Welcome. I've been using the Ego-C since it first came out a few months back. Have some patience, as there is a bit of a learning curve to using a tank system, but overall I'm satisfied with it (at least for now). I'm by no means an expert, but if you have any questions, I'll do by best to help.

I started with a 510, and the main problem is that the batteries don't last long. Especially if your a heavy user. You would get 2-3 hours max out of a 510 with heavy use. The Ego lasts me all day without a recharge. As for the size of the ego, it's no worse than a large fountain pen. It's actually smaller than some fountain pens I've seen. I have no experience with the volt, so I can't comment on it.

I would recommend the eGo type-b kit for any starter...it lasts very long and its quality made plus you don't have to fiddle with everything so much.
