Spred sheets and graphs, are you trying to take Igors place? lol No I don't have any Rayon. I would be willing to take donations of any wicking materal that is not listed though.
-
Oh Cool that would be awesome... Thanks Tam, do you want me to wait till I'm all done or do it as get each of the tests are done.

So, since this seems to have morphed into a larger project than a couple cotton pads, I thought I would give a list of what I'm going to be testing and doing a few more tests on. 3 Types of Japanese Cotton pads (Extra tests than what I have already done) 5 types of Hemp cord (Natural Untreated) De-gummed Hemp (Natural Untreated) Organic Cotton Balls (Studio 35 Beauty - Walgreens Brand) Peaches and Cream yarn 100% Cotton Wicking Cord (No Zinc Core) 100% Cotton String Silica (Extra tests than the one I have already done) SS Mesh (500) I spent most of the night getting things ready and will start the tests tomorrow. This will take some time so keep checking back. The only thing I wish is that I could edit the first post and add them all in one post. This way you wouldn't have to search the whole thread for the information.

LMAO @ Bebop Good Igor... All good suggestions. I have been out all day and just got back. There is a lot suggestions to go through. I may or may not get to them all, but I would welcome any assistance Igor. Thanks to who did change the title. I figured someone would see it eventually Tam. No worry. As far as weighing them, I don't have a scale that would measure that small of weight accurately. I wish I did because that could tell us a lot about how much liquid was absorbed. @ Bepob I can rig up a 10 second test. Also putting it in a coil can be done. Anyway yes you gave me some work to do Bebop.

Tam Can you please change the title of this thread to " What Wick Should I Use? Lets Find Out!" I think it would make more sense with me adding other wicking options to the testing.

Silica wicking test These wicks were added to VG, PG and a 50/50 blend all at the same time. Test setup After 5 min After 10 min After 15min test is ended 100% VG 100% PG ( This one surprised me a lot. It was at the top of the 1 1/2in wick I had cut in about 10min. I may do just this over with a 2in cut and see if the same thing happens.) 50/50 PG/VG Blend Overall not bad, I did not expect the Silica to do this well. Seems to be the best at wicking an equal to higher PG to VG blend
-
I think adding the others will be interesting as well. I have about 7 different wicking options I can test.
-
It was worth mentioning it again. I should have added it to the overall anyway. I'll be testing yours in a 3 way test when the pads arrive.
-
I mentioned that in the last line of each test. They both used the exact same amount as far as I could tell in all three tests. I checked the level that was left over in the bottle and they were equal in all tests.
-
Third test results using PG50/50VG Blend: These wicks were dropped at the same time in these bottles. The bottles have the exact same amount of 50/50 with Green food coloring added. After 10min in the 50/50 blend, Wicking is faster than the 100% VG almost the same to the 100% PG. The MUJI on the left looks as though it is wicking better, but is wicking unevenly. Test ended after 15min in the 50/50 blend MUJI KGD Side by Side This test was almost even but the Muji wicked a little more unevenly than the KGD, The two wicks I feel are fairly even in the 50/50 test I do think the KGD did wick more evenly further up the wick. My conclusion is that the KGD is better at wicking when it comes to 50/50, but not by much. With the KDG wicking 1/8 inch more than the MUJI before the uneven wicking began, Agin I have give KGD a better rating at wicking thinner E-Liquids. Both the MUJI and the KDG wicked the exact same amount of PG into the wick. So, one is not wicking more fluid than the other, both were equal in this last test as well. Overall I don't think you can go wrong with either brand. I do feel the KDG did somewhat better at wicking more evenly when wicking the liquid from one end. I think this has to do with the fibers being more parallel to each other as shown in the last image in the first post. I think this also why iy had a tendancy to wick more evenly as well. I don't think this would make much difference when laying horizontal in a RDA or bottom feed RTA. I do think that either one will work well in a RBA Tank. Earthling is sending a 3d brand of Japanese Cotton pads for me to do this test on. They are comparable in price to the MUJI pads. This has sparked my interest in doing some other style of wicks as well. I do not have any ceramic material so they will not be done by me unless someone wants to send me a small sample. I personally do not have any plans in buying any. I will do the other style wicks in single tests and post them in this thread. Since I have Silica wicking I will do WillBlacks request next. I do not have any plans in doing a taste test comparison, I just want to show the wicking capability of these different style wicks.

