Are Electronic Cigarettes Really Safe?
SmokinHammer replied to schecterc1h's topic in General Vaping Discussion
What continues to grind on me to no end is that, with all of increased taxes and bans on smoking analogs, there is no sign that tobacco cigarettes will be illegal anytime soon. The FDA (or F-Dup Administration) is apparently of the opinion that we should all smoke tobacco cigarettes, because e-cigs are dangerous. It makes my head hurt every time I think about it. -
I don't understand why you would return your 510. You've posted that your initial battery charge lasted "only" an hour and a half, and that the atomizer gets hot. How much research did you do before you got the 510? Your batteries will hit their stride after a few cycles, although 1 1/2 or 2 hours is perfectly normal for a 510 battery. Have you tried using a stronger juice so you get more nicotine with less vaping? (Your atty wouldn't heat up as much.) Also, what will you do when your VP2 breaks, or you misplace it, or accidentally drop it in the toilet. I agree with Dave and some of the others here. You bought a 510, and it does what a 510 is supposed to do. Keep it, buy more, and be patient.

Mcquinn, while I agree with the general idea you've put out here, I'd have to say that I'd rather hear the truth and be able to make my own decision, than get some BS story. I'm just sayin', if you tell me it's crap and I buy it anyway, it's my fault.

The "best" way of doing anything will always bring about a debate. Leaving your atomizer standing on a paper towel overnight so the juice can drain away from the wick is just good daily maintenance. Some like to run some water through, and I know some use a jewelery cleaner using only water. (See HERE and HERE. You can also boil your attys. I've done this and it works very well. I get a pot of water rolling, and then lower the attys in using a sieve. You don't want them to come int direct contact with the bottom of the pan. I leave them in for 10 minutes, let them cool enough so that i cam blow out any standing water, and let them dry for a day. I've also soaked attys in Everclear (190 proof grain alcohol) for anywhere between 5 minutes and overnight. Again, blowing them out and letting them dry for 24 hrs. Both of these methods have worked well for me. Just be sure to drip some juice in and get them good and wet when you start using them again. I like to use straight VG in a newly cleaned atty. Two drops, a couple puffs, two more drops, a few puffs, and then they're good to go.

Wow. Very impressive. That must have taken a heck of a lot of preparation!

Nice. Are you going to add the cost to your "investment?" :P

I Have Officially Had My Wife Switch To Vaping!
SmokinHammer replied to stubear62's topic in General Vaping Discussion
That's awesome Stu! If you want to make some of that money back, sell her your Little Chuck! (sorry, I had to) -
Awesome! I've vaped in the pharmacy, and at the doctor's office, but I can't wait to sneak a puff or two when my wife and I jump on a plane and head to the Gulf Shores in February!
-
So, Lord Vapor, I shared your experience with my wife... all I got was a funny look. What am I doing wrong?
-
Good luck with everything! You and Holly are in my prayers.

Thank you so much for posting this, jmhester. After going to The Medical News site and searching for "electronic cigarette," I found the article refered to in the biased and misleading blog from Smoke Free Wisconsin that was on the USA Today site. I once again emailed Smoke Free Wisconsin, hoping to have a discussion with them on the subject. We'll see if they respond to me any time soon.

City Smokers Begin Turning To E-Cigarettes
SmokinHammer replied to BirdDog's topic in General Vape News
It is nice to read something that's not completely one sided, but it continues to amaze me that, in a country where the norm is to consider any criminal "innocent until presumed guilty," a device like an e-cig can be considered dangerous until proven safe. -
So, I woke up this morning, feeling a little more pretzel-like than usual, and thought, "I think I'll buy myself an inversion table." Naturally, after looking around on the good old interweb, I am having trouble deciding what make and model to go with. (So many choices!) I knew the "Teeter" line was the cream of the crop, but it's hard to find any model (including the $130 Ironman sold at Sam's Club) that doesn't get a 4 or 5 star review. If anybody has any experience with these things, I'd appreciate some info.

