Bump Everytime You Buy Something New

I have watched this news report several times and every time that I do I think, "Boy that firefighter that is being interviewed sound very dumb.". This gives the impression that everyone in CA is stupid, not that I believe that to be the case. Looking at the story the facts are flawed if none present at all, except that a mod blew up. I sent a message to the news station that reported it about my frustration that they can't report on something without knowing about what they are reporting on. It really infuriates me that the news does this all the time. In the message I sent I tried to inform them about youtube and all the great reviewer that have good knowledge. The fact that is was not a e-mod-cigarette, but a personal vaporizer. That you cannot smoke one. There is no combustion happening and everything that we already know and understand about our devices. My rant to them was more in the lines of educate yourself before you embarrass yourself.3 points

I'm surprised she can even tell when you get something new in. You could just slip it by and she'd never know the difference. My SO long ago stopped trying to keep track. lol That's what we do. We enjoy helping others spend their money. In all seriousness, we want to see people get off analogs and onto vaping safely. It's a good day when we can do that.3 points -
CoilMaster 5-in-1 coil winding tool
Tug and 2 others reacted to Earthling789 for a topic
I've made several coils today with my Coil-Master tool... At first, I wasn't very impressed... my first two coils (one with 26ga, one with 30ga) were not even... the wire actually wanted to stack and slip as each turn was made. The heads on the screws are not tall/high enough to really capture the wire...either that, or the bevel that catches the wire is not deep enough? Anyway, I figured that if you leave the wire coming out of the hole "as-is", and not trying to "start" the first turn like on the Kuro Koiler, it makes a MUCH better coil. The coils are comparable to the Kuro Koiler. Smooth, tight, and even. I tried 2-strand, twisted 32ga, 2-strand twisted 30ga, 4-strand twisted 32ga, and of course, single-strand 32, 30, 28, and 26ga wires. Making a twisted 4-strand coil on the 1mm mandrel was "interesting" to say the least But it was possible by going slow. The design concept of interchangeable rods (with their own cap) is a brilliant idea, and they have designed that concept well. I found the 3mm, 2.5mm, and 2.0mm rods were best suited for my needs, and using the 1.5mm rod made it VERY easy to build a KPT coil. I think with the 1.0mm rod, you could easily rebuild Kanger BDC (dual coils)? What I think they could to better... Slightly larger body would make it easier to grip. OR, perhaps knurling on the body and cap? Identify the size of the cap on the side, as well as, or instead of the top of the cap? Also make the printing more bold? Perhaps offering a 3.5mm and a 4mm rod as well? Slightly taller screw-heads, or increase the bevel to better grab the larger wires? For the price of this tool, I highly recommend it over the Kuro Koiler set ($60). It functions just as well, and offers two additional sizes for one price!3 points -
Like Jason said, get some back ups. I recently went through four of my back up batteries before one of them finally worked for me. Well, that and two different coils. You can never have too many back ups. Seriously. Right in line with the back ups will be us repeating SAFETY FIRST! We really do go on about doing research before jumping in, especially when building your own coils. You can never do too much research and always remember to put safety first. As for being friendlier than another forum... we get that a lot. It helps that most of us are pretty much nuts, it makes us appear friendly. At least on the outside.3 points

Greetings all, After 27 years of on and off smoking...mostly on, by far, I gave up the analogs 15 days ago in favor of vaping. I tried the convenience store e-cigs a few months ago, (blu), but they simply didn't do the trick. Nasty taste and nowhere near the satisfaction. So I started doing some research and as a birthday gift to myself I took the plunge and went and bought a Kanger EMOW. As far as satisfaction goes, it definitely does the trick for thoae 65 mil. ecommutes I make between home and work, work and home. It also keeps me going and satisfied during the work day. I quickly found myself wanting to try different ejuice flavors, so rather than put just a few drops in the stock clearomizer, I went and got myself a Kanger Protank III mini. I love that as well. So that solved the urge to try more flavors in a quicker fashion, and I'm quickly finding flavors that please my palate and flavors I can just ignore. I also quickly found myself wanting more. I really have no desire to go cloud chasing, but when I drink beer, I quickly found myself wanting more out of my vaping experience, much like with analogs...I smoked more when I drank. I now want to vape more when I drink. Of course, my inquiring mind led me to even more research, more videos on youtube and more questions. Regulated box mods, RDA's, RBA's, sub-ohm, PG vs VG and the advantages/disadvantages of each. It can definitely be overwhelming to a noob. Thankfully there are a ton of great people here and a ton of great videos and reviews on youtube. I have now taken the plunge and purchased a Sigelei 100w and a Kanger Subtank mini. For the record, I'm not sold on Kanger, but I haven't been disappointed so far in my youthful vaping experience. In short...thanks to all the vets here and elsewhere around the web. It definitely makes a seemingly overwhelming world of choices a lot easier to deal with when there is such a vast amount of knowledge at our fingertips.2 points -

