Interesting thread Brian, thanks. I wonder what they use to sweeten the mixes? I can sure see how sugar would carbonize on the atty, which might both taste awful and reduce its useful life. All the juice mixing 'secrets' are pretty arcane stuff; not for the faint-of-heart. At least you know to avoid dark ones for now.

Exactly. When I'm tasting liquid mixes and want to know what the new one really tastes like () I'll vape straight VG until there's no flavor and it's gone dry. Then try the new mix. This works very well to get flavor out but takes a bit of patience sometimes.

In a way this almost sounds like the "center post" issue, at least with your second battery. Try not tightening the atty down as much - I know that seems counter-intuitive, but if it works then you'll know it's not the battery. Tighten just enough to make contact. Sometimes the center post gets depressed in the device and attys no longer make a proper connection. Worth a try. I always leave my attys "rattling" around on my PVs, just to be sure I don't move the center post. So far, no problems. <knocks wood>

Coming To My Forum Peeps For A Little Help.
ddavelarsen replied to DAYVAPE's topic in General Vaping Discussion
DV you're all in our prayers. This is a good place for caring about people, we're glad you're here. -
Man, that's funny - laughed out loud, and I just woke up a couple minutes ago. Good way to start the day. There's a whole story about my desk, it was a total score about 25 years ago. Thanks for noticing.

I got my hero for today! Way to go Dr J, that's righteous. I hope that buffoon takes up your challenge.

Ready To Buy, But A Few Questions First.
ddavelarsen replied to BuckMulligan's topic in New Vapers Forum
Well, VT store sells (but is currently out of stock I believe), a USB adaptor that plugs into the 12V outlet of your vehicle. You can find these other places but it's important to get one with sufficient amperage to power the passthrough. The one I got from VT store is 2,000 mah, and many of the ones folks have found in Walmart and similar places are only 500 mah - which would not have enough oomph to run the PT. You can also use the portable battery packs that people use to charge their phones and music players. Typically those will run a passthrough. Just some ideas, good luck! -
Thanks man, that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. As it happens all my flavorings got here yesterday, and the FArt stuff I got was either tobacco or nut flavors, so I may have made the right choices without knowing what I was doing. That doesn't exactly happen every day. I'm looking forward to some experimenting this weekend!

Like Brian, when I find a flavor I like I stock it up. I usually buy 60ml of the stuff I know I like, and believe it or not I've put some serious dents in some of those bottles. While these units sure do eat up the juice, you get that all back in your hit, so for me it's a fair trade. Probably I vape less often getting better hits. Hard to say about that though. Nana's idea of vaping 0 nic between, just to keep vaping is an interesting one. I've never tried that but since I've gotten 'used' to vaping I could probably do something like that too and stretch out the more expensive stuff. Even so, Like Mark said juice is so cheap compared to analogs I still feel like it's a freebee. I can vape like crazy and still save a bunch of money and not hurt myself in the process. Remember what those analog hangovers were like after you'd been smoking up a storm the night before? Ugh. I can sure remember that, still. Sometimes I think it's a wonder I survived this long.

Hi Ethan. I'll address one of your questions now then I gotta get to a meeting. The auto battery turns on when you pull on the end of the e-cig. To get vapor going you need to do one or two primer puffs, then pull for your vapor. With a manual battery, you depress a switch to turn on the battery. A benefit to the manual battery is that liquid cannot leak into it and short it out like the auto batts can. Another benefit to the manual battery is control - you just have better control of the timing of your drag. Good questions, keep asking and we'll get you set. Oh - warranty. I can't say for sure, but I know that our vendors will stand by their products. I'm "pretty sure" - don't quote me - you can get a PCC for the 510. But I might be wrong about that...

Thanks for the great info Icarus! From your advice, it seems like it will take more than a couple of drops for most FArt flavors. Is the amount you use similar to the amount of Lorann's? If so, it will be hard to justify the price difference. Thanks again ~

Welcome to Vapor Talk Ethan! You found a great place. We love answering questions around here. I would definately disuade you from purchasing a blu. These units have a very hit-or-miss reputation - mostly miss. You will find that most experienced vapers will recommend a Joye 510 kit for your first experience. It's a quality device with a solid reputation. You'll get consistent results with plenty of battery life as you describe that. You can find these in the Suppliers section on Vapor Talk. The cartomizers (the 'filter' unit that includes both atomizer and cartridge) like those used in the blu are okay, and for many they are desireable due to the reduced maintenance vs separate attys and carts. But with this convenience you sacrifice a Lot of affordability. You will find that refiling carts, or better, direct dripping onto the atty, is far more economical and provides a more consistent vaping experience. Take a look at the video section in the forum. You'll find many product reviews and helpful instruction for newbies. Others will come along shortly to give you more and better advice than mine, so keep reading. The folks here all want to help you succeed in your new, healthy life. Good luck and have fun!

