  1. 3 drops will last anywhere from 4 to 8 drags, depending on voltage, how deep you pull, and the liquid. A good sign is when you start to lose vapor and flavor it is time to drip again.
  2. No, they have different threads. You can buy an adapter for an 801 battery that will fit a 510 atty though. It would be the same adapter used to allow a VP2 to use a 510 atty. I wouldn't use 510 batteries anyway if I could avoid it, they are notoriously short lived.
  3. Discovered a new mix last night that I am REALLY enjoying. Was getting low on my 10ml bottle of Exotic Tobacco, so I wanted to find a way to stretch it out a bit before the store opens. So I tossed this together after some testing: 50% Vapor Talk Exotic Tobacco 50% Dekang VG Peanut Butter from Cignot It has a rich nutty flavor, good tobacco taste, with just a hint of sweetness to it. This may make its way into my daily mix. I'm loving it this morning.
  4. I've never had a warm feeling from the 801. I have, however, had juices that delivered a warmer vapor than others, but I think it is due to the adding of distilled water to either dilute the nic or thin out a VG mix.
  5. There are lots of places that sell manual batteries for the 801. I think Chris has been using his VP2 so much that he probably hasn't been doing much shopping these days to notice Here is one place that sells them for $11.99, which is a pretty good buy for a manual 801 batt. http://thehouseofvapor.com/Dse801.aspx
  6. Same length, not as thick? That means even crappier battery life! Ugh!
  7. Never had that happen. I've heard "popping" and sizzling from the atty when doing a dry burn, but never with any pressure. Does the atty seem to be working ok? I wonder if it is the battery and not the atty.
  8. Network Systems Manager for a Pharma-tech company. I pretty much get paid to tell my techs what to do, and then waste the rest of the day cruising the internet! :P
  9. Today the morning vape is Bananna-Berry-Split. Don't try this at home kids! VG/Everclear mix Bananna Flavoring Strawberry Flavoring 36mg Cream Liquid Base Just a dab of Peanut Butter and Chocolate Hazelnut flavoring Pure yum
  10. 1. Yes. If you see someone selling 48mg unflavored, they are selling 48mg/mL nic juice. Same would go for anything else I am pretty sure. 2. You can add PG or VG to dilute the nic strength. Also, flavoring you add will dilute it as well. You can also mix in some alcohol or distilled water. 3. Most flavors are 10%-20%, depending on the flavor type, company that makes it, and your personal tastes. Capella's flavoring takes more than Lorann's for example, so you would be using closer to 20% there. 4. That all depends on you. Personally, I cut my nic juice with a few different things, depending on what I am making. If I want throat hit, I have a mix of 65% PG, 20% VG, 15% Everclear. If I am going for vapor, I have a 50% VG/50% Everclear mix. I also have a 30% vanilla/70% VG mix I use for some flavor bases. It all depends on what you like. For stealth vaping, go with PG mixes, they produce less vapor. And as suggested, hold it in longer. The vapor will be almost invisible when you exhale.

  12. This is copied from another forum, but a member there has been doing tests on various liquids. He is a professional chemist though. I would not actually attempt this myself. But he says it is fairly simple. Determination of nicotine in e-liquid by titration ----------------------------- First, a word from my ***, which prefers to be covered: ----------------------------- ALL MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS APPLICABLE TO ANY MATERIAL REFERENCED HERE MUST BE READ AND UNDERSTOOD, PARTICULARLY AS THEY RELATE TO CHEMICAL EXPOSURE AND SPILL CLEANUP. APPROPRIATE PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT MUST BE WORN INCLUDING (AT MINIMUM) ANSI Z87 RATED SAFETY GLASSES, CHEMICAL RESISTANT GLOVES APPROPRIATE TO THE MATERIALS BEING HANDLED, AND A PROTECTIVE LAB COAT. ALL WORK MUST BE PERFORMED IN A FUME HOOD UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF AN APPROPRIATELY TRAINED INDIVIDUAL. AN EYEWASH AND SAFETY SHOWER MUST BE READILY ACCESSIBLE AND ANYBODY ATTEMPTING ANY PROCEDURE REFERENCED HERE MUST BE TRAINED IN THEIR USE. NOTWITHSTANDING THESE SAFETY REQUIREMENTS, INJURY MAY STILL RESULT AND THE INDIVIDUAL BY PERFORMING ANY PROCEDURE SPECIFIED HERE ACKNOWLEDGES ALL RESPONSIBILITY AND LIABILITY AS HIS OWN. ----------------------------- Acid/base titration is an analytical technique by which a standardized solution (in this case an acid) is added to a solution containing an unknown amount