SmokinHammer got a reaction from Jeffb in Was It A Test?
Yeah, I really like what this is morphing in to. I'll never forget when my ex-wife told me that, as a parent, you have to pick your battles. I looked her dead in the eye and said that, when you become a parent, you're agreeing to take on all of the battles. My daughter knows that, I'm my mind, she's free to make any decision she wants. She knows I love her unconditionally. She comes to me for guidance, and I tell her what I feel. If she came to me and said she'd started smoking, I'd tell her that was a horrible decision, and that I thought she should quit before the addiction really got a hold of her. If she came back the next week to proudly announce that she'd switched to vaping, I'd tell her that was a horrible decision, and that I thought she should quit before the addiction really got a hold of her. When she got caught smoking pot, I didn't think, "Well, that's better than cocaine." We had a talk and she said she would stop. Do I think she's smoked pot since then... no. Do I know for sure... no. Did I do everything I could... no. But I'm comfortable thinking that I did everything I should.

SmokinHammer got a reaction from ddavelarsen in Headaches With 24Mg?
Hardwired, while you're waiting for the new juice, you could go to the pharmacy, or a place that sells baking supplies like a wally-mart, and try to find some VG to add on your own. Look for stuff that says usg 99% glycerin. (Grab an eyedropper if the bottle doesn't have a drip cap!) Obviously, mixing equal parts with your 24mg juice will give you 12mg strength. You'll lose some flavor, but you'll have something to vape and you can see if the headaches go away. Good luck and welcome to Vapor Talk!

SmokinHammer got a reaction from Schizophretard in Uk E-Cig Appeal
The UK government has a petition system by which their citizens can make their voices heard, but this does not leave the rest of us completely out of this battle.
PLEASE GO TO THIS LINK and take a few minutes to give your opinion. This is a public consultation on the topic, and no where, at least that I can find, does it say anything about having to be a citizen of the UK. You'll be able to clink on a link to a PDF that contains the proposal, or click on "Response form for MLX 364" to enter your name, email, address, and write (or paste) your opinion. There's just a couple of other boxes to click, and that's that. PLEASE Everybody take the time to do this. Every piece of legislation like this that gets passed in any country will be cited by the FDA as some sort of global precedent.
As an example, here's my message, please feel free to use any or all of it if you just don't have time to write your own. I do encourage everyone to tell their own story, politely, and succinctly.
To whom it may concern,
I am writing as a member of the growing global community of people who use electronic cigarettes. I began using a personal vaporizer on 27 November, 2009 and stopped using tobacco cigarettes four days later. I had smoked at least a pack of cigarettes a day for the previous 18 years. I had quit smoking numerous times by using nicotine gum and lozenges, but had always gone back to tobacco cigarettes. I began using electronic cigarettes, hoping to find a safer, more economical way to use nicotine, without constantly sucking in the terrible tar, chemicals and carcinogens found in tobacco smoke.
I must say that I was amazed by the electronic cigarette. After just a few days, I stopped using tobacco completely. My breathing got deeper, as my “smokers cough” went away. I have no urge to smoke tobacco, at all. My concern is over possible legislation, banning or severely regulating the liquid that electronic cigarette users vaporize in their devices. I know that, in my situation, a ban such as this would send me back into the world of tobacco use. I always enjoyed smoking, and now enjoy “vaping.” I consider it a much safer alternative. My nicotine addiction is not going away, and I don’t want it to. I understand the health risks associated with nicotine, and I am not so foolish as to think that there is absolutely no harm or risk involved with vaporizing a flavored, nicotine liquid, and sucking it into my lungs. I do believe the dangers involved in e-cig use are infinitesimal compared to the use of tobacco cigarettes.
I would just like to state my personal opinion, that any body, enacting legislation that would completely ban the liquid used in electronic cigarettes, knowing full well that tobacco cigarettes are legal to purchase virtually everywhere on the planet, is doing more to endanger the health of the general populace, than protect it.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my opinion.

