What PG/VG ratio are you using? What mg Nic are you using? These are the two biggest factors in the burning or what is referred to as Throat Hit. High PG can cause a burning and mixed with a high mg nic can make it worse with some of the new lower ohm setups. I know you are new and asking what you think are dumb questions is the best way to learn.

I personally have had no luck dry burning a stock KPT coil, they always pop on me. I have found it best to just rebuild them and then dry burn and rewick as needed. Earthing is correct on the Aspire coils, pulling out the wick and then a good dry burn and rewicking works well. I would not use rubbing alcohol. I would use a cheap vodka as Tam mentions or PGA (Pure Grain Alcohol) instead. Rubbing alcohol can leave a residue that may not be good to vape.

Any PG you add will make it thinner. It will also thin out the favoring some. Even though it is the flavor carrier, it with dilute the flavor. Try taking a pin and poke some holes into the area the juice goes into the coil head. I have heard that it works in some cases to help a thicker juice flow better to the coil. I have not ever seen VG juice so thick that it wouldn't draw up into a dropper. Not saying it is not happening, just saying I have not seen it. I have found that some flavorings can cause it (VG) to jell though.

Most of these carts are out dated and have very little meaning with equipment used today. What Tam said is true and is the fastest way to find that sweat spot for any equipment you may own. As far as your comment on suppliers I find it ludicrous and inflammatory.

By federal definition it is not a tobacco product unless it contains a substance derived from tobacco. I would have to see the "evidence" of legislation to prove the rumors of that.

This is why I'm such a big advocate for DIY. If things do go south, I will make sure people can still make the flavors they like even if they are nic free. I do have backup plans for the day that may put me and others in that position.

That can happen with some flavorings too. Banana is the worst for messing up syringe.

I trust Wizard Labs they have the lowest price for the TFA flavorings. For example, the Absinthe at Heartland Vapes is $8.75 Wizard Labs price is $8.25 for the 4oz size. You can also get smaller amounts like 30ml and 8ml. Heartland does have lower prices on the NIC, PG and VG. I would have to say that getting started you may end up with a lower total start up cost with Heartland Vapes when you include it all.