I'm loving my Sigelei 100w. One and a half days of moderate vaping and still at 49% on the batteries.2 points -
Thats cool Adversarious1. I am finding the same thing as I go the lung hits are getting much better and satisfiying. The Istick 50w paired with a Nautilis tank has made a big difference for me too.(Thanks Tam and Earthling789) I have been using the Istick for three days and the batt is still over half...awesome. I have found that 30/70 pg/vg is the best mix for me and by adding a few drops of Fadora Blend Extra Strong (tobacco) to my favorite flavors also helps me keep from coughing. Psychosomatic? Maybe but it works.2 points

6mg Nic
Tam and one other reacted to Adversarious1 for a topic
Fitst, congrats on a week smoke free. I'm a vape noob myself and those first few days were rough. Second....I learned a TON just by reading this thread. I was (and still am, to an extent) experiencing a lot of the same things. As I was committed to going "cold turkey" when I got my starter set, I started with an 18mg, 50/50 PG/VG juice. The throat hit was killing me...much more than I ever experiened with analogs. And the hits in general were making me cough with almost every draw. Even short ones. Here I am 15 days later. Still no analogs. I have already dropped to 12mg nic that I use in my EMOW, and I'm using 6mg in my new Sigelei. I have also started looking for higher VG juice to cut down on the throat hit. I'm not looking for big clouds, I'm looking for satisfaction. But the bigger clouds are kinda cool...lol. In any event, you aren't alone Lee. But from my personal experience over the last couple of weeks, it does get better. I'm getting more draws that are longer and more satisfying than I was when I started.2 points -

6! Sounds like you will fit in good around here. @Earthling789 can only buy things in multiples of 2! He will be around in a bit to help you (and the rest of us) spend money. The safety thing is most important, but, a close second is that it will be nice to have someone to answer all of my geeky electronic questions!2 points -

@Jason - I already plan on backups of backups of backups. Heck...I bought 6 batteries when I bought the Sigelei...lol. @Tam...I totally get the SAFETY FIRST idea. Fortunately, I have a Master's degree in electrical engineering, so I'm kind of familiar with Ohm's Law and I already feel confident with the idea of building my own coils. I still need to do a lot of research on different batteries and some other things, but I'm sure I'll turn into a coil building junkie before long...lol2 points -

One thing you will hear preached, yelled, and written is backups. Don't sell, give anything away, trade ect, until you get some backups, and backups of backups! The subtank mini is my all day rig right now. I really think it is great! I use mine on the ipv mini 2, and the sigelei mini 30w. If you are like the most of us here, your wallet will suffer for a while, but after quitting smoking you will eventually get ahead! Welcome aboard!2 points -

This is true. For some, like me, this is just about as addictive as porn, drugs, ect. It is so much more healthy and life changing in a positive way, so at least it is a good addiction. Another advantage is that I now have tangible items that I can sell, trade or pay it forward, before, I just burned it up and had nothing but ashes, stinky clothes, and bad health! Now if I could just save enough money for the tanks, and the other mods I want....lol1 point

Need help with my vape pen crazy glue question
Tam reacted to Earthling789 for a topic
Not yet, Tam... After buying two Cloupor Minis, I've tapped-out my mod budget for the moment I have held one in my hand at the local B&M, and wasn't turned off by them, and I do like the uber-battery in them, too. Maybe in a few weeks I can justify sneaking one into the house without anyone yelling at me for "buying more stuff" I think I need to lay low for a few weeks anyway... with all the DIY mixing supplies that are now cluttering the kitchen1 point -
I can't say for absolute certainty but I think it might be okay for a very short time. You should probably get another battery as soon as possible. A couple of box mods I've gotten lately and really like are the IPV mini, IPV mini 2 and the Eleaf iStick 50w. With the IPV mini and mini 2, you'll need separate batteries and a trusted battery charger. With the Eleaf iStick 50W, you only need a micro-USB cord as the battery is fixed inside the case. I'd say stay away from the Eleaf iStick 20w because there are problems with that one running much hotter than the display indicates.1 point

CoilMaster 5-in-1 coil winding tool
Earthling789 reacted to jasonculp for a topic
Thanks for the great review! I bought the knock off version from Fast Tech... wasted money. It will make coils, kinda. It has round head screws that the wire constantly slips off of. I think your suggestions are great, but would like to add another. I wish the pin and top cap were longer too. I use the tool I build the coils to position the coil in the RBA and straighten it when it is tight. It is a little short to do this on some of my atomizers.1 point -

Welcome to Vapor Talk, don't be afraid to ask questions! The Sigelei & Subtank mini is a fantastic setup.I know people get discouraged with those starter kits like the EVOD because they don't make the transition from analogs to vaping very pleasant.I feel that if you want to quit smoking you should do it right the first time of course being knowledgeable on your equipment is paramount.Good luck on your vaping journey!1 point -