The Anti-Smoking Movement And The Electronic Cigarette
ddavelarsen replied to jmhester's topic in General Vape News
Yeah, I think this is an issue that goes beyond anyone's political philosophy; the coworkers I'm thinking of are certainly the antithesis of liberal... I tend to think the whole naysayer mentality is driven by one of two things: a desire to control others, or money. The control part is fueled by a personal certainty of superiority. (Well, maybe that is a political philosophy -- but it covers the spectrum, from left to right... ) And Brown is in the money pocket, no doubt about it. -
Thanks for a great link Dr J! The comments are a riot. But I'm really glad to see there are people out there debating this issue publicly.

Absolutely! But it'll never fly because it'd put so many attorneys and accountants out of work! Not to mention congress needs a way to pat the special interests that take such good care of them.

The Anti-Smoking Movement And The Electronic Cigarette
ddavelarsen replied to jmhester's topic in General Vape News
I work with similar moralistic people. These folks think that no one should have any vices, and they feel not only compelled to enforce that view, but righteous in it. In my mind, we have this wonderful necrologic system that not only lets us believe in God but also to seek out mind-bending substances. We've been doing that for 200,000 years - no one's gonna stop it now! -
Way to go Gweetus! and you too Mark and Chris!

That seems like a good idea, and you could always bump the flavor back up with Tasty Puff or Flavour Art. Those take very small amounts to get robust flavor, and have many flavor choices. Tasty Puff Flavour Art at Liberty Flights

Cool man, I've had my eye on that one, now I know I'll read it. We watched a great SF/horror movie last night, Pandorum. Twisty and Recommended!

Poll The First - Your Analog Type
ddavelarsen replied to ddavelarsen's topic in Polls and Questionnaires
Man that's the truth - taxes were one of my big reasons too. I tried MYO for a while but I'm just too much instant-gratification to make that work. Well, honestly - too lazy. One of the few downsides to vaping is its complexity, but even a small amount of interest in not smoking makes that insignificant. -
Vp2 510 Adapter Problem
ddavelarsen replied to DevilDucky's topic in Troubleshooting & Technical Issues
LOL! Yeah, that might do it. That cracked me up, thanks for the laugh. You're my hero for today. You probably don't hear it often, but most people appreciate your service too. My VP2 can be a little finicky but I haven't had that problem yet. Sounds like one of those situations where, if you can't adjust the center pole yourself just to send it to VaprLife for repair. I've had good luck with their turnaround time. You might be off warranty but the repair charge is reasonable. Good luck! -
Ready To Buy, But A Few Questions First.
ddavelarsen replied to BuckMulligan's topic in New Vapers Forum
Welcome BuckMulligan! You sure found a great place, and it's nice that you've been doing your homework. We're here to answer your questions, and we sure get off on that. Which, from the forgoing, you can see. You won't go wrong with a 510. Like has been said, you'll be ahead to buy a genuine Joye unit. Quality vaping stuff doesn't cost a great deal more, but the difference can be vast. If you're looking for a real long-term battery, consider (probably down the road) one of the mods like a Spade or VP2. Batts are good for 8-9 hours of heavy vaping on my VP2 and the Spade reportedly is good for 4 or 5 good hours. You will always want to carry a spare battery and atty though; never know when something might fail and the last thing you'll want is to not be able to vape on. I always carry spares unless I'm only going to be away for a few minutes. Personal preference rules when it comes to choosing flavors. My tobacco favorite is 555. It's a nice nutty tobacco taste. Very nice and clean. Since you're a lights smoker, I'd say start with two strengths - 18 and 24mg. Just buy small amounts until you know what you like and what the best strength for you is. Some folks like to use a different strength depending on the time of day; maybe kick it in with the higher strength in the morning, and vape the lesser during the day. It's a learning thing, and it's fun. We all pretty much prefer the manual button for the reasons stated. I'm a control freak, so that's my reason. But I also direct drip (you will too, eventually). Direct dripping for me gives a more consistent hit and flavor. And I vape hard enough that carts have a hard time keeping up with me; dripping keeps the atty nice and wet. If you have a long commute though, for example, a cart might be your best option. I've had the best luck with the Pyramid Tea Bad mod, but Brian also has discovered another potentially excellent mod. The Amazing Cart Mod It's ready-made for your 510s. What could be cooler than jumping in modding your own carts?! Nothing. Nothing, man. Okay, I'll shut up. Welcome to Vapor Talk! You're going to like it here. -
He he! I'll be the first to use it!

Last weekend I was in the grocery store with my granddaughter. We were looking for something unusual and I took a hit off the trusty VP2 while we were standing there. Ashleigh very quietly said, "Grandpa! Did you know you can't smoke in here?!" Have you ever tried explaining the difference between smoking and vaping to an eight-year-old? The subject kept coming up all afternoon. I don't think I ever convinced her vaping isn't smoking. Which suggests why the naysayers are naysayers: They're all still eight years old!

Where'd they put the camera! I never saw that! I didn't sign a release! Someone's in big trouble!
