Hey - we're all not smoking, right? I wanted to go 0 nic to try and get my blood pressure and health back as good as it can be. Plus I can pay much less for my life insurance, change of status: non-smoker!!! Worst part about 0 nic is I liked vaping, but now it really doesn't happen unless I make it, even the mental addiction gave up on me (I'm not loved!). Even sitting here on the board talking about it, I think my spade is in my jacket pocket and I'm too lazy to get it. As stupid as it seems, I just got a whole bunch of 0 nic flavors from Janty. Why?

Check back often even if you don't have issues, successes are welcome for discussion here as well!!!! Since you will have three extra attys, you should definitely be covered if something goes wrong but you should think about more eventually. It's kind of the tempermental working slob of the setup. I think the gold band attys are the best, I've gotten them at TotallyWicked in the 5 packs. I think the store here carries them sometimes and I think dietsmokes. Been talked about before, search is your friend. I see many people jumped in to help so I would just point out most juices come in all strengths so get a low one to mix the high with if it's too high. Cutting with VG is okay as well but you'll cut the flavor also (sometimes that's good).

Could be too much nic. That's the one thing we really can't do very well with this, gauge how much we are getting. I vaped much more than I smoked, but started cutting the nic down after a little bit. I started at 24mg but made sure I vaped pretty much each time I would have smoked. Still went outside even at home, etc. Once I stared cutting it down, I started vaping more but figured I was safe. Having said that, there are some here doing 48mg...

I guess we forget until we have them, how stupid kids really can be!!!

Welcome!! Yes, a couple of weeks to get used to it. Lee is right on about your body finally getting a chance to get rid of a bunch of stuff. I went through all sorts of weirdness never being sure what was due to vaping or not. Feel fantastic now!!! I would say if you still have a strong urge you might indeed have to bump up the nic. Having said that, I found with myself that most of the urge was mental but I did need to have a blast of nic else I became crabby. In other words, your brain knows that smoking gets you want it wants, vaping is a substitute and makes the addicted brain happy. If you deprive it of the required nicotine, I don't think the brain really knows that is happening so you wouldn't feel the effects of the nicotine withdrawal as an urge to smoke, more as symptoms of withdrawal, crabby, headaches, etc. But what do I know, I'm not a doctor, I only play one on TV... ;-) Is there something fundamentally different about smoking and vaping for you that you can pinpoint? Smoke is not hot, not enough, doesn't feel like smoke, don't get the massive drag you used to? Taste was very important to me being a menthol smoker. Try the VaporTalk juices, I used Mentha, I hear many love the others as well. By the way, the coughing if due to nicotine is prized by most as it is one of the triggers that makes the brain think it is smoking, I'm at 0 nic so I'm out of luck. :-( Remember, if you get a 24/36 and it's too much, you can cut by mixing with a lower strength.

Congrats Nana!!! Not for nothing, but I did try a couple weeks into quitting. It actually worked out good for me. I wasn't worried about falling back to cigarettes as vaping was just fine for me, but I did want to see if I would get lightheaded. So I bummed one, happened to be my brand (MLB Menthol Lights), lit it, sucked it into my mouth and almost threw up. So this is what licking an ashtray is like, WOW!! It never got into my lungs, took a while to rinse the taste out. So while I wouldn't recommend it to others, that's when I knew I better stock up on parts, chargers and juice because there was no way I could go back to smoking. Still trying to figure out all those years ago how I got past that first taste...

Welcome - I was very frustrated at first as well with the 510. These guys helped out a ton. I went to a direct drip and that was great, really seemed to solve many of my problems. Next went to another model, had some issues after a while and finally went back to the 510. Direct dripping IMO is a pain so in the spirit of too much information, I now use something called a PTB mod. Instead of that weird filler in the cartridge, you roll up part of a special teabag and I think it makes it so much easier!! But before we get there, get comfortable with the 510 first. ;-)

I thought this was supposed to be a healthier alternative!!! ;-)

I remember as a smoker, I couldn't stand it (even though I knew they were right) when people tried to tell me I had to quit. I know it, its not a mystery but it was also none of their damn business. I wouldn't be surprised to have people have the same attitude about someone converting to vaping. I answer questions if asked, I'm menthol but now at parties I usually have some non-menthol if someone wants to try. I'm setting up a test kit for a few people with a bunch of regular and light flavors that said they would try it. Had to promise they would get the batts, atts and juices back to me once they figured out if it could work or not. Two friends still have stuff of mine and are still "trying it". Also have a "fact sheet" for the newbie that goes along with it, websites, starter info, etc.

