  1. Good points all around, but I'm still a skeptic of those LiFePo4 batteries. After all, that's what Robert was using when his Detonator blew up in his pants and burned his leg. I'm not saying the chemistry itself is bad, but rather the labeling and marketing of those batteries. I definitely do believe in this chemistry (specifically the nano-phosphates), but I just don't trust greedy manufacturers and their labeling. Afterall, how are you and I as consumers supposed to tell the difference between them unless they're labeled? Sorry, I don't mean to sound like a pessimist. But I'm a strong believer in PCB-protected batteries; safe chemistry or not. Many many years ago I worked in a tire manufacturing plant when lithium chemistries (specifically the phosphates that we're interested in) were just hitting the big commercial markets for portable electronic devices. In my very short time in that plant, I heard of 2 instances of batteries exploding in mobile test equipment used to monitor some of the big machinery out there. I will play devil's advocate against myself and say that there were more lead acid battery explosions in the battery room where we charged and maintained packs for forklifts and tuggers; but those lithium phosphates were supposed to be fail-safe. The protected 14500s are a proven winner all around. But I think part of the problem as to why they're not widely used in multi-battery mods is because of their size. Put 2 of them end-to-end in a line, and you'll see what I mean. Though the 14500 form-factor itself is specified to be compatible with the AA battery form factor, the protected versions are actually longer and I have yet to see a spec sheet that says they must conform. A mod using 2 of these stacked together will be much longer than what the average person is used to seeing and holding. However, using a shorter but wider (fatter) form factor battery appears smaller to the eye and possibly more comfortable to the hand. Something you can covertly palm in your hand is more attractive to most folks (despite the girth) than something that is thinner but much taller. Did your elementary school teacher ever trick you with the "short-but wide-glass VS tall-but-skinny-glass" optical illusion? Mine did, and I fell for it. Heck, I'd probably still fall for it even today. I think that's where 90% of the decision to use CR123 batteries comes from in mods.
  2. Yeah that's right, this is my 100th post! I realize of course (in the words of a certain Vulcan from a certain episode of Star Trek:Deep Space Nine) that this is a "manufactured victory". But I'll take it! I've joined very few forums over the years (honestly, because 90% of my daily communication for my job takes place via chat, and at the end of the day I lack the stamina to keep up with a forum). And I have made it to the big one-zero-zero even fewer times because eventually I'd loose interest or just otherwise loose the will to continue. So thank you VaporTalk and all of the wonderful members here for opening your arms to such newbies as myself!
  3. Ya dang right. I just need to find a way to have firefox automatically refresh that tab every 15 minutes. Hmmmmm.....
  4. Yup. Or try this. It's much more masculine:
  5. Yeah I think my dad may have told me that once If the double barrel design works and is easy to use, I'd have no problems using it at home all day. Going out to town..... well... I'd probably stick with my Joye510 or my BB. We'll see!
  6. I'm late getting this posted, but I decided to take my time with it and try these juices intermittently over the course of several days due to them being totally *not* what I expected. Just a heads up: if you don't already have a glass dropper or pipette be sure to add one to your order if you ever buy some Essence juices. They come in attractive glass bottles, but only with a screw-on lid, and no dropper. So we tried the USA mix (an emulation of Marlboro I assume), Camel, and Cigar 1 (vanilla cigar). My wife took the USA mix with her for a solid day and had pretty good results. However, using it for a full second day irritated her throat and lungs and she got very congested. So the search is still on for a juice that she can handle on a daily basis. Now to the flavor! Obviously all 3 are tobacco-based flavors, but I honestly wasn't expecting such a similarity between them all. The base tobacco flavor is a kind of herbal, peppery, dry flavor that's a bit hard to describe. You know how certain smells and tastes instantly trigger a distant memory or feeling? I was immediately taken back to the old days when I was a kid helping my grandfather bail and stack hay on his 150 acre ranch. Stacking hay in his 2000sq/ft hay barn down in the pecan tree meadow right above the creek. I'm serious, it was like I was instantly transported back in time... That