Wisconsin Opposes Smoke Free Electronic Cigarettes
SmokinHammer replied to Christopher's topic in General Vape News
It's amazing how much I love my home town (Milwaukee) and sometimes hate the state it's in. Out west in the "Peoples Republic of Madison," where political groups fight endlessly to save everyone from everything all of the time, exists Smoke Free Wisconsin. A group that, apparently, doesn't know the difference between smoke and vapor. I mostly knew them for their efforts to raise analog prices in Wisconsin. (They have been very good at that) Fortunately, I haven't spent a cent on analogs in more than a month. After reading their blog on the USA Today site, I decided to send them this... Dear friends at Smoke Free Wisconsin, My name is John Richards. I am a professional carpenter living in Milwaukee. I am an amateur photographer and currently I am serving as the president of the Riverwest Artists Association. I am 44 years old, and I started smoking approximately 22 years ago. I have quit a few times, using various products, but have always gone back to tobacco cigarettes. Recently, I found a blog on the USA Today site, which was apparently written by your Policy and Grassroots Specialist, Erich Pitcher. It contained some points on what he, and, I assume, Smoke Free Wisconsin, feel are the dangers of electronic cigarettes. I am frankly offended by and concerned with the position you have taken. Calling yourself an organization with a single focus, "reducing tobacco use in Wisconsin," and then using your time and resources to malign a product that 1) contains no tobacco, and 2) actually works to help thousands of people use something other than tobacco cigarettes is, in my opinion, a way for you to lose credibility with anyone who has done their own research into the use of an e-cigarette. I am not an ignorant man, I have made my own decision to use electronic cigarettes. As a result, I have not smoked a tobacco cigarette in 4 weeks, and have no desire to. I would like to explain to you what I have found in my own research, while going through some of the points of Mr. Pitcher's post. Most e-cigarettes are made in China, the source of lead-tainted toys and melamine-laced dog food. I'm shocked that Mr. Pitcher didn't point out that China is also a communist country that has a very questionable human rights record. If you're going to use scare tactics, you might as well go all out. When the FDA randomly tested the nicotine cartridges, it discovered carcinogens and a toxic chemical found in anti-freeze. Carcinogens? My alternative to electronic cigarettes is tobacco cigarettes, and you think I'm worried about carcinogens in e-cigs? Toxic chemical's? I must, again, assume something here, because Mr. Pitcher has "conveniently" not named the chemical. Propylene Glycol is commonly used in e-cig fluid. It is also a food additive, a moisturizer in medicines, cosmetics, toothpaste and mouth wash, and an emulsification agent in Angostura bitters. I hope, for your sake, that Wisconsinites do not find out that you have a problem with a necessary ingredient for a properly made Brandy Old Fashioned. Still, the most worrisome ingredient is nicotine itself. I simply do not understand your point here. Nicotine is, obviously, found in tobacco cigarettes. They are legal, and, no matter how high the prices go, I can afford to smoke. Nicotine has been, with some credence, vilified by anti-smoking groups. It is a drug, and an addictive one at that; but, it is one that I choose to use. I also use caffeine and alcohol. Someday, I will die, from something. While I am alive, I would like to be free to make choices involving what I think, what I do, and what I consume. Again, my alternative to e-cigs, is tobacco cigarettes. When I was young, my mother had a very large garden. One summer, she became so ill that my father had to take her to the emergency room. The doctor found out that she'd eaten an extraordinary amount of tomatoes in the previous few days, and told her she was having a reaction to the nicotine. I have not searched for an organization called, "Tomato Free Wisconsin." I don't think I will bother. E-cigarettes come in flavors — from traditional menthol to chocolate and strawberry — that might lure curious youngsters and prompt them to move on to the real thing. Distributors say their product is for adults only, but who's to stop young people from buying it? I like many of the fruit flavors, as well as the caramel and coffee flavors, and I am an adult who is able to legally buy and enjoy them. I have a 17 year old daughter. Who will stop her from buying e-cigs? The same people who keep her from buying alcohol, and tobacco now... me, and her mother. Despite protests from the Electronic Cigarette Association that its members don't make claims about helping smokers quit, plenty of sellers make far more outrageous health claims. In recent weeks, one marketer claimed e-cigarettes reduce the risk of heart disease and touted an endorsement by a physician-and-nurses group. Another website, which says it reviews e-cigarettes, went them one better: It claims, based on a 1942 study, that an ingredient in e-cigarettes could prevent flu and other respiratory diseases. I wonder if you bothered to talk to anyone who has started using e-cigs and, as a result, stopped smoking tobacco cigarettes, or if you've researched any statements by professional health care providers. You seem to be implying that no doctor or nurse could ever approve of the use of an e-cig. I have not found that to be the case. The real point that I would like to make about this statement is that you are fooling yourself if you do not realize that you are using the same tactics. You are just on the other side of the argument. If you would like to talk to someone who uses electronic cigarettes, and as a result, has stopped smoking tobacco cigarettes, please contact me using any of the information provided below. I look forward to an intelligent and fair discussion. Sincerely, John Richards -
Opinions On The Big/little Chucks And The Spade?
SmokinHammer replied to fatalis's topic in General Vaping Discussion
I'll also chime in to say that the Spade is an awesome unit. All I know about the Little Chuck is that Stuart has his listed in the classified's because it's "a bit heavy." The Spade might not have the battery life of a Little Chuck, but it is light and easy to carry around. -
Well, You'll Definitely Stop Smoking
SmokinHammer posted a topic in The Vape Lounge - Off Topic Chat
So, my wife and I are back home from her parents house, and enjoying Christmas Vacation on AMC when a commercial for Chantix comes on. Some lady who's "not an actor" describing how easily she quit smoking with this new pill. Then they started with the warnings of possible side effects, and OH MY FREAKING GOD! Check the warnings out HERE. Even if "suicidal thoughts" only happen to a few folks, what about the button points they list as the most common... * Nausea (30%) * Sleep problems (trouble sleeping, changes in dreaming) * Constipation * Gas * Vomiting I'm sure glad I've replaced smoking with vaping. -
Did Santa Bring You Anyting Vapy?
SmokinHammer replied to Galex's topic in General Vaping Discussion
I ordered a juice mixing kit from the DIY Flavor Shack and when it showed up yesterday morning, I was super happy just to have gotten it before they closed down for the holidays. Then I opened it to find a little Christmas stocking, with two extra flavorings for me to try! It was a very nice surprise. -
Outstanding! Keep it up. It's going to get better and better!

