I feel like you got this.

Welcome. You've definitely come to the right place...collectively, we know everything.

Actually, twisting your Kanthal will lower your resistance by about 1/3, so If you're using 32 gauge Kanthal A-1, a single strand should provide you with about 1.15Ω per inch, while twisted 32 gauge should get you down to around .77Ω per inch. The big difference is that you've effectively doubled your surface area and added a lot of little nooks and crannies for your juice to get vaporized from. Why your resistance increased is a mystery to me, too.

If you're into robots, maybe. In fact, you just helped me name this mod. I'm gonna call it C3P0's ****. Thanks a lot. (There goes my "0 warning points" status. ) -

When are you gonna start wrapping your own coils, girl? It costs me about 2¢ to re-coil my KPT/EVOD heads. Four wraps of 32 gauge Kanthal A-1 around a 2mm silica wick yields 2.2Ω every time. -
Without knowing the specifics, it could be just about anything. Please list the brand and model of the e-cig you're using, the brand and resistance rating of your CE5 (if you know it), and what type of e-liquid you put in it. Once we know a little more, we'll have a better chance of getting your room fogged up for you.

Today's USPS delivery contained the last piece to complete my workingman's mod, the Grand Vapor Sentinel V3 Mechanical Mod clone from FastTech ($18.11). Under the hood, there's an AW IMR18350 battery from VaporKings ($8.95) & a Sigelei-K variable wattage module from Bucky's Bargain Vaping ($17.69). On top is a Kanger ProTank from The Veteran Vaper ($17.95). -
I like EC Blend's Cinnamon Fireball ("Make It Nuclear" option) 80PG/20VG 18 mg...tastes like Atomic Fireball candy. Other than Mad Murdock's Radiator Pluid, nothing else I've tried has this kind of in-your-face flavor.

Coils for Kanger Pro Tank (1 & 2), EVOD, MT3S and T3S
Rixter replied to Tam's topic in General Vaping Discussion
If the draw was fine at first but has tightened up over time, drilling out the air holes is probably not going to fix the problem. What's happened is more and more juice has gotten baked onto the coils from use, so unless you can re-coil the head with fresh wire, the main air path will get more and more blocked over time. Sounds like a replacement head is in order. Does your version of the MT3 have a separate base and coil head, or is the coil head and base all one piece? -
It makes absolute sense to me...not all juices like high power. Some juices taste and perform better at low power. It sounds like Strawberry Fields is one of the latter. Looks like you've found your "sweet spot" with Strawberry Fields to be 3.8v/2.5Ω, or around 5.8 watts (according to Ohm's Law)...your perfect balance of flavor & vapor production. You can still use your 2.2Ω coils, though. You'll get a comparable vape if you set your PV's voltage at about 3.5v, which achieves roughly the same power. You may have noticed an increase in performance when you made the switch, but remember, you swapped a used coil (however slightly) for a fresh new one. *EDIT* I hate to throw another variable into the mix, but coil making is not an exact science as of yet. Performance levels can vary greatly in coils of the same brand and resistance due to the shape & position of the coil in the housing, irregularities or positioning of the wicking material, the way air flows through the housing, etc...all sorts of things can make coils behave slightly different from one to the next.
-
Voltage² ÷ Resistance = Power. If Strawberry Fields tastes burnt to you at above 3.8v with a 2.2Ω coil, that means it tastes burnt to you at above 6½ watts, and any combination that you try (by changing voltage or resistance) is going to taste burnt to you at above 6½ watts. If you switch to a 2.5Ω coil, anything you try at above 4v is going to taste burnt to you because 4v with a 2.5Ω coil = 6½ watts. 4v with a 2.5Ω coil is exactly the same vaping experience as 3.8v with a 2.2Ω coil. The only difference is the current applied...the 4V/2.5Ω setup will use 1.6 amps, and the 3.8v/2.2Ω setup will use 1.7 amps...both current levels are well below your PV switch's amp limits. *EDIT* Actually (and this is splitting hairs), by switching from 3.8v/2.2Ω to 4v/2.5Ω, you're dropping your power to the coil by .16364 watts.