of a substance (in this case, nicotine, an organic base) to determine the amount/concentration of the unknown via neutralization. A color changing indicator is added to the solution containing the nicotine to tell us when the nicotine has been neutralized (all free nicotine converted to salt). It is at this point that the pH of the solution swings from alkaline (pH > 7) to acidic (pH < 7). Nicotine acts as a mono-hydroxy base (even though it's really a basic nitrogen at work), and titration with a strong acid gives a sharp endpoint. This is to say that as we add acid in the presence of excess free nicotine, the solution pH will drop slowly toward 7 (neutral) until the free nicotine is neutralized. At this point, adding another drop or two of the acid solution will cause a precipitous drop in the pH of the solution indicating what is referred to as the endpoint of the titration. Example: we have 50 mL of water at pH 7. We add 1 drop (0.05 mL) of 0.1N HCl solution. What is the resulting pH? Doesn't seem like it should change by a lot, does it? wrong. The hydrogen ion concentration becomes: 0.1 * (0.05/50.05) = 0.0000999 N (round to 0.0001 N) Since pH is defined as -log (base 10) of the hydrogen ion concentration, we find the negative log of 0.0001, which is 4. So that single drop of 0.1 N strong acid (full ionization) drops the pH from 7 to 4. So as long as there is excess nicotine relative to the acid that's being added, the pH remains greater than 7, but once the nicotine is consumed, it takes a tiny amount of acid to drop the pH far below 7. Enough theory.. let's make it work. --------------------------------- Equipment: 1. 50 mL burette w/stopcock, 0.1 ml subdivisions. (can be had for under $20) 2. A burette stand and burette clamp. (or anything you can cobble together to make the burette stand upright in one spot). 3. 250 mL erlenmeyer flask. (or suitably sized glass container) 4. 25 mL graduated cylinder, 0.5 ml subdivisions. (under $10 on eBay or elsewhere) 5. Bromothymol blue, aqueous solution. (API pH Test Kit, from Mars Fishcare) Walmart usually has it for about $5 in the aquarium supply section. If it has a color card in the box that shows a range of 6.0 - 7.6 (going from yellow, through green, to blue), this is the stuff. 6. 1000 mL volumetric flask (or 1L plastic bottle marked with a Sharpie) 7. 0.1N HCl solution, 1 liter. (you make this from 32% muriatic acid) 8. Distilled water, 1 gallon. (from local supermarket) Before use, all containers should be washed 3X with distilled water at 10% of the volume of the container and dried with a clean paper towel. E.G., A 250 mL erlenmeyer flask should be rinsed 3X with ~25 mL distilled water. --------------------------------- Preparation of 0.1N HCl You could simply look around on the internet and purchase a liter of 0.1N sulfuric acid. This shouldn't land you on any government watch-lists. Try to buy concentrated sulfuric acid, and someone is going to notice. If you don't want to go the 0.1N sulfuric acid route, you can make a pretty approximate 0.1N HCl solution by purchasing some 32% muriatic acid. You've just re-read the safety warning at the top of this post, you've read a bunch of MSDS sheets, and bought a bunch of personal protective equipment. You've got a fume hood, professional supervision, safety shower, and eyewash close at hand. Good. Into a 25 mL graduated cylinder, add 9.63 mL of 32% muriatic acid. You'll not really be able to exactly add this amount to the graduated cylinder, but assuming you have the 0.5 mL subdivisions, just eyeball it to 1/5 of the way between the 9.5 and 10.0 mL mark. When reading liquid levels, always read to the BOTTOM of the meniscus at the top surface of the liquid. Add approximately 500 mL distilled water to your 1000 mL volumetric flask (or 1 liter plastic bottle marked for 1L) (pre-washed 3X with distilled water, remember?) Carefully add the acid from the graduated cylinder to the 500 mL distilled water in the volumetric flask/plastic bottle. *CAREFULLY add 25 mL distilled water to the residual acid in the graduated cylinder to rinse any residual acid and add this rinse to the 1000 mL volumetric flask/plastic bottle. Swirl to mix well, and add additional distilled water to reach 1000 mL final volume. Mark this solution 0.1N HCl. *(NOTE: STRONG ACID SHOULD BE ADDED TO WATER, NEVER ADD WATER TO ANY APPRECIABLE VOLUME OF STRONG ACID). 