I received the updated Joker - AV (adjustable voltage) a week and a half ago. I have been using it exclusively ever since. Vitals: Mod Name - The Joker-AV Vendor link - VaprLife: The Joker-AV Price - $99.00 for e-cig mod, $129.00 for Kit (see site for details) Batteries - 2 X cr123 size 3.7V or 3.0V Supported Atomizers - choice of 501 or 801 sitting Appearance: The Joker-AV is a long and slender tube style design. The diameter is just slightly larger than the CR123a battery type making for a nice fit for the batteries, there is not any battery shake with this mod. It is a little bit (approx 1/4") longer than most mods in this class (The Buzz, Silver Bullet, Omega) and also quite a bit lighter. When I opened the package, what I noticed first was that the mod was so light. I thought for sure the tube would be not be solid. I tried to squeeze the center of the tube with my fingers to see if it had any give as I expected aluminum to have (like an aluminum can) an it does not, I am still surprised by this. This aluminum tube must have been machined from a solid block and not die cast. As it is a tube, there is not a lot of creativity available in the design but the beveled top rising to the atty connector and the overall finish is very sleek and professional. The beveled cut does look good holding the atty connector but it should be noted that there is not any reservoir for atty spills/atty leaks and it will go right down the side. The voltage controller area is a silver band under the button and looks very good with black. there is a small hole to access the blade style screw head to adjust the voltage. The atty connector, which is at the top of the tube and not sunk into the tube so it is flush looks terrific when it is silver/nickel. When received, there was a very thin plating of gold that clashed with the silver. This plating wore off in a few days and now the entire look is black/silver and very sharp. The button is the customary ball in socket design that many of the Vaprlife products feature. The button is very responsive and while it is a mechanical and CAN go off accidentally in your pocket, the small button face makes this unlikely. the end cap is also silver with the joker logo and is vented for safety. This is a very comfortable unit to hold, looks great and while is too long for a shirt pocket, does fit well in a suit jacket and has been just fine carrying in loose fitting pants. Features: Safety has been a consistent feature set of VaprLife products and this model is another example of that standard. Saftey features include; short circuit protection, output limit protection, dropout protection, reverse polarity (battery) protection and even thermal protection has been built into the unit. The unit delivers regulated voltage to the atomizer. What this means is that the output voltage is fixed and less than the total battery output (6.0 or 7.4v combined battery voltage). This ensures consistent performance throughout the charge cycle of the battery. A non regulated battery will start out at a certain voltage and then begin to diminish over the charge cycle. Regulated devices will deliver the same performance until the battery runs out of charge. In addition, you can change the voltage of the device to a setting you prefer. The device ships at 5.0V and by using the supplied screwdriver you can lower and raise the voltage. This device can now be any voltage you prefer/require. It can be a standard volt (3.7/4.2v) or a high volt 6.0 or anything in between. The device has an activation LED that looks very good and is shaped like a diamond. This LED falls under features and not appearance because the LED is also a low battery indicator. It should be noted that the low battery indicator comes on by changing colors when the battery voltage goes below 5V. this is fine if you are using 3.0V batteries, because the 2 batteries will reach that low of a voltage. I did find that when using 3.7 V batteries, they shut off when the combined voltage hits 5.2 (Li-ion battery protection). From my tests with 4 sets of batteries, only the 3.0 volts turned the low indicator on and the 3.7 did not. Is this a big deal? No, not really to me. 3.7 volts are lasting almost twice as long as the 3.0 I have and the lack of indicator really doesn't bother me at all as I always have a second set of batteries charged and ready. I was concerned at first when the power ran out and the device seemed to stop working. Replacing the batteries got my joker back up and vaping. The performance is what I have come to expect from an AV device, very consistent and customizable. I have run standard atties from 4.2v to 5.0v, cartomizers at 4.5v and 6.0v and even used an adapter for some 901 styles at 5.5 volts. All performed very well and exactly as I expected. Variable voltage allows you to experience several different battery configurations in one device.

I actually found the opposite when I started direct dripping. The other issue is the wick. It is a plume of fiberglass under the bridge which is used as a wicking element for carts. That is often where a lot of the burned residue accumulates. I found this video a few months ago and since then I remove the bridge and the wick from the atty. Not only do I not get the burnt taste much at all but the attys have lasted me longer. You mentioned you had some that just tasted burnt, you may want to try this out on one of them. Many have stated (self included) that this made my "gross" attys usable again and vaping dynamos. I don't really care for the presenters style but the message is really good and it is not nearly as delicate as he would lead you to believe.