sticky, sweet, herbal, hay smell. Seeing dust and pollen floating around in the rays of sunshine coming through the rusted out nail holes in the roof. I fell off the roof of that 2 story monster once as a kid when we were clearing off all the leaves to lay new sheet metal. Fortunately I fell onto a huge springy pile of scrap bailing wire, so I only had a couple bruises instead of a couple of broken bones.... Back to the review! For those of you that haven't had the pleasure of bailing and stacking hay, think of those herbal teas. Not real tea, but the herbal blends. The taste is kind of what those smell like. Okay, so there's the base tobacco that's present in all of these flavors. The USA mix is actually a bit toned down in that department, and has a sweeter texture to it. The Camel is very strong with just the slightest hint of your stereotypical camel-sourness. And the Cigar 1 is a very heavy and pungent tobacco taste with the slightest hint of artificial vanilla. If you've ever tried a generic chinese vanilla juice, the sweet twang is similar to that (sweet, but with a little peppery bite to it for some reason). I really thought I had screwed up somehow since they all taste so similar. So I completely cleaned out 3 separate attys with vinegar and water overnight and tried each one separately over the course of a few days. But that base tobacco flavor was still there, and all 3 flavors still tasted like variations on a main theme. There's nothing wrong with this since they're all tobacco based flavors (similarity is to be expected). But it was just a little surprising. These flavors definitely stick around in the corners of your mouth and in your atty. And that herbal-peppery twang adds a nice sensation in your mouth and in the back of your throat. Do I like them? Unfortunately no. Do I recommend them? Definitely yes. If you're looking for a different and unusual high quality american made juice then the Essence line is for you. I wish I liked the flavors (my wife does, even though she can't vape them for an extended period) but I'm still glad I tried them, and feel better for the experience.
  7. I can't speak with personal experience as I don't have one, (Dave can) but since the impedance is much less than standard attys (it's 1.5ohms) you're looking at about a 50-70% increase in power consumption. So yes, it would deplete your battery faster. Dave have you noticed much difference in your battery life with your magnum?
  8. Low resistance Magnum 510 attys are on NHaler's website now, separate from having to buy the full magnum kit or the Woody. But at the time of this post, they're out of stock (most likely due to giving/selling so many of them at VaperFest). Magnum Atty: http://shop.nhaler.com/product.sc?productId=107&categoryId=-1 Plastic dripping tip cart also on NHaler's website, and at the time of this post they are available in stock for 510/901 (lots of them also given away at VaperFest, but apparently not *too* many). D-Tips: http://shop.nhaler.com/product.sc?productId=106&categoryId=34 Obviously I didn't go to VaperFest but I listened to the whole 2hr VaporCast about it last night, and apparently Drew was handing these out left and right. Too bad he didn't save some magnums for the rest of us As soon as the magnums are in stock, I'll be buying a few of them and also the D-Tips.
  9. I think that's a good segway into a related topic which may or may not belong in this thread: high volt vaping VS low volt doulbe-atty vaping. It's something I've been thinking about so much lately that I spent about $50 worth on DIY mod parts from Madvapes yesterday to make a number of battery box mods (I have you all to thank for this BTW; seeing some of your box mods in the mod threads; yes thanks for making me dig into my wallet yet again). I've not yet experienced high voltage vaping, but have heard it can burn some flavors and the vapor is a little warm. I think one thing I love about vaping is that the vapor is cool and refreshing instead of warm and scratchy like analog smoke. Anyway, I thought I'd try my hand at making a double barrel low voltage mod; getting the high voltage vapor production but the low voltage flavor and coolness. Anybody here tried a double barrel mod before? BTW Dave, did I miss your review of the woody?
  10. One of those things you hope you never have to use. But geez, would I really remember where it was and to use it? For me personally, I really think I'd panic and just loose all sense of reality. I saw that mythbusters episode, and Adam kinda panicked even though he knew he was 100% safe and had the backup crew. Maybe I'm just too much of a nervous and panicky guy Rock on with your windows down Uma!
  11. Sounds like you've had some problems there, and I sympathize. But joining a forum just to make one flaming post. That's not good either.
