  1. Hi All, I see lurkingly that many here are quite into the Istick 50W for several reasons. One being that it's good for sub ohm tanks? Another for how long it lasts between charges. I received one as a gift several weeks back and I too loved it. I loved it because it would last more than two days without charging because I seem to vape almost constantly, and it was relatively compact, had a good feel in the hand. Then a while back a couple of weeks ago maybe, I noticed a couple of times that when I pulled it from my pocket to take a hit, it had jumped to very high watts from my usual range of 9 to 11 depending on age of coil and liquid used. I'm mostly using IClear 30's I think they're called because I just happen to have so many. They used to come with so many kits I bought and I ended up with so many spare coils, and they work ok for me. Anyway the very high watts that suddenly appeared either gave me a horrible hit or just blew the coil away. I thought this was because I'd been inadvertently hitting the up watts button while the thing was in my pocket and never remembering to shut the thing off before putting it in my pocket. Then a few days ago, my sig other said, "Hey, did you hear the 50W is having an auto fire issue?". I'd never heard of it but coincidentally that day or the next, I actually saw this happen. I was sitting at the computer and the battery suddenly started firing and I grabbed it and hit the fire button and it stopped. Sig other stopped trusting it instantly and said I'd better contain it while charging and store it outside, not keep near the bed etc. I said, "We live in a cement house. Who ever heard of a cement house burning down?". But I do know we've got lots of wooden stuff here that could make quite a mess so I took to putting the thing in a stainless half liter tin with a clamped cover I would normally use to store homemade ice cream. Then one day, I was just sitting there and heard a 'pssssssssssssst' sound and immediately thought the cats must have caught a snake (occasional occurrence here). But then I smelled burning metal and looked over at the tin and it was glowing on one end and the 'pssssssssst' sound was from there. I had to unlock the rear kitchen to get oven mitts and finally picked up the thing and threw the container, Istick out onto the driveway. The lid fell off the tin and the mod flew out and I ran to look and it was really hot. Then when it cooled I pushed the button and saw it still had charge left so I just put it back in the tin, put it in the car on top of the oven mitts and drove 5 mins to the recycling centre. Before I got there it fired up again and when I opened the car door and showed the recycling guy he just grabbed it and threw it in the guard dog's water where it hissssssed to death. After assuring that the dog got new water, I left. End of story except I wish I'd had presence of mind to take a vid or pic at least but I guess I was pressed into action and not testing if it were actually possible to burn down a cement house. Any one else had something like this?
  2. 49 long long years. I started 24 November 1964. How the hell do I remember? Well.......... It was my grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary, and to celebrate they flew all their family members to Ft. Lauderdale from various parts of the country, myself and family from Connecticut. I was 12. It was memorable, having never gone farther from Connecticut than Massachusetts or Rhode Island. It was cold in Connecticut and a few hours later toasty in Florida. Very cool. But it soon got so boring what with the old people chatting about the gods know what and smiling nicely to aunties, uncles and cousins. So.......... off I went on an adventure to the pier. There at the entrance to the pier was a cigarette vending machine. I was kinda fascinated because my cool friends in Connecticut had let me take a few puffs on their stolen from parents cigarettes before. So I glanced surreptitiously at that tempting bandit. I noticed two things: Kent said "King Size" under the brand label, and the price was listed as 35 cents. I immediately thought, "Kent must be the biggest" and, "I've got 35 cents". So I walked about for a bit and sneaked back past the machine and dropped in a quarter and kept walking. A few minutes later, I came back past the vendor and dropped in a dime and continued walking. Finally I returned and pulled the lever under the Kent sign and waited for an eternity while the thing took its sweet time dropping the pack to the lower tray. With the speed of a hermit crab, I snatched that pack and jammed it into the hidden pocket of my shorts and ran away from the pier glancing back to make sure the narcs weren't looking of following. That week the only thing on my mind was getting away from the party to play with my new found addiction. I still had several left when we returned to Connecticut and thus began my life of smoking and crime to support that addiction....
  3. That is so awesome! Congratulations. When I see numbers like this it gives me pause for thought. I think at my age, and number of years smoking, ( I too was never without cigarette, pipe or cigar) I'd be close to signing up for the oxygen tent. So many of us must have a great tolerance for poisoning ourselves, as I seemed to really make strides in recovery from the effects of almost 50 years of two plus packs a day. Of course we all have been told ad nauseum that there's no recovery from COPD etc. yet somehow I'm now able to bound up stairs without wanting to make a heavy breathing phone call at the top, and swim now 1.5 lengths of the pool underwater. No matter what the naysayers say, I can now wake up without hacking up a lung, sleep without limbs going numb, breathe through my nose while sleeping, never have panic attacks because I can't get to the top of my breath, no more making sure I have cough drops so I don't disrupt classes I'm trying to teach, on and on and on. VT has been a big part of this journey. It's very helpful to be able to see that others have had the same experiences along the road.
  4. My regular pub recently installed an air con room. Prohibits smoking, although I enjoy watching the guys trying to get away with sneaking one. I'm actually allowed to vape inside; chase clouds if I want, but..... most of the guys I drink with are smokers and I prefer the cool company over cool air. Oh year, they charge a 50 sen premium for each bottle of beer drunk [(drunken? drank?) and I profess to teach English as a second language].in the comfort of air conditioning.
  5. I did too. those cigalikes were terrible and expensive for very little satisfaction. I almost gave the whole thing up as a bad job till I saw a salesman toking on an eGo VV and saw that the damned thing actually worked. My sig other surprised me with a starter kit after I raved about the salesman's showmanship. The rest is satisfaction, analogue free, fun hobby history
  6. It reminds me of when I was trying to switch from cigarettes to a pipe. That thing was always in my hand whether I was toking on it or not. I used it for pointing, gesticulating, making a point etc. Now with these big wonker batteries and tanks it's kinda the same thing.
