  1. LOL--My son was talking about going to the midnight showing too. Has his own place near college--so no clue when he gets home !!! I Think he sleeps through most of his classes on a good day.
  2. using a pair of tweezers I just pulled the filler out. I figured I at the most I would lose the cartomizer, but no damage done. putting the blue foam in was a bit trickier. I cut the 1x1cm square in half and gently pushed the foam in along each side of the coil, making sure it wasn't packed in tight. then placed a 1x1cm square loosely over the top of the coil. when I was filling I just dripped in 15 drops a little at a time to let absorb. working great so far.......
  3. After 16 months of vaping--carts, atomizers and fillers have been the biggest challenge. Just thought I would share some of my opinions. Key word--opinion. The straw mod and Pyramid Tea Bag mod became obsolete for me with blue foam. I know this post is really, really long-- carts, cartomizers and dripping all put together is a long subject. using 510 atomizers, 510 battery, Ego, VP/passthrough, 5V passthrough. carts with standard filler--works well for a couple days then I switch out to the blue foam. replacement for standard filler--fluval 2 plus aquarium filter. The 2 plus is closest to standard filler and can be found at many pet shops. ____ Blue Foam In the last 16 months I have tried soooo many different cart fillers and cart mods with varying degrees of success. I got some blue foam filler (pre-cut) from strictly e-juice--took me a bit to figure out what to do with these tiny bits of foam. as it didn't come with directions. The Blue foam Works!!! 1. The blue foam filler pieces are 1cm x 1cm and 1/2 cm deep. 2. best to have a cart that fits snuggly on the atty. 3. filled an empty (510) cart with 12 drops of liquid. 4. Using tweezers, I pushed the foam into the liquid to saturate it, filled the cart with another couple drops of liquid. 5. using the tweezers, pulled the foam back to the top of the cart (level with rim). 6. added another drop to the top of the foam 7. attach to atty and vape. The blue foam keeps the liquid from leaking out of the cart/atty, but wicks great to the atty. keeps the atty nice and moist. no leaking. This has significantly decreased my need to drip and/or top off the carts. With Moderate Vaping, the carts are lasting me 2-3 hours without adding more liquid. When I do refill, I push the filler down into the cart, add the liquid, pull the filler back up, top off and vape Wash or change the filler every couple days. ---- Catomizers: I am new to cartomizers (about a month)-- For me The flavor is off. Filled the carto using the condom method with 20 drops of liquid. The condom method is so easy and painless. Good vapor production and throat hit, but the flavor is muted with the standard white filler. I vape for about 2-3 hours before I feel the need to add a bit more liquid. The vapor production starts to slow down. Since I can never leave things alone--after a couple days I pulled out the white filler and replaced with blue foam. Much better !!! 2 pieces of blue foam and a drip tip. filled with 15 drops added drip tip--lasts about 2 hours before I need to add a couple more drops. _____ With carts(blue foam) and cartomizers There is always the need to add more liquid after a couple hours for me. I know there is plenty of liquid in the cart/carto but I am usually vaping more often and the liquid doesn't really have enough time to wick to the atty. If I let it sit for 10-15 minutes--the liquid wicks to the atty and I don't have to add liquid as often. ______ Of course, then there is dripping. Which over all provides the best flavor, vapor production and throat hit. usually add 2 drops at a time. good for about 6 or so draws before adding more liquid ________ 1. Carts with standard filler---good for a day or two. add more liquid every couple hours. usually just top off the cart. usually just pull out filler and add blue foam. don't even bother with the white filler. 2. Carts with Blue foam--still my personal favorite. Good vapor and throat hit. carts hold about .5ml of liquid. usually have to top off the carts every 2-3 hours. Great for times when dripping isn't convenient. change or clean foam every couple days. 3. Cartomizers with standard filler--lose too much flavor. weaker throat hit, good vapor. last about 2-3 hours before I feel the need to add more liquid. 4. Cartomizers with blue foam/drip tip-- much better flavor. Good vapor and throat hit. add more liquid after couple hours. easier to add liquid with a drip tip, but can leak if drip tip is placed down. 5. Dripping--best flavor, vapor production and throat hit. add more liquid 3-4 times/hour. 6. Atomizer/cart(blue foam) vs cartomizer(blue foam)-- 50/50. will probably stick with atomizers--currently longer life. Jury still out on life of cartomizers (haven't been using them long enough). for me--atomizer life is about a month or two. have a couple that are 8 months old. usually have about 6 atomizers in rotation and have 2-3 units in use through out the day--Ego, and a couple passthroughs. I am sure I will rotate through carts, cartomizers and dripping--like to change things up, get bored with same routines. For me the best filler is the blue foam from strictly ejuice. Need to take another look through the aquarium filters. None of the ones I found were quite the same. Looking forward to other opinions !!!! Happy vaping
  4. Excellent choice with the tornado, You will be amazed at the difference. !!! your right--the PCC does offer alternative charging--especially if traveling. (adds to the list....) Also good to have a car/USB adapter--can charge in the car if needed. great for using with passthroughs.
