Battery Life question
jasonculp and 2 others reacted to Adversarious1 for a topic
We all had to start somewhere. I was fortunate enough to stumble across these forums not long after I started vaping. I learned a lot, picked up on some things quicker than others and have enjoyed my time here. Paying it forward by passing on my own experiences, knowledge and opinions is my way of repaying those who taught me.3 points -
FDA Regulations Explained - Updated Thread

I was at a local B&M that also does very well online and was talking to one of the owners. He said that they're going to be cutting out some of their flavors that aren't big sellers to limit the number of applications they'll have to make and holding "workshops" for people who want to learn to build or DYI before the stuff really hits the fan in Feb. (He's doing this by word of mouth and in store notices) Although he can't and won't be touching anything and it's more of an educational process. I hope he's not going to get in trouble for it. On the flip side though, it's really nothing different than watching a youtube video just live.I have to respect his motivation to help people stay off analogs.( I also think it's brilliant because I'm sure he'll have the FDA fear factor of losing the right to vape and have new stuff to sell his stock.) I know I won't be shopping online if I have to send a picture of myself holding my ID to anyone. I'm stocking up and praying for a reprieve.2 points -

Well in all fairness I hadn't actually owned Vapor Talk since 2012 (though many weren't aware) But then the door knock came "uh...so yea we screwed the whole thing up. Can back?" Me as if I'd walked into a bedroom with 17 5 years old: "what....the hell have you done" No but this is actually a great thread. We carry both the Nautilus Coils & the Hercules but if it's not the right ohms etc let me know and I'll get them in my tomorrow evening. Also, customer notes say "chris you're awesome how bout' some free swag" always result in free stuff if I see it in time If that doesn't work perhaps I can lure you with some Werther's Original. It works wonder on kids and adults alike.2 points -

I agree the data needs to be updated. One thing to think of with the configuration of the batteries is that with a regulated mod it really doesn't matter. As you know, on a series mod your amp value is the that of the single battery (2-20A batteries in a series has approximately 20A capacity @ 7.4V) with a parallel mod you spread the load between the batteries (2-20A batteries have a 40A capacity at 3.7V) The funny thing is the math works out the same for both - 75W/7V*1.1=11.79A pulled from the batteries in a series mod & 75W/3.5V*1.1=23.57/2 cells = 11.79A in a parallel mod. Now something I really need to figure out is how a triple 18650 mod works. Are these regulated only? I checked the RX200 the other day and they are wired in a series, so you have 11.1V available. The DNA 200 is the same way with a lipo pack or. How would one correctly calculate the battery draw on it. I have always calculated it like the normal Variable Wattage mods, but am not 100% sure this is correct. It does have a 2 completely different circuits, but, I don't know... TC does add a layer of safty and complexity to a mod. In preheat you might exceed you max amperage draw for a split second, but with all of mine it quickly regulates the power (watts) quickly down to maintain temp. So your amp draw should be much less, but this has never resulted in a longer lasting battery, for me anyway. Sorry, I go all nerdy at the drop of a hat! I really can't explain why your batteries would degrade that fast. I have not had many batteries that have "gone bad" on me. In fact most of the time, they just die. I feel like you will like the HG2s much better than what you have. The 30Q is exactly the same as the HG2 in my opinion. (there are differences, but I have found that due to the popularity of the HG2, I could pick up the 30Qs cheaper2 points

FDA Regulations Explained - Updated Thread

And that is "manufacturing" according to the FDA's new definition of the word. The last time I checked, changing spark plugs or oil in a car with an identical set of spark plugs or an identical blend of oil was considered maintenance. The same should hold true for retailers. If a person is physically or mentally incapable of changing out the 1.5 ohm coil in their Subtank Mini with a coil that is identical in every way and was physically manufactured by a different company, (i.e. another 1.5 ohm coil from Kangertech), or that person is physically or mentally incapable of opening their tank to fill it with their favorite liquid (from a bottle they already own), then that should be considered maintenance, not manufacturing. Some of these FDA regs make sense on the surface (excluding the extremely high fees associated with the PMTA process), but some of these regs are, in my opinion, a gross misuse of power. Just because someone says you are permitted to do something doesn't mean you should. And just because you do something doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. Just because the FDA says changing a coil or filling a tank for a customer is "manufacturing" does not make it "manufacturing". Just my 2 cents. I'll get off my soapbox now. It's just that these ridiculous regs, along with all the misleading information, partial information or, (in some cases) full on lies, have me rather ticked off.2 points -
@jasonculp@FXRich@Adversarious1 Hi and no worries! I learn a lot reading all of your posts and I'm sure I haven't made a stupid mistake because of them I'm still fairly new to vaping and appreciate any advice I can get and you're all very generous with yours. Thanks tons!1 point

