My girlfriend's dad has been smoking for the better part of 50 years. Not only a long time smoker but he smokes those "Santa Fe" little cigars/cigarillos or whatever they are called. Just hardcore stuff. 1.5 to 2 packs a day... He suffers from COPD. He gets out of breath very easily and it takes him a while to recover when he gets worked up. He's not on permanent oxygen but he's probably not far from it. Last week he was out shopping with us and after dinner, the walk from the restaurant door to the car got him very out of breath and he was breathing heavy for at least 10 more minutes after the 2 minute walk to the car. After we dropped her parents off at their house, I talked with my girlfriend about it and suggested that we try to get him on vapor instead of smoke. She said he'd never go for it because he'd never shell out the money for the equipment to get started because he's tight. He smokes those Santa Fe smokes because they cost less than $20 for a carton. That being the case, I decided to buy him some gear to try out. I got him an eLeaf iStick like mine and a Nautilus tank. I got him a 30ml bottle of Space Jam "Eclipse" at 24mg to get him started. We dropped by his house about 430pm this afternoon and I showed him how to work it. He had seen me using mine before and was a bit curious about it. I showed him how to refill the tank, fix any 'gurgling' that might occur, showed him how to not get juice in the wrong places when he fills it, how to hook it to his phone charger at night to charge the battery and got him puffing on it before I left. Since I'm making my own e-juices, I think he's interested in making it work for him since I told him he could essentially smoke for free because I'd keep him in the juices. I also discussed with him how I have switched from analogs to vapor and worked my way down the nicotine chain from 18mg liquids to 4mg liquids in just 2 months time. He knows I'm breathing and feeling better because I have started dieting and exercising again, which includes running that I could never do when I was smoking with 'smoke.' We called my gf's mom about 9pm to see how it was going. She said he hadn't smoked an analog since he started puffing vapor and he would have normally had 10 or more during that time. I'm hoping this will be a success story!2 points

Hang around, read through the threads... you'll be amazed at the amount of information you can get as well as how often we derail threads and go off topic...2 points

I just hope he can stick with it. I know it may take him some time to make the transition because it did for me. Hopefully he'll be successful... I'll update as it progresses2 points

A purchase of iStick can't go wrong. Though the cost of it's one million dong. Purchased in Saigon I think it's a come on With a plug designed by Viet Cong. Now one million dong's fifty dollars. Making the shop owners robbers. Should cost less than forty Back home I screamed "Lordy" They cheated me out or ten dollars.1 point -

As long as he's trying, that's all that matters imo... Hell, I've been trying for the past year. I think I might have the equipment that will work for me finally. I'm a firm believer that equipment that someone uses also matters more than what most people think...1 point

Leaking question
mcquinn reacted to Earthling789 for a topic
It could be the coil... it could be the fact that your tank is cracked, broken o-ring, or base is not sealing well.... all of these will cause of failure of vacuum seal, and will allow the juice to leak into the center-tube or onto the battery. "Some" leakage onto the battery contact is normal. you just have to swab off the battery contact any time you remove the tank, and if you get a little gurgle occasionally, hold a tissue under the tank's base and blow gently through the mouthpiece/drip-tip. It will clear the excess drop or two.1 point -

My doctor (and I) thought I'd never quit smoking, and since I quit 11 months ago, solely by the use of vaping... he has been recommending vaping to all his smokers. He's not a rare doctor to do this. Many "real" doctors, who are educated and have common-sense, are beginning to jump on the band-wagon of vaping. Sure, long-term effects are not really known, but the desired result of quitting smoking is real, measurable, and definitely an improvement to the quality of a person's life (and lifestyle). More and more doctors are recommending vaping to those patients who smoke, and want to quit. Although, I'm sure they wouldn't admit it to the AMA or insurance companies Big-insurance doesn't want you to vape... they want you to use Chantix, patches, and gum... because those are "approved" (read: funded by premiums, backed by big-pharma) methods1 point -

Yep, the quirks of the 20W iStick take some getting use to The Nautilus coils are only 1.6 or 1.8 Ohm as Tam pointed out, so you can't go higher there. The only option is to go lower Voltage or Wattage. I've found that the iSticks are less prone to running "hot" if they are in Voltage-mode, but even then, if I were running 3.9V (10W) on a different device, I have to translate that to 3.2-3.4V (6.8-7.7W) on the iStick to get a decent (not burnt/hot) vape. As the battery wears down a bit, they tend to smooth out a little. So it does take a little playing with them. They're not as accurate or smooth as say, an MVP, but they do work I'm using one right now with a KPT2 tank and 1.5 Ohm coil. I have to run it at 3V (6W) or I start getting a slight burnt taste. As the battery wears down, I can take it up to 3.3 (7.3W) and it will work well until it needs recharging. On my MVP, I would be running that same tank/coil combo @ 8.5-10W from the start, and never have a burnt taste.1 point -
Can someone point me in the direction for an upgrade?

It is just a thought, but do you think the burnt flavor could be stuck in your coil or the juice in your tank? The iStick 20W does not buck (lower voltage below battery voltage) very good (if at all). So when it is fully charged it would be putting out close to 10 watts. My personal experiance is that fruit flavors like you are using are generally best for me in the 10+ watt range. * the wattage numbers I am using is based on the assumption that you are using a 20watt iStick and not a 30watt iStick. The 20 watt uses a nonstandard measurement system that makes it much hotter based on the numbers on the screen. 9 watts on an iStick 20 is equal to 12.8 watts on most other devices.1 point

How strange. Just went looking for 2.2 ohm coils for the Nautilus BVC but only found the 1.8 ohm as the highest resistance. Sorry! Your next step then, is to see what the PG/VG ratio of your juice is. Like Jason said, a 50/50 blend is a good one to make sure you get the vapor as well as the right viscosity so that your wicks can soak up the juice. What ohm coil are you using right now? Is it the 1.6 or 1.8 ohm? It should say on the base of the coil itself.1 point

I always change my settings until i find the sweet spot for the juice. With that said, is it a dry hit or burnt hit? I am not familiar with your tank but many people will be.1 point -

Check the Kangside http://www.esmoke-ksd.com/cp_view.asp?id=192 web site. You may have a clone. Their website only has 3 units pictured. Stainless polished, stainless brushed and what looks like gun metal. the only markings on it are 20W/Vamo. They are VW only devices. Their website even lists copycat sellers.
