  1. While NPR/PBS tends to be more objective and less hysterical than the rest of the broadcast media this particular report still helps spread false claims and gives the biggest attention to an obvious opponent of e-cigs who merely states biased agenda driven opinion rather than fact while never being directly challenged or refuted. Personally I had no intention of quitting cigarettes altogether when I started vaping. Vaping was intended to be a substitute while I was at work. Within a week I no longer wanted to smoke cigarettes despite my original intentions and despite the comparatively primitive e-cig tech available at the time. I can think of no example of a person young or old that continues to smoke and vape unless they're new to vaping and still in transition. Unfortunately, as has become the norm in this country, government agencies will not act with even handed logic and reason when it comes to e-cig regulation. Our government gives every evidence of being corrupt and broken in just about any area they can wriggle their way into. Why should e-cig regulation be any different?
  2. If you're using a Protank make sure the coil assemblies you're using are genuine Kanger. Just like some other popular delivery devices there are generic versions of the coil assemblies all over the place generally at a little bit cheaper price. If you're using a vw device in vw mode to fire the Protank most if not all of these devices will automatically adjust the voltage to match any changes in the resistance of the coil. In vv mode that doesn't happen. But if someone's using a garbage generic coil then nothing's going to fix it short of re-coiling/re-wicking it. That opens up a whole lot of potential issues until you get good at it. Higher percentages of vg in your juice will tend to restrict wicking of the juice leading to dry and/or burnt tasting hits. The higher percentage vg, the worse the juice will tend to wick. If you are using genuine Kanger coils in your Protank with a decent apv using the same juice you've been using for while and still can't get it dialed in then I don't have a clue.
  3. One of the big deals about glass is that it doesn't react to certain liquids like plastic does. Some juice mixes will react with, degrade and melt plastic. Also, better glass devices are less prone to impact damage than plastic. It's not just hype.
  4. Never heard of them. Devices such as these are virtually guaranteed to be garbage. Typically people buy something like this and toss it in short order and search for something better. My advice is to save yourself the time, money and disappointment. There are much, much better choices for introductory hardware for new vapers.
  5. It's great when things work out like you hoped they would.
  6. You might be happy with an eVic although I can't say it's the most drop proof device available. I haven't kept track of this whole thread but fwiw my eVic has been my favorite device for 10 months. It's adjustable either in VV or VW mode by .1 increments vs the .5 unit increments of the Vamo or Zmax. With the exception of the V1 problem with head separation (fixed) mine has been trouble free and has been my most used device by far since I first bought it last December. But if you want something as close as possible to bullet proof in terms of a long track record of indestructibility backed by an excellent warranty you might want to invest in a Provari. IMO there are other devices that offer more features but in terms of durability the Provari shines. The Provari is not my personal first choice in devices but might be a good choice for you because of the durability and warranty. Obviously the people who own them must love them for a reason.
  7. I got my Semovar today and have been using it for about an hour or so. I'm very impressed so far with both the performance and build quality. The difference in voltage modulation is apparent via the Nivel chip vs. the eVic, Sigelei Zmax, Vamo that I have. I'm still dialing in the sweet spot wattage wise as the voltage modulation is finer grained and smoother which for me translates into a slightly higher wattage setting than I've grown accustomed to on my other devices. I'll do an actual review in a few days. FWIW here's a link to the English documentation in pdf form. It's at the bottom of the page: http://svoemesto-manual.de/
  8. I think a lot of vape lore that warns against using iso alcohol for cleaning came about when people were trying to clean and reuse filler cartos. In that case it was believed the filler would retain small amounts of the iso that would then be vaped. I got used to using vodka for cleaning stuff back then but probably wouldn't worry too much now using iso for kpt coils provided I then rinsed them with water afterwards.
  9. On a related note there were two local news segments here tonight on two different stations. One was slightly more positive than the other but they both came off as fairly positive. Of course they have to play up anything negative so they can keep the infotainment hype going. We all know (or should) there's no such thing as real news on tv anymore.
  10. Best advice. In my case I was only looking for something that would get me through the work day without smoking. In a week I decided to quit cigarettes altogether. I vaped like crazy but the cigarette craving passed in a couple of weeks. All this after almost 40 years of smoking. Everybody's different but you will eventually get over the craving.
