Burn got a reaction from Mark in Getting back up to speed.
Vape Veteran here that has not been keeping up with the latest greatest for the past 2 years. I have to pick up another mod for myself and want to know if there has been anything out there better than the ProVari, before I order another one?
My requirements:
Variable voltage/wattage
18650 compatible
anything else is pretty much a bonus. My needs are really pretty simple.
I am still thrilled with my ProVari, I just need to pick up another e-cig. Is Provari still the King or is there something else I should consider? I have been digging around this forum and it appears there are tons of options but probably nothing extraordinary.
Also, is the ProVape Tank system (v2) worth picking up? Tanks were in early stages when I stopped following and they were leaky, dependent on cartomizers etc. It seems like they have gotten much better, based on the reviews. One of my favorites was one used for the precious that used 510 attys that fed from the bottom, any chance there are any of those types around?
Anyone care to get a "Rip Van Winkle" up to speed.
Thanks as always. (special greets to Chris/Jeff and Mark, presuming they are still enlightening those around here)

Burn got a reaction from Thesheepdog in Beginning to wonder what Mod I want-Suggestions?
I own a bunch of VV mods from Provari/The Precious on down and towards the lower end, my "kick around" model is the Lambo, I liked it so much for travelling I got a second one for my car. if you have batteries and chargers, $55 for the body is pretty reasonable, Starter kit is $80.00. They are chrome, sturdy and pretty good quality, I have been banging on them daily for over a year and they hold up.

Burn reacted to Christopher in Box Elder Scandal
I was thinking the same thing while listening to the interview. Being a CEO has nothing to do with the quality of your products or what went wrong. What's more important is how you plan to prevent this for happening or better yet how this happened in the first place.
Are there MSDS sheets in the office, are there written SOP's in place for employees. You can't really fault them if they're not aware of the procedures. Employees should have hands on training followed by readily available documentation should they need a refresh. Employees should be reviewed and monitored closely especially when chemicals that are being ingested into someones lungs are involved.
When you mess up a bad batch of cookies at your local bakery, you get bad tasting cookies. When you mess up a batch of e liquid, especially when the chemical mixture is as high as double the base labeled dosage - Someone gets sick. Very sick.
At the very least I hope other DIY and American e Liquid suppliers learn from this. I wouldn't want to see a habit made out of this.

Burn got a reaction from Uma in Box Elder Scandal
Very Scary, I have been DIY for coming up on 2 years and I feel naive that I never really thought enough about this to expect this to happen but it was likely inevitable.
I have had a negative opinion about Gourmet Vapor but it had nothing to do with nic levels, I just thought it tasted terrible. I am grateful I found MFS and their nic performs the way I expect it to. However, regulation is desperately needed and I always believed it has have been.
I listened to the interview that Brian linked and the owner of Box Elder spends too much time saying "I am a CEO" than actually addressing that there could be a problem. When the host asks a question, listen to the response and ask yourself if he answered the question.
IMO? Glad you asked.
Shady, Shady, Shady.

Burn got a reaction from Strykker118A in Anyone Tried Boba's Bounty From Ave?
I don't necessarily believe in all day vapes as I get pretty tired or desensitized to them, I prefer to use 2-3 flavors each day and Boba's is always in the rotation. I vape it most evenings. Simply one of the best juices I have tried. Awesome.

Burn got a reaction from Uma in Liquinator Tank
I am a direct dripper and will do that whenever I can but I don't like dripping and driving so I have been looking for an alternative. Cartridges are terrible, Boge cartomizers were great at one point but they burn too easily unless you are frequently dripping or refilling them, which doesn't serve well as a direct drip alternative while driving. I then got an ego Tank and I can not get the flavor or performance to be suitable. Next came the MAP Tank mod which is perfect, for about 5 ML and then no matter what I do, the flavor goes south very quickly. I picked up a Precious Lv2, with the auto feeder, it works great but the unit was essentially DOA after 3 hours and I am now waiting on a replacement (since march!) The MAP was the best but only getting 5ML per carto was pretty frustrating.
I recently received a Liquinator Tank Mod. This one uses the BOGE carto again but this time, they cut slits in the bottom of it so that the liquid that surrounds the carto is constantly being saturated. It has not flooded the carto for me at all. The flavor and performance is great and the carto has not burned in 20 ML. I think this may be the perfect solution and wanted to share it with VT.
They do charge 5.95 for shipping then proceed to ship it first class... That is my only gripe and in the end it isnt really a big gripe.
Cutting the slot is very easy if you have a dremel or in my case, I use a drill with a dremel cutting disc.

