (They asked us to remove three topics or face a lawsuit) my reply letter which is certified is actually up in my office with the rest. My response in legal jargon basically said "kiss my ***." (We were in the right) additionally we'd not only counter sue financially but would add a rider requesting partial payment in candy. (It's actually a pretty hilarious go between) This was before I sold Vapor Talk to The Whitney Group.
Now to answer you questions about Vapor Talk. There are many big changes coming for VT as a company. (Many of you might have noted I've been absent for a couple of years outside of website maintenance) After a generous offer, I recently took back a large controlling stock in the company and am now sitting on the board. Additionally we're signing a multimillion dollar venture to push Vapor Talk globally (Two sister companies are opening in Asia and Europe) Furthermore we're releasing US created and mixed e-liquids 6 weeks from now +-. (That's about all I can mention before the PR release. The lawyers get antsy when I post. I was lovingly told not to be like the T Mobile CEO. I took that as a compliment) While many companies have gone up the popular chain and back down, we've been quietly working behind the scenes.  It's taken a year of painstaking work after watching Vapor Talk struggle after leaving, but I can assure you -  It feels like old times again with the regulation, we've been expecting this for quite time.
I might not be this most filtered board member a company has ever brought back but let's be honest, the United States wasn't founded on following the rules. As someone who was British born, I like to think I'm keeping the tradition going. I hope and feel most vapers are on board. Vaping has always been the wild west industry and while we support proper, reasonable regulation, this recent release is total corporate backed horse****. Vapor Talk is your platform for communication on this and we're not going to sit back while the FDA pushes vapers back to traditional tobacco.

Found out the hard way that this is an important ingredient to getting a good mix.  Used "pure" VG from a health food store, but  "kosher" wasn't listed on the label.  Don't know what the difference is between "pure" and "pure kosher", but it sure makes a difference in taste.  Juice  mixed with VG from the health food store tasted like ...... well, have no comparison, but it sure tasted nasty.  My "pure and kosher" now comes premixed with nic from Wizard Labs.

You SHOULD be proud of yourself.  My experience with e-cigs was pretty much the same as yours (hospital not included), but fortunate to find a very helpful vape store to patiently walk me through everything.  Walked out with basic vape gear almost 3 years ago, put the smokes down and haven't had even one since that day. Be proud of your accomplishment and stay the course.  You won't regret it.

Don't own one, but from just looking at the picture your decoration thought seems doable as long as the material you want to use is not porous.  For versatility, why not consider a very thin metal inner core machined to the proper inner dimension and a variety of outer pieces you could slide over the inner cylinder whenever the mood strikes.