  12. Fantastic! Thanks Scott! Can't wait to check it out.
  13. What a fantastic adventure.... and just to go to/from town!
  14. Beautiful country there. But ummmmm.... dang that bridge.... Ya'll get a lot of rain?
  15. Yes, this is mentioned in the Health Effects section I believe. I'm still new to vaping too, but haven't experienced any of those side effects (yet). FTJoe's advice is very sound in regards to waiting a week. I have a slight PG allergy, so I quickly switched to VG (mainly prompted by my wife's severe allergy to it) and I'm much happier on VG too. If you have some extra cash to spare, you may give that a shot. There are plenty of good VG liquid vendors around, and it didn't take me long to find my favorite. Beyond that the only other thing i could think of is the actual cart (the mouthpiece specifically). I don't think it's mentioned much, but I know personally I don't practice good hygene with my cart. I mean honestly, it's in and out of my mouth all the time and I don't clean it regularly. Sure, I throw them away and replace with a new one about every 4-5 days (even though I drip and don't actually use the polyfill) because I bought so many when i first started. But I need to find or come up with a good cleaning regime for mine. I don't want to hijack your thread, so if anyone has some useful suggestions in this regard feel free to PM me or post here whichever you prefer.
  16. Rock on Gweetus, that's a good story. Yeah I think PVs or nicotine juice is banned in Canada. Perhaps someone else can confirm that. LOL! Way too funny
  17. Thanks for the link Brian. I should have known it would be Damulta, he's always got the latest stuff. I kinda like how he reviews stuff, b/c he's certainly not careful with things See how he was kind of tossing it around and fumbling with it? I'm OCD careful with all my toys, so it's good to see reviews of folks actually putting devices through their paces... I don't know, it just caught me funny for some reason. And holy crap, I've *got* to have one of those atomizers! Did you see all that vapor and how quickly it churned out?!?! Daaaaaannnnggg...... gotta... have it.... Dave, looking forward to those pics. Same here Mark!
  18. OMG this is so sweet. Thanks for the review Dave. Also can't wait to see your review of the woodimus. Any chance to see some pics of it in your hand? I'm having a hard time coming to grips with the size. Great news about that atty. It's really exciting, and if they are available through other vendors in the future as well, it could bridge the gap for folks not wanting to take the plunge into multi-battery mods, or just otherwise unsure of where to start (myself included).
  19. <- Anxiously awaiting.
  20. Now THAT would be freaking sweet! Hmmm... Makes me wonder what the first and second place would be
  21. Freaking sweet! 30mins flight time is dang good compared to *real* jetpacks, where you're looking at 30-60 seconds flight time; literally. For some reason the 'flight demonstration' video kept locking up exactly half way through every time, so I didn't get to see a lot there. Though the 'flight preparation' vid plays well all the way through. Did the guy ever get any real altitude? I can understand not wanting to go very high due to the familiar equation *increase in altitude = increase in pain*. But flying so low to the ground is counterproductive in regards to maintaining steady control. The closer you are to the ground, the more turbulance. Ever flown an RC helicopter just a foot or two above the ground? It's the same thing. I'd love to see some vids of the guy soaring over trees and rooftops Good find Brian!
  22. You're correct, there really aren't many in the Essence line. The other flavors came in this morning and I've tested them all out. The wife's away on a family outing this afternoon, and I loaded her up with a full cart, a 3mil bottle of USA mix, and 2 spare batteries. When she tried it this morning (about 11am) she had *zero* problems vaping it and was very excited! She left about noon-thirty and within that 1 1/2hr time frame, she was near constant vaping the stuff. I'll report back with a more detailed review this evening when she returns (probably in this same thread).
  23. Rock and Roll JamBone, very nice for a first mod! I see you're interested in pumping juice. I've heard about this in regards to Carlos' Juice Box Mod, but never really found construction details. Honestly I don't even really understand the concept of how it works. I'm really keen to hear how you go about doing this once you get the rest of your parts. Can you keep us updated on that? At this point I can't even imagine how nice it would be to *not* have to refill or re-drip all the time. So I'm totally intrigued with this!
  24. Brian I've got some additional flavors in the mail now from the essence line (hopefully arrive to me tomorrow?), so I'll let you know how they work for my wifey.
  25. Ahh!!! lol Very nice. Yeah Dr J, can't wait to hear your impressions on it. If it works well for you and seems of a decent build quality, this could be a good price point for those folks who are interested in mods, but don't want to fork over the cash for $100+ super quality american made versions. Could be a gateway to enter the wide world of modding.