Burn got a reaction from Golddust in Cartomizer Vs Atomizer
I know many wont agree but when you consider everything; cost of attys vs cartos/ flavor, maintenance, etc. i just drip into cartos now and will let my collection of 35 or so atomizers just collect dust until i donate them to a vaping museum as evidence of how "we used to vape back in the beginning".
Seriously, I cant think of a good reason to use a straight atty unless I am testing out flavor recipes.

Well technically there is a chocolate chip juice, except it's just called chocolate, cuz that's all chocolate chips are. Unless, of course, you mean a chocolate chip COOKIE flavored juice, that is...

Burn got a reaction from Brian in Honey Vs Honey
I have both, they are very different. I like them both (beez more than Xpress) but to answer your question, they are quite different and not similar at all. To be honest, if you were to ask me my favorite honey tobacco maker, besides my DIY blend, it HAS to be VapeRite. They are the ones that got me started on my honeybacco binge are great quality and the flavor balance is very good. His is called Honey Horn Tobacco.
Beez does not have a tobacco taste, in case that is what you are looking for but it is nice, I consider it a "dessert vape".

Burn got a reaction from alexiiccossa in Help From Tobacco Flavor Lovers
I bought an ego for a family member and they love it. The issue I am having with them is flavors. I have given them some of my favorites and they don't like them. To my horror, they said "the best flavor are the ones that came with the kit". She is referring to the sample cartridges that ship with 510 and the eGos. I gave her all I had but now she has gone through those and I don't have any tobacco flavoring on hand.
Can some of you 'bacco flavor lovers make a recommendation for someone who taste buds are so dysfunctional they think the sample cartridges are good?
Thanks, I am sure there are a few that will give me spot on advice, I would rather swim in the Gulf of Mexico than vape tobacco flavored juice. =)

Burn got a reaction from AARONH in Where Is The Best Place To Buy Nicotine?
IMHO, trying to match or come close to a particular flavor is a losing game, just too difficult. I have taken a different approach. "Hmmm, I like supplier X's honey tobacco" I started with a good sweet tobacco and then bought some different honey flavors and tried combinations of them and at different proportions. Touched up with a few drops of menthol and a tiny twist of clove and I have what is my "perfect" signature vape, tailored for me. Can't get it anywhere else in the world but in my lab and it suits me even more than the original suppliers.
The point I am making is that chasing the perfect vape for YOUR tastes is far easier than trying to match a particular brand/recipe. I think alot of people become frustrated when first mixing, I relieved my frustration by taking a pragmatic approach to it.

Burn got a reaction from AARONH in Where Is The Best Place To Buy Nicotine?
Sharon beat me to it but I have been buying nic from Freedom smokes for a year now. Quality is very good and reliable and they run out promos like the one Sharon referenced that make it a good buy too. I have purchased 450ml from them so far over 4 orders and they are very consistent. I wouldn't buy from anyone else.

Burn reacted to Burn in Your Opinion On What Pv Should I Get!
Great they are adding colors, may pick up a black one. One correction on the Joker, the current models shipping also have drip wells. When I purchased my repair for the Joker last week, I requested that they put the drip well on it. They also change switches and colors, upon request with any repair (paid).
Naturally, you choose the body/light color for the Joker when you order it.

Burn reacted to Brian in Your Opinion On What Pv Should I Get!
Nice Burn. I'll add that the Provari has a drip well so if you get a leak it won't run down the side and make a mess. If you get a leak with the Joker you have a mess before you know you have a leak. Some time today the provari is suppose to be available in two more colors... black and chrome. I like that the Provari only uses one battery.

Burn reacted to Burn in Your Opinion On What Pv Should I Get!
I think, first and foremost, a variable voltage mod should be the priority. this will allow you to adjust the device to your liking and find the combination that works best for you. In addition, you will find that you no longer will notice the performance deteriorating over the charge of a battery. VV mods maintain the same voltage all the way through. The Omega and Prodigy will not offer that for you. I own both the ProVari and Joker.
The Joker is less expensive to get started with (119 for device/battery and charge kit, + 17 for voltage reader) than the provari (159 for device, additional 40 for batteries and charger, additional 20 if you want the 18650 batteries). approx $140 vs $200/$220
The Provari does offer longer battery life than the Joker. I am a heavy vapor so the results are specific to me but is all relative. The Provari with 18500 battery lasts me 7-10 hours, the 18650 lasts me 12 -16 hours. The Joker batteries last me 4-6 hours. As long as you have the backup batteries charged, like any other e-cig, it is just a matter of how often you have to change the batteries.
The Joker is considerable smaller in width than the Provari. The Provari is much heavier than the Joker, by a wide margin. As far as appearance, I think they are both attractive, the Joker comes in many colors, Provari 1.
As far as function, they are both similar in what they do, the Provari does have a built in voltmeter and ohm reader for the atomizer resistance and the voltage is changed though clicks of the ignition button. The Joker requires a multimeter or voltage meter (listed in the pricing)and a screwdriver to change the voltage. From my experience, once you find a voltage you like, you rarely change it. I don't think I have changed voltage in 6-8 months, once I found my preferred settings.
They both perform the same, they apply a set amount of voltage to the atomizer and it is consistent. The performance itself is identical.
There is a big difference in warranties, the Provari is 1 year while the Joker is 90 days. I have sent my Provari back twice now and they returned it promptly and were very pleasant. I only had one repair with the Joker and I did have to pay for it ($36 repair + shipping). Both companies were great to work with and when I had issues, they called me to discuss.
I love both products and use both, I find the Joker easier to carry around but the Provari is a endurance beast (18650 batteries, that is).
If you are very cost conscious, the Joker may make a better value. The only repair I have had was from a long fall on concrete. The 2 Provari repairs were for a programming issue and a malfunction.
I think the big difference is in size. Some may say that the Provari has more built in features, which I agree with, but in the end the features (built in voltage voltage adjuster and battery/resistance meter) are convenient to have but I personally do not access them very often so I dont find them critical to the enjoyment of the product.
There ya have it, a comparison of the 2 leading (In my opinion) variable voltage devices, through my experience.
Good luck.