  5. Hey Silent...... The 510 or Ego vs Blu---no contest. The 510-- is much, much better than the blu. Better throat hit and vapor production. is thin like the blue and has the LED at the tip. The biggest draw back is battery life (compared to the ego). Any of the slimmer units will have short battery life. But other than battery life, it is a great unit if you need something that looks more like a cigarette. The Ego--uses the 510 atomizers and is still 3.7 V (same power as the 510)--but the battery life is significantly longer than the standard 510 batteries. the 650mah will last 6-8 hours (for me) and the 900mah (bit bigger battery) will last me all day. No LED. The Ego is the best overall if you don't have to have something that looks like a cigarette. I highly recommend the ego as a great place to start !!! I love my Ego. as far as liquid strength goes--it really depends on how many mgs you are using. for me I use 18 mg-- PG liquid = 3 drops=.1mg (30 drops/ml)---3 drops = 1.8mg. VG liquid = 2 drops/.1ml (20 drops/ml). However, I don't really worry about it any more--I use anywhere between 8mg and 18mg liquids-- I figure I use about 1.5 -2 mls/day = 27-36 mg/day. I smoked at least 30 cigarettes/day. I am using about the same amount of nicotine as when I smoked. Personally, I vote for the Ego... Happy vaping
  6. For me: Dry has a bit of a burnt taste Flooded--I know It isn't dry, but weak hit change or clean filler every few days (carts/cartomizers) Personal preference is blue foam (when not dripping) 1. I try not to let my atty over heat. I let it cool after a couple draws or alternate between two units if I am vaping alot. 2. every 2-3 days I let my atty drain. Using the corner of a papertowel or kleenex, twist and gently push into the open end of the atty and let sit over night. (make sure to reprime before use) 3. When all else fails--I check the atomizer or battery with a multimeter--trust me, if I can use a multimeter--anybody can (510 atty and batt) here we go..first set your meter to 200 OHM the touch the red probe to the black probe and you should get a reading of 00.0 if you dont and you get something like 00.2 just subtract the # from the reading you will get from the atty. Ok put the RED probe into the small hole on the battery side and the Black probe into the small hole on the SIDE of the atty or on the thread you should get a reading of 2.2 - 2.9 thats a good strong atty if you get anything above 3.2 send it back..lol the lower the # the better Now the battery is done the same way EXCEPT set the meter 20v in the DCV section RED to the metal (Dent) on the battery or if you have a Mega just put it on the end that connects with the atty and the Black try and put it on the little gold band You will need to have someone hold down the batt switch while testing(or be coordinated) ..A half charged battery should read 3.6 - 4.2.
  7. The Tornado is a great unit, you won't be disappointed. do you already have 510 atomizers or cartomizers??? have you decided on any particular flavors?? Just curious.....
  8. There is always the next order......
  9. http://www.liberty-flights.com/products.asp Liberty-Flights also accepts paypal--not sure about the cartomizers though.
  10. I love that video !!! Thanks for reposting it.
  11. Congratulations !!! You will be soooooo happy with the ego. It really does perform miracles. If you run into questions, just ask, we love to help and really, really want this to work for you. waiting is the hardest part.
  12. It is so good to hear some positive views !!!! Thank you so much for posting that
  13. sorry Hodge---no help. I finally just broke down and got some of the regular 510 cartos--for me, jury is still out.....
  14. I'm glad they will give you a refund. I'm glad you are looking around. If you have more questions, please feel free to ask--we really want this to work for you !!! The 510 really is a great place to start until you get a feel for things. If the automatic is what you really need--go for it. If you think you can deal with the manual--it is better overall. keep looking--finding the right unit really does make all the difference. If you run across something you are not sure about, just ask. Somebody will have an answer !!!