I just loaded my Nautilus tank with the last of my 1mg solution. I cleaned out my other Nautilus tank and put a new coil in it. I'll be switching to .5mg solution later tonight or tomorrow. This has been a fun journey though. I smoked my last regular cigarette on December 18th and started vaping 100% with 18mg solutions. I have cut from 18 to 15 to 12 to 10 to 9 to 8 to 6 to 5 to 4 to 3 to 1 and now to .5 and headed to .25. Not bad for 3 months. I have suffered practically NO withdrawal symptoms except for when I first made the switch from tobacco to vapor and those symptoms were minor. I'm guessing I'll be off the vapor within about two more weeks...1 point

Yep, I saw it the same way the commenter did. Mechanical mod + Wrong battery + Resistance of the coil too low for the battery = BOOM! Like you said, Earthling, natural selection at its finest. This is precisely why we go on and on about safety! Learn Ohm's Law. Only use the proper (genuine brand name) batteries for the application. Know what the hell you're doing before you become a statistic. Clouds are not worth the hospital bills.1 point

Somebody blew themselves up today...
GeorgeF reacted to Earthling789 for a topic
I watched that "news story" twice, paying special attention to the battery fragments... and it looks a LOT like an Ultrafire! Tam, the commenter you copied is spot-on... failure to properly use a product is the fault of the idiot user, no-one else! I'd love to spend an hour ranting over the poor "journalism" of this piece, but I have to comment... the man was NOT SMOKING IN BED, he was vaping!! The fact he was using an improper battery and did not have his device "tuned" properly is not even newsworthy... but never let the media miss an opportunity to let a good crisis go to waste, as this ONE instance (and the brief mention of a 17yr old last summer had one explode on him... oh, wow, two instances of stupidity in the past 8-10 months?) obviously means that all "e-mod-cigarettes" (their words) should be banned, or regulated, or perhaps the government should just issue licenses to use them? Or require fire-suits? Or make it a $1,000,000,000 fine if you're caught "smoking one in bed", lol?1 point -
I found this interesting. According to a comment found here: http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2015/03/09/e-cigarette-explosion-burns-oc-mans-face-and-sets-fire-to-bed/#comments Handsome, Wealthy and Black • 14 hours ago First of all lets ignore the image of the LG HE4 battery on the left as it's irrelevant, it clearly wasn't the battery he was using otherwise it wouldn't appear unscathed - also it is the correct battery for the device he was using, and this wouldn't have happened had he been using it. The device is a 4nine mechanical mod and the tank on top is an aspire atlantis. The battery remains appears to be either a red efest IMR, an AW IMR, or even worse, an ultrafire ICR. Mechanical mod - a device with no inbuilt circuitry, the current drawn from the battery depends entirely on the resistance of the coil, which completes the circuit. ALL SELLERS OF THESE ITEMS INCLUDING THE SELLER OF THIS DEVICE CLEARLY STATES ONLINE AND IN STORE THESE DEVICES ARE FOR ADVANCED USERS ONLY WITH BATTERY SAFETY KNOWLEDGE, AND FAMILIAR WITH THE OHM'S LAW. Red Efest 18650 Battery - low amp rating, NOT DESIGNED FOR COILS BELOW 1OHM LIKE IN THE ATLANTIS. Due to the internal chemistry these batteries will vent gas and not explode if shorted AW 18650 Battery (old version) - low amp rating, NOT DESIGNED FOR COILS BELOW 1OHM LIKE IN THE ATLANTIS. Due to the internal chemistry these batteries will vent gas and not explode if shorted Ultrafire 18650 Battery - low amp rating, known for poor quality and faulty built in protection circuits, NOT FOR USE IN ECIGARETTE DEVICES! The batteries internal chemistry can explode if shorted. 1 MORE TIME, NOT FOR USE IN ECIGARETTE DEVICES!!! This is user error plain and simple. This person chose to ignore all caution warnings given, he chose to use a tank on a ecigarette device it was NOT designed for, and was using the WRONG TYPE OF BATTERY, he chose to do things in such a way that makes it clear he knows nothing about ohm's law, battery safety, and has no common sense to follow clear warnings - would a manufacturer or reseller of power tools be liable if I chose to operate an item in the manner they specifically warned me NOT to do, and injured myself as a result? If you tell someone don't run by the pool as it's slippery and they do it anyway and hurt themselves, who is at fault?? Come on World - especially America, get some common sense1 point

Hi duke, the ego twist is a good battery.I would try upgrading your tank first like a Nautilus mini works excellent. They produce Good vapor and the coils last alot longer than say a protank 2 coil.if the ego isn't satisfying your needs maybe look into a Vision Spinner too.Hope this helps.Welcome to VT.1 point

Menthol Question
Starre LaBell reacted to SABOTEUR for a topic
Ditto what's already been said concerning the difficulty of matching the flavor of an analog. But being a longtime Newport smoker, I've recently found and have become quite impressed with the selection of various menthols offered by Halo (http://www..com/). Perhaps you can find an acceptable menthol flavor there. Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk1 point