My Sigelei K from Bucky's Bargain Vaping came in today. $17.69 shipped. I bought it to use in my V3 brass telescopic mech mod when it comes in. Variable power from 5w-10w, Low impedance protection below 1Ω, Under voltage protection below 3.2v -
Single 18650 Vs. Stacked 18350 Batteries
Rixter replied to Rixter's topic in Variable Voltage & Wattage
It seems that today's better quality IMR batteries are capable of handling higher current levels than earlier ones, so stacking is not necessary to obtain higher power for dual coil devices. I've never had a problem doing it, but I no longer stack 18350s in my Zmax...no need to anymore. -
I started having a little trouble with my HH.357's resistance level dropping, so I sent it back for them to check it out. Let me be clear that its performance remained outstanding. The following conversation is from my AvidVaper Help Desk and knowledge base ticket: Rixter: I just received my HH.357 Long Barrel Hybrid 510 Atomizer three days ago, and it is the best performing atty I've ever used. The only thing that concerns me is that the resistance level has slowly dropped from 2Ω to 1.7Ω, and I'm just wondering if that's normal with the HH.357. I'm using an 80PG/20VG blend, and my juices are relatively clear. Rixter: I've been using it on a Sigelei Zmax set at 8 watts. Rixter: Resistance is still dropping. It's now dropped from 2Ω to 1.5Ω after only four days of use. I figure I've dripped less than 3 ml. through it so far. Hanna Hadawar: Hey Rick, that doesnt sound good...what liquid are you using? is it dark or sweet? any dry burning for cleaning or accidental? Rixter: I've been mostly using EC Blends' Chocolate Malt, which is sort of sweet but not too dark. I have not dry burned the atty or cleaned it in any way. As I said before, I've only had it for a few days and followed all instructions on the product page to the letter. It performs remarkably well, and except for the drop in resistance, I've had no problems with it at all. I have used it exclusively on my Sigelei Zmax set to 8 watts, so the device has been adjusting its voltage to compensate for the lower resistance, but at 1.5Ω, I hesitate to use it on any of my other regulated devices. I've attached a close-up of the coil so you can see the condition of it, and also a pic of the juice I'm using in it. Hanna Hadawar: Oh yeah wow coils look great actually. thanks for sending the pics it always helps. If you would like you can send the atty to my address below and i can take a look at what is going on and get it repaired or replaced for you. Rixter: It's still dropping (now at 1.3Ω), so I'll send it back this weekend. Rixter: Hi Hanna. I mailed my HH.357 to you on 8/3/13, and USPS tracking confirms delivery on 8/6/13. I was just wondering if you've had a chance to check it out yet and figure out what's going on with the resistance drop. I'm not rushing you, but it's such a great atty that I do find myself missing it. Hanna Hadawar: Hey Rick, I do have it and I will be able to give you an update a little later this evening if that is ok with you. I will probably be able to ship something back to you tomorrow. Rixter: Thanks Hanna. Hanna Hadawar: Rick, took the atty apart, coil looked good but wick was fused solid and coil wouldnt budge. A few of the windings of wire were fused together and shorting, dropping resistance. I was able to break them free and the resistance is up to 2.1 ohm. This issue is often seen with accidental fire, prolonged dry burning or not enough liquid when vaping OR anything that would cause it to run hotter than normal repeatedly. You have said you didnt dry burn so that one is out so maybe a little more liquid is needed? It can be caused by deposits on the coil but your coil was pretty clean. I am going to rebuild this for you and send it out, just $5 for shipping, is that ok with you? Rixter: Glad you are able to repair it, and the shipping charge will be fine. Just let me know how to proceed with payment. I gotta tell you, at around $25 shipped for one atomizer, I was extremely careful not to dry burn or abuse it in any way...in fact, I babied it. The instant I didn't detect the slight gurgle of e-liquid, I added a few more drops. I also kept the power at 8 watts because that's all it took to get great taste and vapor production. I'm pretty baffled by this. Hanna Hadawar: It might not be anything you did at all, might just be the malty flavoring, I have seen a lot of liquids and with that i have seen some strange things. Everything from melting wire and plastic to conductive liquid and conductive when heated?? I cant explain it unfortunately, the HH has the same materials as any other atty but goes through liquid very quickly so if there is an issue it tends to present itself faster on the HH. Some people have chosen not to use the hh with certain liquids, others just decide that the flavor of the liquid is better than the added performance of the HH and cant justify the added price and I completely understand. That's all I have for now, but I thought everyone should be reminded that the HH.357 should never be run dry or over-heated.

The Empire PV Mod...It's Baaaaaaaaaack!
Rixter replied to Rixter's topic in Share the Latest Vaping Products
Sorry. Here it is, but it's too late now...they're sold out already. Got the email last night and they were sold out this morning. From the product page: We have now "SOLD OUT" of the batch of Empire Mods that were released to our site 8-12-13. We had a limited number of them available and hope to have more in the upcoming weeks ahead. We will update as things get closer and thank you again for your continued support!!! -
My mistake. I thought you meant "about the same" as the pic in my original post.
-
I just got notification from EmpireMods that they've started selling the legendary 901 Empire PV mechanical mod again. It can be found in a variety of new finishes here. Ready...begin.

For some reason, my 2Ω Long Barrel HH.357 looks different from that picture.

Anyone who owns a SmokTech RSST will probably agree that it is a really great RBA, but it does have at least one flaw...it leaks. This is something that I've seen online over and over from RSST owners, so I figured it had to be a design issue. I then set out to figure out what the problem was and how to fix it. Well, I figured it out, and the solution is a simple one. The leak occurs because Smoktech decided to go with a hard white plastic insulator where the positive posts passes through the RSST's top deck, so your juice ends up flowing right past the insulator, down the shaft, and right out the bottom into your mod's 510 connection. Why they went with a hard plastic top deck insulator instead of a soft silicone insulator/seal is beyond me, but they did. To stop your RSST from leaking, you'll need to get some of these: Silicone top-hat seals for an AGA-T2 I was unsuccessful in finding just the seals, but I did find the entire AGA-T2 replacement part kit (which includes a couple of these seals) for $2.59 from VaporCigzz. (If anyone is successful in finding just the seals, please post where you found 'em.) Once you have your silicone seals, just break down your RSST and replace the hard plastic top deck insulator with one of the soft silicone insulators/seals. Then put everything back together, fill 'er up, and enjoy leak-free vaping. I hope this helps...mine hasn't leaked a single drop since I did this. My SmokTech RSST with AGA-T2 top deck seal...no more leaks!

Each juice has it's own "sweet spot"...some blends just don't shine at lower power levels. Glad you like it, Tam.