0.1N HCl is generally not hazardous, but treat it caution and maintain safety as previously detailed. Store the remaining 32% muriatic acid in a secure location inaccessible to children. This stuff is dangerous. --------------------------------- Determining the amount of e-liquid to use: When determining how much e-liquid to use, we'll start by assuming that the supplier is both competent and honest. We will use the mg/mL on the label to find the volume of e-liquid to add to the 250 mL erlenmeyer flask. This volume will correspond to the amount of nicotine at the vendor stated nicotine level that will be exactly neutralized by 25 mL of the 0.1N HCl solution. 25 mL of 0.1N HCl will neutralize exactly 0.0025 moles of a mono-hydroxy base (or of an organic base acting as a mono-hydroxy base). The molecular weight of nicotine is 162.26, so 0.0025 moles of nicotine is: 162.26 grams * 0.0025 = 0.4056 g. We'll just call it 406 mg. So, if you have e-liquid that claims to be 36 mg/mL, you'll want to use: 406mg/(36 mg/mL) = 11.28 mL If your e-liquid claims to be 48 mg/mL, you want to use: 406mg/(48 mg/mL) = 8.46 mL We've now done the math. --------------------------------- Procedure: 1. After 3X rinsing the 25 mL graduated cylinder to make damned sure we have all the concentrated acid out of it from the step where we made the 0.1N acid, add the volume of e-liquid to the graduated cylinder that was determined in the previous section. Again, assuming you have 0.5 mL subdivisions, estimate fractional mL's as best you can. Again, measure to the BOTTOM of the meniscus on the top of the liquid. 2. Add the e-liquid from the graduated cylinder to the 250 mL erlenmeyer flask. rinse the graduated cylinder 3X with equal volumes of distilled water and add each rinse to the erlenmeyer flask such that the total volume of liquid in the erlenmeyer flask is approximately 50 ml. (If you used 12 mL e-liquid, 3 rinses at ~ 12 or 13 mL each should do it). The rinses should be well stirred inside the graduated cylinder (use a clean soda straw) to make sure that none of the viscous e-liquid remains in the graduated cylinder. 3. Add 30 drops aqueous bromothymol blue solution to the e-liquid/distilled water solution in the 250 mL erlenmeyer flask. The color of the solution should be distinctly blue. 4. Rinse the burette 3X by filling it with 0.1N HCl solution, and drain it. Add 0.1N HCl solution to the burette and open the stopcock slowly and allow the meniscus of the acid solution to precisely reach the top mark on the burette (the top is often dual marked as 50 mL and 0 mL, I.E. 50 mL present, 0 mL dispensed). 5. Secure the burette in the burette holder and secure the burette holder to the ringstand (or whatever monstrosity you've cobbled together to hold the burette still). Place the tip of the burette 1 inch above the lip of the erlenmeyer flask containing the nicotine/indicator solution. Also, you should place a sheet of white paper under the erlenmeyer flask to help see the color in the flask clearly. 6. If the e-liquid vendor is correct, it will take 25 mL of the 0.1N acid to complete the titration. Slowly open the stopcock on the burette and establish a flow of approximately 5 mL/minute. 7. As the acid solution drops into the nicotine solution, swirl the erlenmeyer flask to ensure complete mixing. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. SWIRLING MUST BE MAINTAINED. You are looking for the point where you start to see the solution turn a greenish tint from blue. (Wikipedia has a picture of the color change under their bromothymol blue article, refer to it). As soon as the color of the solution has gone to greenish, close the burette stopcock. 8. Re-open the burette stopcock, and allow the 0.1N HCl to drop at a rate of 1 drop every 3 seconds. Continue to swirl the flask until the solution turns from green to yellow and remains yellow. If you overshoot by a few drops, don't worry. The titration is done. 9. Record the volume of 0.1N HCl solution dispensed. --------------------------------- Calculation: mg/mL nicotine in e-liquid: = supplier's claimed mg/mL X (volume 0.1N HCl dispensed in mL / 25 mL) ---------------------------------
  13. I always had a morning cough, not anymore. I also would cough a lot during the day, all gone now. I had horrible sinus problems which I always attributed to seasonal allergies, all gone! My taste buds are in full bloom and I'm finding my taste for things have changed. I used to LOVE Nathan's hot dogs, and could down them like they were going out of style. Now I find they taste too greasy and salty. I guess I never could fully taste them before. I don't find myself out of breath as often either. I haven't started the "lung cleaning" coughing yet, and it has been two months. Not sure if everyone goes through that or not.