In fact, I would argue that vaping is prolonging the life of human beings, the number one cause of DESTROYING the planet.
I wouldn't say that vaping is very green at all....

Burn got a reaction from PsychoMaster in 3.7 V Vs 5.0 And Low Rez Atomizers
Think about the process like this.
There is a coil that is at the center of every e-cig. It heats up the liquid and produces the vapor. IF you increase the power(wattage) of the coil you increase the heat which will change the output of the vapor. How it changes it can be a little subjective but higher voltage typically produces greater vapor volume and can diminish the flavor. Once again this is subjective but it is important to recognize that the variable that I am discussing is the heat of the coil.
A higher voltage battery will increase the power, therefore the heat of the coil. You also must realize that there is another factor of the equation and that is the resistance of the coil/atomizer. If you were to use 3.7v of power with a standard atomizer that has a resistance level (ohm) of 2.2 your wattage output would be 6.22 watts, this is the amount of power that is being applied to the coil. Let's say you were to use a 5.0 V power source, with the same atomizer, the wattage would be 11.36 watts, almost twice as much as a 3.7 power source.
Another approach is the use of a lower resistance atomizer, usually rated around 1.5 ohm. a 3.7 power source would them produce a wattage of 9.12 This allows you to produce power that is close to a 5v power source without needing a new device or batteries. These are pretty easy to get and not very expensive, many suppliers offer these, including the Vapor Talk store.
In both of these examples, what we are effectively doing is increasing the power to the coil, elevating the heat of the coil to manipulate the vapor that is being produced.
A couple of notes: a LR atomizer will not work on the standard 510 battery as it does not have enough battery capacity for the output. Also a LR atomizer should not be used on a 5v power supply as it will overload the coil and break it, similar to a power surge on a light bulb.
I hope this is not too complicated but in essence, this is exactly what the power discussions are all about, end wattage. It can be easy to lose this principle as everyone talks about devicess, atomizers, batteries, passthroughs, etc. At the end of the day, the end wattage is what heats the coil and will produce more or less vapor/flavor.
Power is calculated through Joule's law. You can find an easy to use calculator here:
http://thelocust.net/ohm/
A wiki post with a good explanation is here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joule%27s_laws
One option that is available to you that was not to me a few months ago when I was starting was variable voltage devices. These allow you to adjust the end wattage through the use of a variable regulator. It can give you 3.7v up to 6V and everything in between. However, it does require batteries and sizes. I did a review of one of these that can be found here (includes size comparisons).
http://www.vaportalk.com/forum/forum/topic/6307-the-buzz-final-review-update/
The eGo is a tremendous device, one that I used and it works well with a LR atomizer. There is no shortage of eGo or eGo similar devices.
I strongly recommend that you read all the reviews and discussions you can before you buy. You may also want to stop into the video chat room where you will never find a shortage of people to discuss this with you.
I know there is a lot of info in this post and I hope it was helpful. I bought 6 devices until I found the one for me (and I am probably still not done... ) and I hope that this post will help you avoid having to go through the typical progression of devices that most go through to find out what is best for their needs.
Remember, evaluate what your needs are and what is important to you. Just because a device works well for me (or anyone else) does not ensure it is a good fit for you. Find out why people like the devices and match that up with your requirements. Good Luck.

Burn got a reaction from noXious in Super-T Juice Feeder
Not all that bad but certainly doesnt look all that portable. I have seen worse designs for feeders but I like this one alot better. When it is finished it will be same width as device. oh and it is automatic and tunable for more/less. Airflow triggers the release of the juice.
