  1. Okay, took out the wick part of the cotton and just put it under and around the coil. If I hold the vapor in my mouth for just a second longer than normal the vapor isn't harsh at all. Once the cotton isn't too saturated (read: swimming in juice), it vapes very smoothly now. Woo hoo! As much as I love the HH.357 and its stellar performance, because I vape dark, sweet juices, the coil gunks up very quickly. At $24.99 each, it doesn't last very long -- longer than other atomizers -- but still pretty expensive. I figured if I could build my own coils and get roughly the same performance, it would be a lot more cost effective. Once I get through the learning curve of building coils I think I'm going to be very happy with the IGO-W4.
  2. No problem, and I really appreciate the help. Going into this I knew I had some learning to do as well as lots of trial and error (so far it's been a LOT of error, lol). It's good to get alternatives to try. One or more of them should fix this problem and then I'll know what to do next time.
  3. Since I'm at home today (Mama-san has been having breathing issues and attacks all weekend), it's a good time to try out a few things. I think I'll try building just a regular coil and see how that works. Experimentation is the word for today. Good point about more air flow. Might have to try getting some FLaN in 6 mg to see if that helps. I know I have some other juices in 6 mg so I'll give those a try too. Thanks for the tips, Josh.
  4. I'm wondering the same thing, although lately there have been an increase in bad coils coming out of the box. The instances are so sporadic that it's hard to tell if you've got a bad coil until you put it in and try it out. It's gotten to the point where I'm reconsidering building my own coils for these things to save myself the trouble.
  5. Looks like I made several mistakes. The wick is threaded through but bit's pretty well in there. Will ease up on that. Then, I put the excess under and around but packed it too tight. Yes, on the organic cotton and yes on boiling it first and yes on absorb time, but that may have been negated since the wick was threaded through too tight. The nic is 12 mg FLaN that I direct drip all the time so that shouldn't really have any bearing on it since it's the same juice I chain vape in my HH.357. Thanks for the tips! I'll give them a try later tonight when I have more time to play. ^^
  6. I'm curious. What was the PG/VG ratio of the 24 mg nic juice you tried? The level of nicotine is not always the culprit to a heavy throat hit. More PG in a juice will also do the same. More PG = thinner juice, more throat hit More VG = thicker juice, will gum up coils faster, more vapor, slightly sweeter flavor In my collection I have everything from 0 - 24 mg of nic, most are at 12, however. The 24 has a slightly stronger throat hit but not by a lot because the juices are at a 50/50 blend.
  7. Well, I finally did it. Tonight I built my very first nano coil at 1.6 ohm on a new IGO-W4 with a cotton wick. Since I'm new to this I just went with a single coil at 12 wraps. I'm not getting much vapor, but I think it's because I'm using the Evic... Wait. On the Vision Spinner I'm getting quite a bit more vapor but it's pretty harsh. Just put it on my K100 and...wow! Massive clouds of delicious vapor with little to no harshness. *does happy dance* Holy cloud chasing, Batman! I think we have lift off, ladies and gents. There's still some learning I need to do. Just took out a little bit of the cotton wicking -- I think I had too much in there and packed it too tight. A question for you veteran coil builders out there. Is the harshness due to too much cotton? Should there be any break in time involved? If not, then I'm doing something wrong.... Any tips and tricks you could give would be very much appreciated.
  8. Try going up a little on the wattage and vape to see if you get a burnt taste. Funny, but I'm not having any problems when I chain vape on mine...
  9. My Evic is an expensive paper weight. So not impressed with its performance. If you want a solid mech mod I'd suggest a Kamry K100 or K101 (Empire Clone). It's never given me an ounce of trouble and works like a champ. For something that's variable voltage/variable wattage I'm in love with my iTaste VTR. Both of these work with KPT and Evods without an adapter, they have a 510 connection right off the bat.
  10. Something new to consider would be an iTaste VTR. This is both VV/VW if you don't mind the square shape. I love mine. The Evic is a paper weight for me.
  11. From my experience some of the sweeter juices need a little more power to get the vapor I'm wanting but it's a tricky thing because too much and you get the burnt taste. The sweeter the juice the faster it gunks up coils. The darker the juice the faster it gunks up coils. I've also gotten a whole 5-pack of bad coils once, too. Was just trouble shooting my own Davide a few minutes ago. It's got a 1.8 ohm coil, 50/50 juice at 12 mg nic on an iTaste VTR. Right now I've finally got it dialed in at 3.5 volts, 5 watts. Might try turning the power up just a bit and also waiting a sec or two between draws if you're chain vaping.
  12. Ooooh, shiny! Someday I hope to add 'a ride in a big rig' to my list of things I've done.
  13. A little more info, please! What ohm coil are you using? What flavor, PG/VG ratio, nic level, vendor juice? On what battery? If it's variable voltage/variable wattage, what setting is it on? All these things could be the culprit but I wouldn't know where to start without having all the info first.
  14. Glad they weren't hurt and you weren't caught up in it. Man, that must've sped up your heart rate!
  15. Bet that load kept you wide awake all throughout! And no, I wasn't going to ask. Lol. Just for the record, I'll be my SO's third -- if we ever get around to actually getting formally married. We'll have been together for 20 years this September. That's 18 years longer than his first two put together. And on that note sleep is finally calling. Sorry I can't keep you company any longer.
  16. Okay, what's the most bizarre (that's not censored) run you've ever done?
  17. The spray mist bottle is a great idea. Will have to try it on my next long drive. Before too much longer I'm going to need to make a trip down to Durango, that idea might come in handy to keep me alert. Thanks!
  18. So when you're driving late at night, what do you do to stay awake? I remember taking 10 hour shifts behind the wheel when we went from Southern Colorado to Fairbanks, Alaska in three days two weeks after I got my first license. White line fever was pretty intense.
  19. That's what started happening in the late 70s when we all got out. Step-dad was a lifer in the Navy so I grew up around sailors. I have quite the vocabulary and can make a sailor blush myself if I set my mind to it. Due to my position at work I try not to use those words anymore, it's just not appropriate...even when it would be appropriate if you get my meaning. I'll never forget the shock I got the first time I walked into a Marine enlisted club. Every Marine was instantly on his feet and someone shouted, "lady in the room." Even though the place was packed with men and I was the only woman there (other than my friend who was bartending), every chair in the room was offered to me when I walked in. That certainly made an impression I'll never forget. I never saw anything like it in the Navy enlisted club or even the Chief's club or the Officer's club.
  20. My step-dad got into the CB craze back in the 70s when everyone was getting on the bandwagon. I remember getting dragged to his CB club's meetings. We had a huge home base set up. That was in the old days when even the CB club members were helpful and learned how to use the thing responsibly and were a help to truckers. A few years and bad trucker movies later and we got out when the airways were taken over by the wanna be's. I'm not surprised to see they're still there.
  21. That's interesting. See? I know a little (very little), about a lot of things. It's usually just enough to get me into trouble and/or to rouse my insatiable curiosity. Lol.
  22. Wow. Well that sucks, yet it's good that drivers are rested properly? Since you work for a company you have people who map out your routes for you, right? To make sure the bridges you go under are tall enough for your trailers and everything? Or do you have to do that yourself?
  23. How many hours is it legal for one driver to go before you reach your limit for the day? I know that most independent truckers don't like the lower limits imposed since it costs them money should their load be late.
  24. Thanks, I really appreciate it, Josh! I love learning new things.