  14. It is Monday and I need a kick in the butt to get moving. That means COFFEE liquid!
  15. Some of my favorites: Vapor Talk - Dulcis and Exotic Tobacco. Dulcis is an interesting twist on RY4 that I really enjoy and Exotic Tobacco is the only tobacco based flavor I will vape these days. Both are excellent! Bestecig.com - This is a Chinese company that makes their own juice. They are one of the few Chinese places where you can get 36mg. Their Cream flavor makes an awesome base for mixing. I also really like their version of RY4 and Flue Cured Tobacco. They also make the hailed BE112 Low Bridge atty. Cignot.com - Pretty good pricing, Dekang liquids. I love their Pepsi flavor. Very close to the real thing. They also offer a LOT of VG based liquids for those who don't enjoy PG. One of the few vendors that does this. Ecigsmokestore.com - Everyone should know Dawn, and if you don't, now is the time. She makes some of the most amazing juice around. Her Cinnamon Roll has a permanent place in my juice kit that goes to work with me each day. Her prices are higher than some, but the quality is amazing. A MUST TRY. She also stocks a ton of supplies for people wanting to try to make their own juice. mist-stix.com - Best juice prices outside of China, hands down. Use the "ECF" code to enjoy 30ml bottles for $9.00. Also, this juice isn't Dekang, but is very good. I love their 555 and Peach. My GF smokes their Camel. They also offer $2.95 shipping, which is a great deal. Vendors I would avoid: Totally Wicked - Prices are just way too high for Chinese juice. There has also been a lot of testing on their 36mg juices that showed that the juice was 27-29mg. Questionable practices, questionable management of their forums, and censorship of posts with people having issues. Makes this a company I would avoid.
  16. If you need some juice at a really low price, check www.mist-stix.com. I buy some of my base liquid from them for mixing and the price is unbeatable. $9.00 per 30ml with the other board's discount code. It's a chinese juice, but it is still good in a pinch and very affordable. And they only charge $2.95 for shipping.
  17. Arg! I can send ya some home brew juice man! Don't let the analogs get ya.
  18. Sunday morning. Cup of hot coffee and an atty loaded with Dulcis. It's gonna be a good day
  19. PG does help with throat hit. I'm not sure if it is the fact that VG tones it down or PG helps deliver it, but I always get a better hit on PG bases. VG is good for vapor but you dont need much. If you don't mind mixing, one trick I use is to order a PG based liquid and then add a bit of everclear/VG to it. I keep a 135ml bottle of 50/50 everclear/VG mix on hand and add about 2 drops per ML of PG liquid. It will drop the nic % by 10% (turning 36mg into 33mg roughly), but it will give a bit more vapor without making the juice too thick or losing throat hit. The everclear/VG mix is also great for cleaning the flavor from an atty. Just direct drip the mix and vape for a while. I remove menthol this way if I need to re-task an atty for a new flavor.
  20. My taste has definitely returned from the grave as well. I have tried flavors a second time and found them more agreeable as well. Always circle back later on something you didn't like, you might be suprised. Tonight the better half and I are watching some Dexter and I am vaping my special Carmel Hazelnut Coffee blend. Just the right thing for a nice relaxing Friday night.
  21. It is definitely a good vape. Its very rich though, not something I can vape all day. Moobyghost did a review of it that turned me on to it, and he was right on the money. They sell their flavors in 3ml trial sizes if you are interested in testing some. They are all pretty excellent so far.
  22. It's Friday, which means celebrating another week gone by and the weekend coming up. So I packed a few special flavors today for work. I started this morning on my peach mix and now I'm over to French Toast by Juicy Liquids. Amazingly close to the real thing!
  23. Pina Colada will definately be a good buy for those who enjoy fruity vapes. It is a great flavor. I'm actually back on it right now. I'd be all about some Peanut Butter if you ever perfected the liquid how you want it. I've tried about five different PB liquids so far, nothing has nailed it quite right yet. I've been really pleased with the VT liquids. I could go on and on about Dulcis and Exotic Tobacco. They are "close" to other flavors, but they do it better. I've always loved RY4, but Dulcis just has that "something extra" that makes it stand out.