  7. I think that's a great idea. The more we can distance our activity from e-cigarette smoking and more towards personal vaping, the less comparison people will make with analogues.
  8. Welcome. I's really amazing the improvement in equipment and liquid over a short time. Looking back, I'm surprised I was able to stay off the cigs with the equipment I started with. Some of my originals should be in a museum.
  9. Many times in life we find ourselves standing on the shoulders of giants. I believe this is one.
  10. I've tried all those things as well. That Zyban was great! I didn't care for a while if I smoked or not, but that didn't slow me down. I never ever wanted to quit. I loved smoking but thought I had to quit after at that time about 30 years into it. It just stopped bothering me that I was smoking. I remember hearing a doctor interviewed about smoking and he was asked how long he thought a person could survive being a smoker and he answered, "Oh I'd say about 30 years would be about the limit". Sheesh! Then my sig other said, "I was worried about you last night, I thought you were having a seizure". That was the end of the Zyban for me. NIneteen years later, I found vaping and now for more than 2 years, I've done nothing but get healthier, feeling great, running up stairs despite my knees needing replacement. Anxiety not existent and can hold my breath underwater for almost 2 pool lengths. As someone who was a childhood expert at playing doctor, I feel qualified to comment on this matter.
  11. I can simulate that if I live long enough, or if Social Security resurrects me again. Maybe, or not, or......:)
  12. I was working in the lab late one night ....... Ok, so I'm making Comp's recipe (sorta) using pipe tobacco and PG/VG in a mason jar. Shaking it twice a day for three months. Because Malaysia is a majority Muslim country, there don't seem to be many liquor barrels about, so I think I'll get myself over to Ace Hardware and buy some of that "all natural" oak barbeque chips and slip a couple in my experiment. Maybe that'll achieve the same result?
  13. I find this topic interesting. Especially about PG and nicotine. I've often had an O ring fail and got a bit, ok sometimes more than a bit of eliquid in my mouth and out of politeness, swallowed it. So far the only ramifications of that is hiccups. They occur about two minutes after swallowing. I drink a bit more than usual of what I'm currently drinking, water, coffee, beer to dilute it and the hiccups pass in about three minutes from onset. That's it. Of course individuals are all different, but swallowing liquid is more likely to cause absorption than dripping it on your skin. I haven't croaked, kicked the bucket, dropped dead, bought the farm, etc. so far. (unless you listen to the US Social Security Admin. but that's a different story. The reason PG interests me is because here in Malaysia I've had so many many people accuse me of vaping engine coolant and are surprised when I tell them that this is Propylene Glycol, not Ethylene Glycol. Ethylene Glycol being the antifreezing agent in engine coolant. So many ignorant people spouting off on what they think they know. Now, for fun, I had a duck for a pet when I was young, and no, the other kids didn't call me "duck boy", they called me much worse, but that's not the point of this. I used to use Veggie Glycerine to keep the duck's water from freezing. Recommended by the vet. I could by it very inexpensively at either a pharmacy or the vet's in 1 litre bottles. Hard to remember so long ago, but that duck lived much longer than most domesticated birds (of course wasn't used for Christmas dinner) without any noticeable health consequences.
  14. Sadly after more than two years of exclusively vaping, I am still on the quest for the perfect tobacco flavour. But trying to find it is half the fun, no?
  15. I really should check it out. I've got so many bottles open and going at the same time as well as so many tanks full, 1/2, 1/4 full. I never know how much I use. When I was smoking is was so easy. 2 packs a day unless drinking then it's more. I guess it would be nice to know.
  16. Water water water is the answer. Beer beer beer is also the answer when actually drinking it, but next morning eyes dryer than ever! Vaping is dehydrating. When I was using contact lenses, I could always tell my hydration level because the contacts dried out before my eyes and was a great reminder to drink more water. Vaping does the same thing to my natural eyes, so yet another benefit! Now every morning even before my coffee, I'll do some water and it's almost like instant eye drops only from the inside.
  17. I would love to see a sub that allowed discussion on that which we cannot discuss here (420). Also those dry vaping devices. I know nothing about them as I'm too lazy to seek out forums that discuss these topics. My whole goal was to quit tobacco and I've been successful for over 2 years largely thanks to VT and have no intention of trying out something that might be more harmful to my lungs, but I'm still interested in what's out there, and censoring never seems a good solution. Education not Legislation! 1234 we don't want your effing war! Et al.
  18. Or feeling the need to make a heavy breathing phone call The whole concept is appealing! I agree with all who say being off cigarettes (pipes and cigars included) is the very best! The health benefits come in baby steps, but summed up are amazing. I've not felt this good since I started smoking at 12 some 51 years ago. Amazing bears repeating. The bling, battery life, flavours are just icing on the cake. As a teacher of ESL I was suddenly stuck with the idea that 'amazing bears repeating' might be wrong and should be 'amazing bares repeating' so I looked it up and actually ...... (drum roll) ....... 'Amazing's worth repeating.'
  19. Damn! I'll get there, but I forgot reviews like yours are child protected! Gotta find my password for google and don't want to screw it up by trying to change. I'm still trying to recover my social security retirement benefits from dying (see 'Is there vaping in the afterlife Yes' thread here. The last time I tried to recover my password from google I lost gmail to get youtube and I need gmail (automatic) to communicate with social security. But! Have faith (not in my technology challenged brain) in my dedication to see your reviews! Cheers, the late Jon