Totally agree - I think one of the issues of the studies they did do is they are old and didn't quite study it at the levels we inhale. Just wish we had some good current studies. I wouldn't doubt the tobacco/pharm industry did some, didn't find any issues and so didn't publish!!! Well, maybe that's a little too conspiracy theory... I insist, with no basis in fact whatsoever, this is safer than smoking!!!! ;-) That's what I usually tell folks. My biggest concerns are the liquids and parts from China. Look at the news today, they stopped putting lead in the toys, went for cadmium instead, even more dangerous. Who wouldn't want a little more quality control and safety addressed with this even if it bumped the cost up? Too bad the only thought of the government is how to ban it as opposed to make it safe, you can't tell me someone doesn't have money behind that. Some assemblywoman from NJ a little while back started up on banning it, I figured she got some nice money dumped in her election coffers.

I gave up my 510s for a Janty Stick for battery life. Thought it was great, then a bunch of problems ensued (seemed constantly clogged was the worst). I got some attys from the VT store but never tried cranking it up again (have the spade now) and 510s as a backup. The form was pretty compact though, could easily pocket it. Maybe I'll crank it up again and have that as a backup. Guess I would have to do a PTB mod for the 801 cart...

Happened to run across this thread (I was busy when it started) and wanted to point out there can be a world of difference between ingesting something via the stomach versus the lungs. Many things can go into the stomach that just shouldn't be introduced via the lungs. And personally I am more worried about what isn't absorbed into the bloodstream and might be left on the lungs. The lungs are a very sensitive area, damage is more often not reparable. This is one reason I was hoping to cut down on vaping after cutting down on the nicotine. We can not be sure of the effects of this because as far as I know, there aren't any really good studies out there. Just wanted to point that out as I wouldn't use it as defacto argumemt this is safe. Having said all that, do I believe this is a much safer alternative than smoking? Absolutely. Can I prove its safe, or at least safer? Absolutely not. This is one reason I always felt I wouldn't mind the FDA/FTC getting involved without the Big Industry money trying to direct them to kill this industry.

New To Subject, Trying To Figure It All Out!

Hi Arcangel - I'm sending you a private message. Maybe I can help a little with some liquids. -
Obviously all cables should be put away, but I figure the voltage and amps are pretty low on a USB. Based on the article, looks like there is some doubt there as well as they have an electrician going through the house. Granted, a mouth makes a good conductor but that's a lot of damage.
-
FWIW - I've tried a lot of menthol and in the process, have a bunch of various kinds at different strengths including 0 nic. I plan on documenting what I have and offering them up in the buy, sell trade section. I'll pay for the shipping, and they are used. Here's me rambling on about it last night. http://www.vaportalk.com/forum/forum/index.php?/topic/3340-new-to-subject-trying-to-figure-it-all-out/page__view__findpost__p__27242 Purpose is to let folks try some of the flavors before buying, they do me no good, I have it down to what I like now and I'm also at 0 nic and none of my peeps that I'm trying to convert are menthol smokers.

Got it - now only hungover so it makes sense. But what are the "two little liquid catcher pieces"? Something visible on the cart?