The silicon on the tip. Some tips are narrow and the silicon don't get a tight seal around the tip.
-
I just spent some time watching movies with the family, I was just about to get started on the 50/50. Will: I have some silica and some other wicking material I could do this with. I wans't planing on doing it, but I don't see why I couldn't add some other types to this.
-
I leave mine open, you do need to make sure it is a sug fit though. As Earthing said it don't always work but has for me so long as it has a snug fit.

Second test results using 100% PG: These wicks were dropped at the same time in these bottles. The bottles have the exact same amount of PG with Blue food coloring added. After 10min in the PG, Wicking much faster than the VG Test ended after 15min in the PG MUJI KGD Side by Side I was a little surprised at this test, KGD came out on top this time. Seems the KGD is a little better at wicking PG than the MUJI. My conclusion is that the KGD is better at wicking when it comes to PG. With the KDG wicking almost a 1/4 inch more than the MUJI, I have give KGD a better rating at wicking thinner E-Liquids. Both the MUJI and the KDG wicked the exact same amount of PG into the wick. So, one is not wicking more fluid than the other, both were equal in that aspect.

These They even show one on the driptip here.
-
Yes I do this, but I have found that capping the driptip with one of the silicon caps from my stock kpt coil heads came it works well too. Like putting your finger over a straw and taking water out of a glass.

This may sound a little odd, but I don't have "one" anymore. I vape whatever I have extra of LOL However, Cinnamon Stick is all I use in my Mech. I have 4 tanks that I use all the time. 2 Kanger Mega tanks 1 Nautilus (Full Size) and 1 KPT2. I have each mash line in the mega tanks and the Nautilus, I have a Spiced Camel mix in the KPT2. I do have other KPT2 tanks with extras and test flavors in them and one RDA set up for testing as well.

Ok first test results using 100% VG: These wicks were dropped at the same time in these bottles. The bottles have the exact same amount of VG with red food coloring added. After 10min in the VG Test ended after 15min in the VG MUJI KGD Side by Side As you can see there is only a 1/16in difference in the wicking. Sorry all you KGD users, the MUJI beat the KGD by 1/16 of an inch LOL. I know, I know nothing to brag about, but it is what it is. My conclusion is that they are equal in wicking fluid when it comes to VG. I will say in defense of the KDG it did wick faster for the first minute and then the Muji caught up in the second minute. Both the MUJI and the KDG wicked the exact same amount of VG into the wick. So, one is not wicking more fluid than the other, both were equal.

I was just joking T-Bone
-
LOL Yep, He is great at getting my instruments when I drop them. Pissed me off once when he nested in my bulk hemp wicking though.

That's me

I'll take it, I'll take It!.... Oh wait I made it... Never mind.

Ok back to the task at hand. Last night I did a prelim test with 100% VG. I let each go for one hour. What I found was 1 hour was to long. Most of the wicking happened in the first 15min. The rest of the time the wicking was very little and kind of a mute point. Having said that, I will just do 15min tests. Here is the pic of the prelim test: What I noticed is that one wicked more evenly than the other in the initial 15min. Over the hour they both were uneven On the left is the MUJI: In the first 15min it wicked up a little more than 1in and was uneven in the wicking. After an hour it evened out some and at it's longest poit ended at 1 3/8thin On the right is the KDG: In the first 15min it also wicked 1in, but was very even as it wicked. As you can see at the one inch mark it started wicking unevenly. Also, at about 30min ito the test the bottle ran a little dry. This IMO is why it didn't wick any further than it did. When I do the actual test I will make sure each bottle has the same amount of liquid in the bottle at the start to get a more accurate test. Each wick will be in it's own bottle as well. I had used the same bottle for both wicks. Edit: For kicks n giggles I just did a piece of organic cotton ball wick. I left it in for 15min in 100% vg with a fluid level in the bottle of 5/16 of an inch, in 15min it wicked a whopping 1/16th of an in. LMAO

It is not "Poop Flavored Juice" It is Juice that poops when you vape it. There is a difference.

I'm sure this next Halloween my wife will be stealing a few for doing makeup too. I may as well.