I love PS but this is not the first time their fulfillment sent the wrong item. I get different color atties almost every time I order from them. As a standard operating procedure (in the printing fulfillment industry at least), there should always be 2 people to check a fulfillment order, the PS invoices only indicate one signature. I love the company but they seem to make this mistake far too often.

yeah, ashes, forgot how bad those were. Smoke in my eye was another one that got me alot while driving. When I was in college, I was laying on my back, on a couch with my shirt off. I had the ashtray sitting on my belly/chest area. It was in college, so I was probably drunk or something and I was "tapping" my cig in the ashtray, repeatedly...until the cherry ember came off and rolled into my belly button.... My friend from school, who I talk to once a year, still wants to relive that story every time we talk. I certainly don't miss that!

You are certainly not alone with the Ruyan5. The TW boards are littered with "where is the flavor, this must be a bad batch" posts. I wouldn't describe e-cigs as replacements but more like alternatives, this relieves the pressure to quit. For me, Once I started e-cigs, I didn't need pyros so I didn't buy them. Shortly after, I didn't like the smell of them and have no desire to touch them again. It wasn't really intentional, just a natural evolution. Sadly, I was a big cigar lover, I still have a humidor full of terrific cigars that I can no longer enjoy. I lit one up doing yard work a couple of months ago and couldn't stand it. I was actually depressed about it because I enjoyed them so much at one time. In the end, it isn't that I wanted to quit as much as I like vaping FAR more. So, to answer your question, no I don't have any urges or desire for one but that was never my intent, it just happened when I was really getting into this "alternative".

In my experience DIY > Chinese import and by a wide margin. There are a few elite domestic juice makers; Vaperite is unbelievable, they use natural flavorings which I find to be far superior to DeKang. Freedom smokes USA and Ms T's are decent too although they use artificial flavorings. Although overpriced, for sure, Totally Wicked's Decadent Vapour range of pre mixed juices are VERY VERY good and they are UK made. (although $24 for 30 ML is a decent price for this excellent juice http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.com/products/totally-wicked-e-liquid/totally-wickeds-decadent-vapour-2-product.html) Not to be a contrarian but I have found that there is very little Chinese liquid that I like, only VT Mentha, Dulcis and Cappucino were good to me. That is why I started DIY with natural based flavorings and I think it is far superior to DeKang. There are plenty of crappy US makers, in my opinion (Hello Johnson Creek). In summary, I know Chinese liquids are popular and acceptable by most, I dont like it very much and have found there are some nice gems in the U.S. but for my money, DIY is the cheapest, most rewarding and ultimately best quality juice you can get.

In my personal experience and what I have heard about puresmoker, they are one of the oldest and most reputable suppliers. I buy all of my atties from them. They don't advertise quantity discounts but it is built into the site. I think they are a very dependable supplier and looking at the kit, I would be shocked if it was not genuine but it does appear, as Joe said, to be sold out.

Its that time of year where all the sports nerds start preparing for the Fantasy Football Season. I am wondering if there is enough interest for a VT league? We could have a no or small fee, run a standard yahoo FF site. Perhaps a few suppliers may be willing to toss in a goody basket as a prize. (Maybe a league sponsor where the teams are named after their products?) For all I know, I may be the only one who plays FF. There are 15 million people who play in these leagues, there has to be 9 others on V|T....right? Post if you are interested.

Neither of these read as if they are bans. NH suggests regulation the same as tobacco cigs, not a ban. (and regulation is not a bad thing for e-cigs, in my opininon) the NY session is about banning the sales of e=cigs to minors, not the banning of e-cigs. Once again, I don't think this is a bad thing at all and I surely wouldn't protest a ban on e-cigs for minors. They should not be sold to minors. How about a ban on mall Kiosks? I would fly up there for that.

my take: Although many of us believe that vaping is quite safe, it has never definitively been proven one way or the other. Even if there is a .01% chance of harm, that is far too great to expose to my family. I don't go outside but I do go to another room. Imagine my horror when my 3 year old, who love star wars already (from his cousin) saw me on a VP/PT and was excited over my "light saber"

This could be a pretty amusing thread. One thing (of many) that I don't miss about smoking is: having cigarettes but not able to find a lighter or matches.

