Thoughts on vaping around children?
LOSTSOUL VAPORZ and 3 others reacted to Earthling789 for a topic
I'm of a different mind-set, I guess. Children are more curious about things that are "hidden" from them, so the more you hide, the more curious they become. My children were brought up around all kinds of dangers, yet they were never hidden from them (farm implements, machinery, tractors, motorcycles, knives, guns, bow/arrow, smoking, etc.), they know and understand the dangers around them. Which is one of the reasons I finally stopped smoking... for my kids (as much as me)... they understood the danger and how bad it is for you, and I realized what a horrible example I had become for them by telling them, "do as I say, not as I do". But back to hiding things from kids... I find that kids are more likely to "play with matches" if they have no idea what they are for, and if they are hidden away in the back of a cabinet. Sure, kids should be protected from dangers, but I don't believe in feeding their curiosity by hiding anything from them.... but that's just me4 points -

The jury is still out on that one, but it could be determined quite easily by getting someone to exhale a few times into a gas-chromatograph and simply measure it... but that would be too easy for our government nannies to do Seriously, if you worry about it, don't do it, and you'll sleep better at night. It's that simple.... One thing I can tell you is that vaporized nicotine is absorbed quickly by the soft-tissue of your mouth, tongue, throat and lungs. My best (scientific/medical) guess is that the vast majority of nicotine from each "hit" is absorbed by the body, and VERY little makes it back out into the atmosphere on exhale. Also, if your kids eat tomatoes, eggplants, cauliflower, green peppers (and scores of other fruits/vegetables) they are ingesting natural nicotine (in very small quantities).... Nicotine is a naturally occurring insecticide, produced by the plants, themselves... perfectly natural, perfectly safe, perfectly NORMAL!3 points -

For me, when I first found this forum, I already had some experience with different tanks and such. Thankfully, my local B&M is very good about information and taught me much. They're also one of the rare vendors who are certified as an official Joyetech vendor so I only got quality hardware for the most part. The veterans here taught me about direct dripping and got me into more of the advanced stuff. Their patience and endless information helped me along so that I can now help others. You guys are the next wave to help noobs get off and stay off analogs. *passes the baton*3 points -

EVOD Glass starter kit
Patricia and one other reacted to Earthling789 for a topic
EVOD is plastic tank, plastic tip, and single-coil (cheaper) EVOD2 is plastic tank, removable metal tip and dual-coil EVOD2 Glass is glass tank, removable metal tip and dual-coil Dual-coils burn a tiny bit more juice per "hit", and produce a tiny bit more vapor... they're also a bit more expensive (50% to 100% more cost). The EVOD2 Glass are basically the same as a ProTank3 mini, with the difference of a metal shield around the tank on the EVOD version, and the PT3 mini is capable of full disassembly2 points -

After using and experimenting with it, I am one foot in and one foot out on GPlat. I absolutely love the 26g for the Kraken, as its the best vape I have had yet on this tank. The 24g in the dripper, not so much. I don't think I will be using the rest of the short length that I purchased, and with how long I keep my coils before tearing them out and rebuilding, the 6' of 26g will go a long way.1 point -

Me too, actually my son (9) was a huge influence on me starting vaping. I have never hidden anything from my son and he is anything but sheltered lol. As I told my friend on the lake this weekend that wanted to know if it is ok to get my son to grab him a beer as if it were somehow wrong. Like i have said many times on here, when I went to college and even today as my friends kids go to college the ones that go the wildest are those that never experienced anything and learned how to do things in a responsible way. I think kids are far too sheltered these days. With that said I am a "regular" vaper. I do not cloud chase or play with Mods. I just vape to not smoke cigarettes and thats it. Even as a scout leader vaping does not violate the "no tobacco" policy at camps and outings.1 point -

I feel the same about hiding things from my son Earthling. I try to protect him as much as possible but without hiding anything from him. I want to expose him to the dangers in life but in ways that are safe or in a safe learning environment. Keeping things hidden from children just toys with their curiosity (children are curious by nature) and puts fuel on the flames so to speak, leaving more chance for them to try something when you are not around. That being said I vape around my son but make sure to blow the vapor in a direction away from him. The comments above are my opinion only (and sometimes vary from my wife). I respect others opinions to feel otherwise though.1 point -

Hey, I bought mine for $40, which is less than half what a VTR, charger, and a couple of good batteries will run!! Oh, and they come in this thing called "variety"... not just Jungle Camo and fingerprint-magnet Although a VTR will be my next MOD... if I don't pull the trigger on a Tesla first, lol... but I'm holding out for the next versions... I'm hoping they will release them this fall or winter?1 point -
I do have a good DVOM. I also have taken an 510/Ego adapter and soldered leads onto it that plug into my DVOM. I do think I would like to buy a dedicated one though. That is my problem. I want everything...now...lol. Of course as a tinkerer, I have most of what I need. Torches, miniature tools, all kinds of electronics, craft supplies, and on and on. This is a big problem with an addict.... I no longer do drugs, but I get addicted to everything else I do... except saving money...lol Thanks for your concern. I agree Safety First!1 point