  24. I've really been wanting to get started on doing video reviews, but I'm still learning the process. So I thought I'd give the written review style a shot. I'm probably not the best writer, but I will just have to make do. Please keep in mind that I am from Indiana originally, and do not hold a degree in English, so you may get some country in this review. I took advantage of the sale Chris was having to pick up a few new flavors of VT liquid that I hadn't seen offered before. Now that they have arrived I figured I'd sit down with each of them and get cozy. So here is my attempt at a review of these new flavors! Vapor Talk - Pina Colada, 24mg: Opening the bottle, the smell reminds me of Lorann's fruit punch with a little something extra. More fruity than I expected. It has a pleasant aroma though. Vaping it definitely reminds me of a fruity drink. There is pineapple there, but I don't notice much coconut. It does have a little of a mango taste to it as well. I've yet to vape a coconut flavor, so the taste I am getting could be the artificial reproduction of coconut. It leaves a very nice aftertaste that reminds me of a summer by the pool. Vapor production is good on an 801. It isn't billowing clouds of vapor, and is probably a PG base with no VG added. Good vapor though, and smells nice. Throat hit is decent. Being a 36mg vaper I notice a difference when I am vaping 24mg or lower. A direct inhale provided a good solid throat hit. Curiously, the vapor is warm, unlike the other VT liquids I have tried. Reminds me slightly of Juicy Liquids. Almost all of their liquids seem to have a warm, almost wet, vapor. I'm guessing they are adding water to their PG in their reduced PG mixes. Who knows. All in all, I'd give this a 8 out of 10. It wasn't the flavor I was expecting, but it is a very tasty vape. I can see myself using this on occasion when I'd like something fruity. It delivers on that very well. Vapor Talk - Peanut Butter, 24mg: Let me start this by saying I'm a peanut butter addict. I eat it right from the jar when I can get away with it. Anything peanut butter gets my attention. I've vaped Dekang peanut butter flavor and liked it mostly. It had an earthy undertone to it that I could have done without though. The liquid has a faint peanut smell. I'd expect something a little stronger, but it could be the fruit still lingering in my nose! Vaping it definitely reminds me of Dekang peanut butter. But, it is much sweeter I think. There is definitely a sweetness when inhaling that I don't recall being in the Dekang juice. It could be a bit stronger though I think. The peanut flavor is there, it is just light. There is also a slight tobacco taste which could be from the base. I like it, but I'm a flavor person and I need that strong taste. Vapor production is very good. Nice large clouds of vapor compared to the Pina Colada. It also has a nice smell to it. It has a good throat hit. Not "reckless", but good. Direct inhale led to a solid throat hit and a hint of additional flavor and sweetness. It might be better to use this liquid in that manner, oddly enough. Overall, this one gets a 7 of 10. I'd give it a 9 of 10 if it had a flavor boost. It was good, just a little bland. I might mix this with some cocoa if it was a bit stronger as well! Side Note: The juice actually has a great aftertaste. Stronger than the vape itself. Definitely sweet and pea-nutty! Vapor Talk - Cocoa, 24mg: First off, the liquid is almost odorless. I'm not smelling anything like cocoa or chocolate. But, since this is a cocoa flavor, I expect it to be subdued. If it was chocolate, I'd expect something stronger. Like the peanut butter, this one is very tame. There is a hint of sweet and I do notice some cocoa flavor, but not enough to satisfy my American taste buds. I'd wager this is a Chinese take on cocoa. It even has that slightly biter taste you would expect from a real cocoa, which I actually like. I think most people would find that a negative. I think when people think cocoa, they think chocolate. The two are very different. It does need a slight jolt in the flavor department though. Very good vapor, like the peanut butter. And very pleasant smelling. Good throat hit, nothing too major. It delivers what I would expect for a 24mg juice. Direct inhale delivers a very strong hit, more than I expected actually. But it is still smooth and pleasant. I'd give the cocoa a 7 of 10. Like the peanut butter, this would be far higher with more flavor. It is just a tad tame. All in all, I like all three. I'll probably ramp the last two up a bit with some Lorann's and a little VG. I think they are good where they are, but some more flavor would put them over the top. Thanks for reading, hopefully it wasn't too boring!