I bought my original 510 kit from them and it was good service. Their catalog did not have many things that I wanted/needed so I rarely go back but my experience was positive. Looking back at my email trail, the order shipped from their facility in 24 hours and the price was the best I found at that time. Good store, rather basic catalog.

I really think regulation would be the best possible thing to happen to the industry. While many people resist government involvement consider this: 1) Regulation would end the movement to ban the devices 2) Quality standards would be set up and installed 3) Scams and overpriced devices would be removed/reduced from the market 4) A real, exhaustive study of the devices could finally be performed 5) Commercial and wide public acceptance would also be possible Most notably the reduction of bans and high quality standards would be the most attractive benefits. Yes, this would come as a price but I think this ultimately would be similar to the pharmaceutical industry where low cost alternatives would be available while assurance of safety and availability of the product would be provided.

I use them sporadically so the answer in time is anywhere from a couple days to a few weeks. I typically can get 7-10 ML through them before I toss them. I dont have much attachment to them or their cost so they go out to the curb on Mondays and Thursdays.

I stand corrected, Brian, sorry about that I didnt mean to type Tenergy, the batts in the kit are the batteries I was referring to and no, they are not on the list either. This is just a list I found with a few different rcr123 suppliers, thought it was interesting.

Personally, I prefer the Ultrafire 880 MAH 3.7 v vs. the Tenergy lifepo 400 mah as the Ultrafires last quite a bit longer (I have both) Apparantly, the best of them all are Spiderfires 1000mah that I can find on ebay pretty inexpensive but do ship from China. Remember, even if mah should be a reliable metric for batteries, manufacturers often lie about MAH like women lie about their age or men lie about their income.... =) I find user created reports/tests are far more reliable, like the one I have linked below. I like TW stuff as much, most likely more, than most people and I am totally a mark for Decadent Vapour products (which Platinum Ice is) but even during their best sale fo the year (early december anniversary sale) their prices are still higher than my freedom smokes, which I believe is every bit as good. With that being said, you can never have too many Decadent Vapour flavorings! =)

I cant find an article I read about this a few months ago. If I recall correctly, the issue is with the sensor that measures current voltage. I believe the correction was that you ran it all the way down (which it really isnt, charge it for 10 minutes so it will turn on again and then drain that down as far as you can. Apparently this "calibrates" the chip that controls the low voltage. Someone may come along with a stronger recollection that I have but I know I have read about this before regarding the ego.

Not that I am saying you are entirely incorrect, because I agree to some extent. However, generic medicine is an irrelevant example because the manufacturing and disclosure of production is heavily regulated, they all HAVE to be made the same. Atties do not have any standard that they must meet and no penalties, other than consumer trust if they put out a bad product, cut a corner or have lax QA procedures, if any at all. QA may differ amongst brands of atomizers but there really is not any way to evaluate a quality metric, today. I stopped fussing with Atomizers and my constant need to clean them, I was becoming quite OC about them. I tried just about every method mentioned on this forum. What I have settled on is this: I rotate 2-3 atties, only use one per day (not dedicated to flavors). At the end of each day, I put 10 - 20 drops straight PG into the atty and blow it through the battery connector to remove most of the juice from the day. I then store them upside down (batt end up) for a day or two to drain until it comes up in rotation. No boiling, chemicals or dry burn. This has been working very well for a couple months now and the flavor, performance and resistance (measured weekly) has not changed...yet. Also of note, I run these on either a 5v passthrough or an variable amp regulated device set at either 4.35 or 4.5 volts. Finally, I do remove the bridge and wick from every atty when I first use it. I run a wide variety of juices but 90% are DIY, I dont use any oil based flavors and almost all of my flavoring is derived from natural sources (no artificial flavoring like Loranns, Capellas, Flavourart, et al.), I am not suggesting that artifical flavorings cause issues, just qualifying that I do not use them, for personal taste reasons. So far, they have lasted very well. Boiling was inconsistent for me, I stopped with that. The only method that I did like was using the steam from an espresso machine and I dont even do that now since I started my "flush and drain" routine.