Welcome to VT, Jason! You're making great choices so far. The 510 is a great way to start vaping, and Jason at ElectroNic-Stix is awesome.

Fyi = For Your Information
SmokinHammer replied to TheSmokingMan's topic in The Vape Lounge - Off Topic Chat
First off, TSM, I know what a ***** it is to lose a bunch of data and I feel for you. Wow, this site has no love for female dogs! Secondly, Green, Apple makes some really cool stuff, but the hard drives inside their machines are no different than any other. My wife has had two apple desktops, a iMac G3, and then a G5. Both work to this day, but I've replaced the hard drives in each. They both failed after approx 4 years of use. Luckily, when the G5 went down, we had everything backed up. That was from the experience we had from the first one. Back when her G3 drive took a dump, we had nothing, not even CD's, of any of her files; and, had to make the difficult choice to not pay the data recovery folks. In both instances, I was able to, relatively easily, replace (and upgrade) the original Seagate drives. The G3 "bubble", with an upgrade to OSX, still runs in her studio, streaming and storing music for her, and the G5 is back to its old self, after restoring the data from the external drive that we now make sure to update weekly. My new Mac Mini is cool as heck, and has my files, including thousands of pictures backed up on two separate externals, awaiting what I now understand to be inevitable... internal hard drive failure. As I write this, I'm thinking that tomorrow I will add a second external drive to my wife's G5... Better safe than sorry! -
Car Charger And Passthrough
SmokinHammer replied to dlynne's topic in Troubleshooting & Technical Issues
Point taken, but we're talking about a usb pt that works on a computers usb port, 5v at 500 mA, but doesn't work on a car usb adapter that has to be rated at at least that. This doesn't make sense to me.