  11. Tell me where I stated that. I don't care if it's a clone or a totally new device.
  12. Good article. Going to spread that one around.
  13. You're right. I thought it was still selectable.
  14. Your Vamo may not be set for RMS mode for voltage modulation ans instead is set for Mean. RMS is a more smooth voltage delivery mode (whether you're using VV or VW doesn't matter). This often confuses folks who get really burnt vapes out of their device. Clipped from the instructions: The VAMO can operate either in Voltage Mode or Power Mode. We find that Power Mode is generally easier for users that switch between different cartomizers and atomizers at different resistances as the VAMO will adjust for that resistance and deliver consistent power to the device. To set the mode, hold the + and the - buttons down simultaneously for about 2 seconds. The display will either say 3.0 v (for voltage) or 3.0 w (for power). If the setting that is displayed, is not the one you want, then hold the two buttons down again and the mode will be changed. You can now use the + and - buttons to adjust the voltage or the power as described above. The VAMO can determine output voltage and wattage as an Average or as RMS (Root Mean Square). RMS is the actual and true output and is the one to use. Press and hold the + button for 10 secs. If "no2" is shown then the output is already set to RMS, no further action is required. If no1 is shown, release the button and press again for 10 secs until the display shows no2. This setting should not change after a new battery is inserted but if the vape feels hotter than expected you should re-check this setting. - See more at: http://www.tropicalvapors.com/VAMO-V2-Variable-Voltage-Variable-Power--Advanced-Personal-Vaporizer_p_105.html#sthash.pOL8O6bg.dpuf
  15. Yeah, I don't think I'll be getting one those anytime soon.
  16. I've been waiting quite some time for Provape to update the feature set of their high quality device but it appears that they're content to let the Provari achieve high quality dinosaur status. So I just pulled the trigger on a SvoeMesto Semovar SM V3 http://shop.vaperev.com/devices/semovar-mod.html from Vaperev. Can't wait.
  17. Are your replacement coils genuine Kanger or generic? From my experience generic replacement coils for delivery devices are most often crap.
  18. I bought an Ovale eVic V1 when they first came out last December. It is my favorite apv as opposed to a Sigelei Zmax and a recently acquired Vamo. Those are just the devices I currently use. The V1's all had an issue with control head separation from the body of the device but I fixed mine permanently with epoxy. The units sold today don't have that issue unless they're very old stock. The Vamo is also a good device but doesn't have all of the features of the eVic. One of those features that I find to be important is the more finely grained adjustability of the voltage or wattage. You can adjust the device in .1 increments vs .5 increments with most other VV/VW devices. It makes dialing into the really sweet spot possible. The Vamo +/- buttons also make it really easy to accidentally change settings without realizing it. I still like my Vamo but it's not as versatile as my eVic. As for fragility - I'm not in the habit of slamming any electronic device around so while other devices might be arguably more sturdy that is not an issue for me. If you intend to haul it around on a construction site then ymmv.
  19. I got a Vamo a couple of weeks ago and am happy with it for the price. My only gripe is the ease with which you can make accidental changes to volt/watt setting by accidentally hitting one of the + or - buttons. Aside from that it works great and seems well constructed. For what it does it's hard to argue with the price.
  20. Please provide manufacturer links to substantiate. I'm sorry if you feel I come off snippy but misinformation only serves to heighten misplaced hysteria. I first became involved in electronics about 50 years ago when I was a kid. As someone else posted, the AC adapter is comprised of transformer circuitry to step the voltage down and a rectifier circuit to convert alternating current to direct current. It is the charger circuity that provides any level of protection and that circuitry is in the charger, not the AC adapter. You mentioned that you now only sell high quality charging equipment. You might want to re-read my original post.
  21. It never ends. At least it hasn't for me. At least I've started diy'ing juice. But just when I think I'm all set with hardware the next greatest thing comes along. Now I want a Semovar mod.
  22. And how do you know this to be true? All USB chargers for all devices or just some? Source?
  23. USB ports supply power, period. If you attempt to charge any sketchy cheapo battery via USB or AC adapter you're rolling the dice with a battery vent. I do electrical safety for a living and have charged ecig and other batteries via computer USB ports for years without issue or worry.
  24. Cool stuff. History kind of talks to me through old firearms - imagining the men who crafted them and those that carried them.