Hey, Spydre, you're not looking to build your own coils, are you? If you are, I highly recommend the Russian 91% version 2. Earthling got me hooked on that one. Otherwise, I'm still loving my Aspire Triton 2. It can take a whole bunch of different materials and builds for coils (prebuilt coils) and you can also get an RBA for it at a minimal cost if you want to build your own. The Triton is a top fill. For batteries, I'm still stuck on the Eleaf iStick 50W although I did venture out to get a Coolfire IV 100TC and an Eleaf iStick 70WTC. For me, I prefer the built in battery rather than having to charge outside the mod. YMMV. There are so many choices out there now that it makes my head spin.1 point

Hey, Werther's originals were my go to candy whenever I tried to quit smoking. Probably will be if I try to quit vaping, too.1 point -
love my Subtank minis use them all day long Herakles Plus Is also a bas *** tank. I run an invader mine with a subtank mini in TC all day long with teh RBA deck1 point

You could go simple and get a ijust or maybe a subvod, no VW but they work well. I only have Kanger mods so I can't be much help on choosing a mod, except I can tell you the Top tank mini 75w TC is a good setup, top fill and replaceable 18650 battery. The Pico sounds like a good mod, if you decide on a TC mod try to get one that can use a variety of coils. Ti, Ni, SS, and maybe NiCr.1 point

I never close the air control when not using it. What mod you choose depends on what you prefer. Do you like built it batteries or replaceable batteries? What watts do you plan to use, or need? What brand do you prefer? There are so many choices its enough to drive someone crazy. My favorite tank is the Kanger Subtank Mini, but other people will recommend something else.1 point

The stores will not have to get PMTA unless they manufacture something on their own. What the stores will have left to sell after PMTA is the real question. There's a good chunk of US manufactures that likely won't go through PMTA. Same goes for liquid manufactures. (The smaller guys and probably some of the mid sized operations) There's one owner I spoke to, who I won't mention, who has done well in the vaping industry. He can technically afford to go through PMTA but it would kill him if his PMTA was rejected and required another run. (In which case you have to pay for the PMTA application all over again) So, his plan is to simply retire out. It's a fairly major brand too. I suspect you'll see a lot of that. Companies like Kanger for example are planning to go through PMTA though it likely will be on a select number of devices and coils. (As every item needs PMTA)1 point -

I struggled with with this quite a while. I was originally taught to calculate everything like a mechanical mod, but it didn't make sense. How could a battery at 4.2 - 3.5 Volts supply 6+ Volts to the coil. It took an "old timer", from another board, quite a few posts to get it beat into my thick skull...lol The battery can't supply a constant voltage, but it will supply a constant power (watts). You are exactly correct, as voltage drops, your Amps go up. The difference at 75 watts goes from 19.84A with a fully charged battery (4.2V) to 23.81A with a battery at 3.5V. I am like you, I really enjoy the nerd discussions. Poor @Edna gets caught up in my OCD, Nerd Rant when she is just asking about how to extend battery life...lol Bottom line for you @Edna is that if you are using a regulated mod and running 25 - 30 watts, a HG2 or Samsung 30Q batteries would be a great investment for you. You will notice a difference. I run a NEBOX at 25 watts. With the HE2/HE4 batteries, I change them before I leave work (5:00) but with the HG2 or 30Q, I normally change them late in the evening around 9:00 - 10:00. I personally keep 6 (or more) charged at one time, but I never know when I am going to have to jump and run out of town for work.1 point

Agree with everything FXRich said, but wanted to add my own 2 cents... It sounds like you only have 2 batteries. I would suggest buying at least 4 more. You never know when you're really going to need those back-ups. When you buy them, make sure you mark them. Personally I would dedicate 2 batteries to each of the mods you have in rotation (mark them 1A/1B, 2A/2B or Eleaf 60wA/Eleaf 60wB and PicoA/PicoB or in some manner that works for you).1 point