Water, water, water... and then more water... you'll feel MUCH better Yes, the battery will not matter for the coil, single or dual... what matters is Ohm's Law... The higher the resistance of the coil, the lower the wattage (power), considering the Voltage of the battery to be constant @ 3.7V (standard battery). For a eGo-style battery, the sweet-spot will be 1.5 or 1.8 Ohm coils. 2.0 work well too, but anything higher gives weak vapor/flavor, IMO, due to lower power1 point -

New to vaping question
Tam reacted to Earthling789 for a topic
Fancy or simple, expensive or cheap, decorative or plain... it makes no difference as long as it works for you. Many people on here are quite satisfied with an eGo-style VV battery and a few tanks they like. You just have to decide what you want, try it, and when you find what you like you're in good shape! One thing I will say, from personal experience, is that you suddenly will find yourself spending more on vaping gear than you did on smokes Fortunately, for me, I found my "happy-place" and started actually saving money in month #3. I'm one of those that have a few batteries, one MOD, and yes, 15 tanks (along with a ton of atomizers and cartomizers), lol Juice is your biggie... you may get lucky and find your "one" quickly, but the quest to find your favorite flavors, vg/pg ratios, manufacturer, etc. is part of the fun....1 point -

Welcome to the club! Hand-to-mouth satisfaction is one of the hardest things to kick when you stop smoking... glad to see you've found a better alternative to satisfy those cravings, instead of going back to smoking! As many on there will tell you, Nicotine is not the enemy, but since you know you no longer crave the nicotine, sticking with 0mg is fantastic!1 point -

Grailhunter, you sound a lot like me... a few months ago, I couldn't tell you the difference between an eGo and an Eggo, and I thought an Atomizer was something to spritz purfume but all the info and friendly assistance on here has really helped me to define and refine my vaping needs. If not for the folks here on this forum, I'd still be buying over-priced knock-offs and weak juices from the local B&M, or I'd be back on analogs.... So, I'd like to join you in saying, "Thank You!" to everyone... for your support, your knowledge, and your friendship!1 point -
Hi everyone!
Lis reacted to Christopher for a topic
What you're actually talking about are product codes. Let me copy and paste this from CreigHB (I've quoted this before) It's 4am and easier than typing it all out IMR is a product code. "I" stands for Lithium-Ion, "M" stands for the Manganese based chemistry, and "R" stands for rechargeable. ICR is again a product code. Same as before except "C" stands for the Cobalt based chemistry. Only the round cells commonly use these designators. There are flat cells or prismatic cells that use a Li-Ion chemsitry, but it's usually polymer based (plastic). I've never even seen the code designator for that. Everybody just calls them LiPo cells. High drain means that the cell can handle high output currents. ICR cells are usually limited to 2 times the charge capacity in output drain. So, for example, a 750mAh 14500 ICR cell would be limited to two times 750mA or 1.5A. This is why this type of cell must be protected. It has the lowest drain capability and the highest volatility or flammability in composition. IMR cells typically have an 8C drain limit which is 8 times the charge capacity. A IMR 14500 with 600mAh can handle 4.8A. This chemistry is less volatile than the Cobalt chemistry and has much higher drain limits so they are typically not protected internally. Though, they should have some kind of external protection because they can burn too, just not as easily. LiPo and prsimatic cells can range in drain limit anywhere form 1/2C to 60C. They are slightly less volatile than ICR and a little more than IMR. They are typically not protected internally and should have external protection electronics. These are the type of cells you find in digital cameras and cell phones. Generally speaking, you only use an IMR cell when the device specifically calls for one. IMR cells are required for boosters (single cell VV or VW) because boosters require higher drain. With a booster, you're going from lower voltage to higher voltage. That means you're going from higher current to lower current. IMR cells may also be required for unregulated mods if the cell is small. For example, you are limited to 1.5A with an ICR 14500. If you want to use an LR atty with a cell that size, you need an IMR cell. In the end, the size of your cell boils down to what you want in run time versus size. That's always the big trade-off. If you want a smaller device with a smaller cell, you'll have less run time. If you want more run time, you'll have to tolerate a larger device with a larger cell. Size numbers are based on a metric scale. An 18650 is 18mm x 65.0mm. A 14500 is 14mm x 50.0 mm. A 14500 happens to be the same size as an AA battery.1 point -