SmokinHammer got a reaction from Mark in Study: E-Cigarettes No Better Than Puffing On Unlit Cigarette.
I didn't post anything when I first read his article the other day, but upon seeing that he's changing his tune and listening a little, decided to post this tonight. A bunch of stuff sort of poured out that I haven't brought up since I started vaping, and it was actually pretty cool to take a little look back after a couple months, and think about how my life has changed.
Well Mike, I have to apologize. I called you a hack on VaporTalk.com after reading your original article (sorry) and now you seem to be a pretty fair and reasonable guy. I am glad to see you admit that you should have done more research. It takes a big person to admit they made a mistake. I started vaping around Thanksgiving and haven't had an analog (tobacco cigarette) since November 30.
I think the thing you really need to focus on now, being a non-smoker, is how passionate and excited the smoking community is about e-cigs. We have been enduring mounting public scorn for many years. I have experienced mothers, hiding their child's face from me as I walked down the street smoking. I was asked to move in a theater, because a lady complained about the smell of my jacket. I have been routinely turned from a common filthy smoker, into a lowly litterbug by institutions who won't even pay to put an ashtray near the entrance of their building. And equally often, embarrassed myself and my non-smoking wife by carrying a stubbed out butt inside to ask where a garbage can is. (Honestly, I tried not to just throw my butts anywhere.)
Many of us now see e-cigarettes as a way to replace something that even we readily admit is a filthy habit, with something not nearly as dangerous for us, and no where near as offensive to others. We just want to maintain our little nicotine habit and not bother anyone, and in return, not be bothered. We'll live with the risks associated with the nicotine, and whatever else. I think I speak for many an ex-smoker, when I say, a little diethylene glycol? Jeez, Mike, I used to put a paper cylinder full of tobacco in my mouth, LIGHT IT ON FIRE, and suck the smoke into my lungs! I'm happy I found vaping, and I'm glad you're taking the time to learn something about it.
Thanks
John

SmokinHammer got a reaction from Brian in Should I Get A Spade, Or The Ego
Hi Soupninja, here's my $0.02. First, I've spent plenty of money (over $400) in the last six weeks, on e-cigs. I'm now putting a lot more thought into my purchases, based on my experiences. I was very interested when the eGo came out. Then I realized that the eGo battery is, basically, a bigger version of a 510 battery. I.E. it is a sealed unit with the switch built in. When it goes, you chuck the whole thing in the battery recycle bin at the store and buy a new one. As of right now, I don't believe any site (Janty or otherwise) has a spare battery listed, or even a mention of what they'll cost. That scares me. You've already learned a very important thing, batteries will die. That's why, for now, I'm sticking with my Spade. The battery housing is very well made, and uses an inexpensive 10440 protected li-ion cell. Christopher sells them for $7, and they're also available at places like Battery Junction where they're on sale now for $4. At that price you could buy a three for the price of a standard 510 batt. I know that the Spade will eventually wear out. But right now, it's my favorite, and I'm thinking of buying another, when my 510 batts start to go. Good luck!
BTW, do keep in mind that, If you decide you have to have an ego, Totally Wicked is releasing their version, in two other colors. They say it'll be available on the 21st. They're calling it the Tornado.

SmokinHammer reacted to SmokinHammer in How Much Do Analogs Cost Where You Live?
Forgive me if this has been done before, but I searched and searched and couldn't find anything like it.
Here in Milwaukee, I'd have to choose #3. Cost wasn't even a factor in my switch to vaping, but it is getting a bit ridiculous in some places. At my favorite bar, the machine takes $10 cash American! (Our smoking ban doesn't go into effect until next summer) I hate to judge, but I've honestly looked at some people and wondered how they can afford to smoke!

SmokinHammer reacted to SmokinHammer in 501 Does Not Seem Reliable
I had a few "issues" with my new 510 batteries after a few days, but I think I created the problem myself. I think I was charging too often, and, when I started vaping until the led flashed, and then putting them back on the charger for at least two hours, those "issues" went away. Also, if its a new kit, and both batteries are being weird, I'd try a different charger.
I'd also like to point out that, no matter how reputable your supplier is, if a product (any product) says its battery will last for eight hours, you can hope for four, as long as you expect two.