  15. Its always a good reminder for ourselves. As parents we have moments of clarity with our kids--I am mostly surprised that both my children survived to adulthood. Its amazing some of the stupid things I did when they were young--working night, sleep deprivation and raising children is not always a good combination. I am glad your daughter is ok--and it really is a good reminder. Thank you for sharing that !!
  16. I don't even know what to say...................
  17. Blu--NO !! I have heard lots of negative feed back on the blu. Just not enough power and service is ify. The volcano, I have heard a few good things, mostly don't know enough about it. The only problem would be limited replacement and would still have the same battery problems. the smaller, slimmer units will all have shorter battery life. the PCC (charging case) will help out--can always have one charging. the 510 is a much more universal unit--can buy parts from any of the suppliers. most if not all carry 510 parts. Most also carry the charging case. If you don't absolutely need something that looks like a cigarette--would hands down, look at the ego. I really love mine. I started with the 510, but love the ego.
  18. I smoked about 30+/day for about 30 years. I think it might actuallly be the liquid you have. sounds unpleasant. They really aren't usually unpleasant. your best bet would be to try some 5 or 10ml sizes in different flavors. sometimes takes a bit to find the right flavors. I love the fruit flavors and a lot of the coffee flavors. flavor is very subjective. I really like DIY Flavor shack, freedomsmokeusa, wordup-- I have had very good luck with all these suppliers. You can look at the suppliers list -- we have a great group of suppliers. The 510's are more cigarette like, but the battery life is pretty sad. a brand new battery would last about 4 hours, but the time decreases quickly. The Ego is only a bit bigger and feel a bit heavier initially--but you get used to it very, very fast. Hit for hit--I am about the same as when I smoked. with vaping, I have it near me or in my hand all the time--but instead of stopping to smoke a cigarette, I just take a hit when the urge hits me. I'm not a particularily heavy vaper. 18 mg is actually kind of middle of the road. you definately need to find a different flavor and maybe try 12mg.
  19. With the fluval--2 plus works best for standard filler type material. but as far as the blue foam goes--I haven't found a really good alternative ( I have looked) to the stuff sold by strictly ejuice--fairly inexpensive. When looking at the fluval, there are many, many types and textures. make sure you look inside the box. mixing does take a bit of patience and practice. Need some PG or VG, nicotine based liquid and some flavoring. tons of info in the diy section. DIY flavor shack or freedom smoke usa are great places to start.
  20. the 510 is a good place to start for most people. personally, the automatics were a bit of a pain. liquid can get into the battery and cause damage. I don't know if they have improved at all or not. The manual batteries seem a bit foreign at first--but very easy to get used to. I prefer being able to control my draw. overall the manual batteries seem to be much more durable. my automatic battery stopped working after the first week. Many suppliers sell the 510's and the PCC (charging case). Now, that being said--the ego/tornado is a bit bigger, but the battery life is significantly longer than the 510. a standard ego battery lasts me 8-10 hours, the 510 would last 1-2 hours. The ego does use the 510 atomizers--great for throat hit and vapor production. As far as liquids go, that is very subjective. I smoked Marlboro lights and I prefer 18 mg--strength of the liquid doesn't always correlate to what and how much you smoked. couple options: you can buy a lower nicotine liquid and mix them to get a lower overall strength use flavoring to improve the current liquid you have and lower the nic strength. DIY flavor shack or freedom smoke usa sell flavorings. buy some plain PG or VG liquid (0) nicotine and use that to dilute the liquid you already have.
  21. Flavors are the fun part. I have used liberty flights, rocky mountain vapor, wordup and freedom smoke usa. oh ya and DIY flavorshack. Honestly , I have been very fortunate and haven't had any truly bad flavors. Currently I mostly make my own or alter any premixed flavors. I like the fruity flavors and some of the coffee flavors. The fun part is trying new flavors.
  22. Good catch on that one Lori !!! Congrats to FT, very glad you have made it through the year.
  23. http://www.vaportalk.com/forum/forum/forum/topic/7308-how-to-direct-drip/ This is a video on direct dripping. yes, its dripping to the bridge of the atomizer. usually it helps with the harsh throat hit and better flavor. can be used in combination with carts. be patient with the learning curve, There is alot of tips and tricks to learn, but I promise, it is so worth it !!!
