Looking For E-Juice Flavor and Brand With The Best Throat Hit
Tam replied to XrisM's topic in General eLiquid Discussion
We're SO not good at following orders around here. *sighs* -
No, but I gave it a good fight this time. Lol. I'm totally perplexed that I can never seem to fill anything with Butane. My SO isn't much better about this, either.

Looking For E-Juice Flavor and Brand With The Best Throat Hit
Tam replied to XrisM's topic in General eLiquid Discussion
If you've been getting answers like nic level, PG/VG ratios, vv (variable voltage), vw (Volkswagon -- just kidding, variable wattage), etc. then you've been lucky to have hit on forum members who know what they're talking about and are trying to give you good, true advice. You'll find that we'll say the same things here. If you finally do find a forum that tells you different? They either don't know what they're talking about or they're feeding you a line. Like Josh said above, there is no one BEST juice. There is, however, a juice that is best for YOU, but only you will be able to say which one that is. Trial and error is the name of the game. -
saying goodbye to my original joye 1000 mah twist

Congrats on outlasting your first battery! -
Okay, here's my last suggestion and then I'm tapped out. When you took the hit, did you draw it into your mouth first, wait a second and then inhale? If you went straight for the lung inhale, that could also be why you had the coughing fit. Not a good thing to do until you're used to the vapor.

That's the same one I got, but haven't been able to get it filled so far. As mechanically inclined as I am you'd think filling a simple Butane torch wouldn't be a problem but it is. We've already gone five rounds and I haven't won one yet. It will be wrestled into submission, though! Any mysterious tips on how to get it to fill?
-
What do you use for a torch? I got a Butane mini torch that is refillable, but for some reason Butane and I have never gotten along even back when I was smoking. Trying to refill it...well, let's just say that I get out my colorful vocabulary and dust it off and give it a good work over.

Okay, took out the wick part of the cotton and just put it under and around the coil. If I hold the vapor in my mouth for just a second longer than normal the vapor isn't harsh at all. Once the cotton isn't too saturated (read: swimming in juice), it vapes very smoothly now. Woo hoo! As much as I love the HH.357 and its stellar performance, because I vape dark, sweet juices, the coil gunks up very quickly. At $24.99 each, it doesn't last very long -- longer than other atomizers -- but still pretty expensive. I figured if I could build my own coils and get roughly the same performance, it would be a lot more cost effective. Once I get through the learning curve of building coils I think I'm going to be very happy with the IGO-W4.

No problem, and I really appreciate the help. Going into this I knew I had some learning to do as well as lots of trial and error (so far it's been a LOT of error, lol). It's good to get alternatives to try. One or more of them should fix this problem and then I'll know what to do next time.

Since I'm at home today (Mama-san has been having breathing issues and attacks all weekend), it's a good time to try out a few things. I think I'll try building just a regular coil and see how that works. Experimentation is the word for today. Good point about more air flow. Might have to try getting some FLaN in 6 mg to see if that helps. I know I have some other juices in 6 mg so I'll give those a try too. Thanks for the tips, Josh.

Always mouth to lung.

I'm wondering the same thing, although lately there have been an increase in bad coils coming out of the box. The instances are so sporadic that it's hard to tell if you've got a bad coil until you put it in and try it out. It's gotten to the point where I'm reconsidering building my own coils for these things to save myself the trouble.

Looks like I made several mistakes. The wick is threaded through but bit's pretty well in there. Will ease up on that. Then, I put the excess under and around but packed it too tight. Yes, on the organic cotton and yes on boiling it first and yes on absorb time, but that may have been negated since the wick was threaded through too tight. The nic is 12 mg FLaN that I direct drip all the time so that shouldn't really have any bearing on it since it's the same juice I chain vape in my HH.357. Thanks for the tips! I'll give them a try later tonight when I have more time to play. ^^

I'm curious. What was the PG/VG ratio of the 24 mg nic juice you tried? The level of nicotine is not always the culprit to a heavy throat hit. More PG in a juice will also do the same. More PG = thinner juice, more throat hit More VG = thicker juice, will gum up coils faster, more vapor, slightly sweeter flavor In my collection I have everything from 0 - 24 mg of nic, most are at 12, however. The 24 has a slightly stronger throat hit but not by a lot because the juices are at a 50/50 blend.

Well, I finally did it. Tonight I built my very first nano coil at 1.6 ohm on a new IGO-W4 with a cotton wick. Since I'm new to this I just went with a single coil at 12 wraps. I'm not getting much vapor, but I think it's because I'm using the Evic... Wait. On the Vision Spinner I'm getting quite a bit more vapor but it's pretty harsh. Just put it on my K100 and...wow! Massive clouds of delicious vapor with little to no harshness. *does happy dance* Holy cloud chasing, Batman! I think we have lift off, ladies and gents. There's still some learning I need to do. Just took out a little bit of the cotton wicking -- I think I had too much in there and packed it too tight. A question for you veteran coil builders out there. Is the harshness due to too much cotton? Should there be any break in time involved? If not, then I'm doing something wrong.... Any tips and tricks you could give would be very much appreciated.

Try going up a little on the wattage and vape to see if you get a burnt taste. Funny, but I'm not having any problems when I chain vape on mine...
-
My Evic is an expensive paper weight. So not impressed with its performance. If you want a solid mech mod I'd suggest a Kamry K100 or K101 (Empire Clone). It's never given me an ounce of trouble and works like a champ. For something that's variable voltage/variable wattage I'm in love with my iTaste VTR. Both of these work with KPT and Evods without an adapter, they have a 510 connection right off the bat.
-
Something new to consider would be an iTaste VTR. This is both VV/VW if you don't mind the square shape. I love mine. The Evic is a paper weight for me.

From my experience some of the sweeter juices need a little more power to get the vapor I'm wanting but it's a tricky thing because too much and you get the burnt taste. The sweeter the juice the faster it gunks up coils. The darker the juice the faster it gunks up coils. I've also gotten a whole 5-pack of bad coils once, too. Was just trouble shooting my own Davide a few minutes ago. It's got a 1.8 ohm coil, 50/50 juice at 12 mg nic on an iTaste VTR. Right now I've finally got it dialed in at 3.5 volts, 5 watts. Might try turning the power up just a bit and also waiting a sec or two between draws if you're chain vaping.

Ooooh, shiny! Someday I hope to add 'a ride in a big rig' to my list of things I've done.
-
A little more info, please! What ohm coil are you using? What flavor, PG/VG ratio, nic level, vendor juice? On what battery? If it's variable voltage/variable wattage, what setting is it on? All these things could be the culprit but I wouldn't know where to start without having all the info first.

Glad they weren't hurt and you weren't caught up in it. Man, that must've sped up your heart rate!

Bet that load kept you wide awake all throughout! And no, I wasn't going to ask. Lol. Just for the record, I'll be my SO's third -- if we ever get around to actually getting formally married. We'll have been together for 20 years this September. That's 18 years longer than his first two put together. And on that note sleep is finally calling. Sorry I can't keep you company any longer.

Okay, what's the most bizarre (that's not censored) run you've ever done?