New To Subject, Trying To Figure It All Out!
FTJoe replied to arcangel742's topic in New Vapers Forum
no no no - okay, yes, you should not have been in Leah's thread (that's we call it). Okay, Brian has it exactly right, I am teasing and the reason I called you out was you need a thread of your own!!! I really wouldn't have felt comfortable posting info to you in Leah's thread. I'l bet she wouldn't have minded, but again as Brian points out, that thread is a little old and you deserve your very own. So as far as equipment goes, my opinion is a 510. If I may be so bold, awesomevapor or wordup. I believe both offer liquid with the starter kits. Always have a backup battery and atomizer. As far as menthol goes. My wife is a stickler, and right now for her I mix a combination of ecopure menthol, Janty polar mint and Johnson Creek arctic Menthol. For me, I needed something that was a killer, didn't have to be "just like" my marlboro menthol lights. The absolute best was VaporTalk Mentha (no I am not a plant), after that, Janty Polar mint. I have to say, wordup had okay menthols, awesomevapor was pretty good. I could have cared less about the tobacco taste, I think what did it for me was the really big menthol hit. Now before you go crazy ordering, bear in mind VaporTalk and Janty are strong!!!! It really is a matter of taste. At this point in time, I have settled on a mix of VaporTalk Mentha and Johnson Creek Arctic (also sometimes Johnson Creek mint chocolate). I know this is getting complicated, but that's ny fault. I'm using past tense a lot because I went 0 nic a while back. PTL, Chris here at VT has 0 nic Mentha, I bought a bunch and I believe I will buy some more!!! I assume you are not going to be 0 nic, if you are okay with it, PM me and I can get you a BUNCH of menthol flavors to try, they have nicotine so I can't enjoy them anymore. Actually I would love to finish them but my goal was 0 nic and I didn't do a very good job of depleting my inventory before I got to zero nic. I have everything I referenced, wordup marlboro menth, mighty menth, camelmenth, vaportalk mentha, Johnson Creek arctic (low nic - 11), janty arctic (I think), ecopure varieties. Entirely up to you, I believe in sharing so I wouldn't even give you the whole bottle, I have a bunch of the 3ml bottles sitting around, it would be a sampler. This offer goes for anyone else as well. I am collecting a bunch of non-menthol flavors for my friends to try, point is, none of my friends are menthol smokers so to my family here at VT I offer my menthol supply. Trust me, it's just a taste. In fact, the more I think of it, I'll post this up in the buy, sell and trade area...but you get first dibs. I also have sealed carts with menthol but no idea where they came from so they are useless in trying to figure out if it was something you would want to get going forward. By the way, if this tech stuff is a little beyond you and the PM (private message) abbreviation is a little weird, say so and I'll PM you first. After that, it'll be obvious what to do. -
If you look through my posts you'll see this: I got a 510, love it having problems with the 510 love vaportalk, they got me through the problems got a jantystick for the battery, love it having problems with the jantystick love vaportalk, they got me through the problems still having problems with 801 attys, trying my old 510 equipment the wife is using, can't figure out why I gave up the 510 bought tons of regular and mega 510 batts and gold band attys from wicked on their 30% sale bought a spade and finally found bliss...and it's really what I started with, the 510 (with a kick butt presentation and attitude) having posted all that, if you have any questions on the JantyStick, let us know. The low bridge attys are a must

May I add that I just got a really wicked cold. Started Sunday, peaked on Tuesday, still have a bad nose, etc. One year ago, this would have blown out into pneumonia/bronchitis. Now, simply a cold. Got to love not having my lungs crippled.

Must see a pic or a vid...something? Description is good, but orange stoly is preventing me from understanding!!! ;-)

Tired Of Research...someone Tell Me What To Order!
FTJoe replied to leah's topic in New Vapers Forum
Hey Leah (and arcangel). Always, have extra batts and attys around in case there is an issue. And as long as you're doing nicotine, no worries about messing up and going analogue (real cigs). Figure out what was wrong and fix it, no probs. I was curious after reading the intro if we are of the same ilk as smokers. Curious if you're thinking of getting down to no nicotine. Here's my story: http://www.vaportalk.com/forum/forum/index.php?/topic/3278-saw-this-and-thought-id-share-with-all-of-you/page__view__findpost__p__26655 Anyway, to answer the questions, love the 510 and pyramid tea bag mods. Nice easy way to use all the juice and refill very easily. I find I can only use the method Cignot.com uses to create the filler. If interested let me know but the mods section have all sorts of info on it. I will update my entry with howto do the cignot method (very simple) if you want. Arcangel - start your own intro if you would, we won't bite, we swear. I was a Marlboro menthol light smoker as well. Have plenty of advice but this is Leah's thread. -

Ya - as I said, I'm kind of out of my knowledge area here. Too many assumptions, best guesses, the Psychs don't all agree and I know I don't know. That's a great phrase by the way on so many levels... "I'm always in an altered state of mind and yet I still have freewill." -

No it doesn't justify it, nor does it make it criminal. My point was, any child lured away or who mistakenly give up their address has the parents as complicit because they should have known the risks of the internet, of course not? Ignorance of the law is no excuse but I think you miss my point, a layperson can not, nor would be expected to be able to, as you suggest, gauge the ability of a child to be able to fend for themselves on the wild internet. All laws have to have a test, my point was I believe the parents would have to realize their child couldn't handle it and the bottom line, unless they were treating her, they couldn't. If I pick a penny up only to find out it triggered a death by tripping a switch, am I guilty of anything? Of course not, I was ignorant I was causing a death, not ignorant that murder is a crime. -
Saw This And Thought I'd Share With All Of You

I can't believe I find myself defending the fed gov lately, that is so not me...but, in it's purest form, they do do good things. I wouldn't mind if the juice was tested and regulated, products confirmed not having lead, etc. I agree what they are currently doing so smacks of lobbyists and kickbacks it simply reeks. FDA, FTC I don't care who. The fact that they are still almost promoting cigarettes would be a joke if so many people weren't dying from them. But you also can't give up those tax dollars to quickly either!! Very sad. -

I got it, my apologies. I just do not agree there is criminality involved on the part of the parents. Stupidity, yes, but many other parents are out there being just as reckless with their children. I think to apply the reasonable care, they have to understand the risks.
