Sweets makers work to keep names off e-cigarettes
Compenstine and one other reacted to Jeffb for a topic
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/sweets-makers-keep-names-off-e-cigarettes-130705662--finance.html Owners of brands geared toward children of all ages are battling to keep notable names like Thin Mint, Tootsie Roll and Cinnamon Toast Crunch off the flavored nicotine used in electronic cigarettes. Now the owners of those trademarks are fighting back to make sure their brands aren't being used to sell an addictive drug or make it appealing to to children. General Mills Inc., the Girl Scouts of the USA and Tootsie Roll Industries Inc. are among several companies that have sent cease-and-desist letters to makers of the liquid nicotine demanding they stop using the brands and may take further legal action if necessary. The actions highlight the debate about the array of flavors available for the battery-powered devices that heat a liquid nicotine solution, creating vapor that users inhale. The Food and Drug Administration last month proposed regulating electronic cigarettes but didn't immediately ban on fruit or candy flavors, which are barred for use in regular cigarettes because of the worry that the flavors are used to appeal to children. It's growing pains for the industry that reached nearly $2 billion in sales last year in the face of looming regulation. E-cigarette users say the devices address both the addictive and behavioral aspects of smoking without the thousands of chemicals found in regular cigarettes. There are about 1,500 e-liquid makers in the U.S. and countless others abroad selling vials of nicotine from traditional tobacco to cherry cola on the Internet and in retail stores, often featuring photos of the popular treats. Using the brand name like Thin Mint or Fireball conjures up a very specific flavor in buyers' minds, in a way that just "mint chocolate" or "cinnamon" doesn't. "Using the Thin Mint name — which is synonymous with Girl Scouts and everything we do to enrich the lives of girls — to market e-cigarettes to youth is deceitful and shameless," Girl Scouts spokeswoman Kelly Parisi said in a statement. The issue of illegally using well-known brands on e-cigarette products isn't new for some. For a couple of years, cigarette makers R.J. Reynolds Tobacco and Philip Morris USA have fought legal battles with websites selling e-cigarette liquid capitalizing on their Camel and Marlboro brand names and imagery. The companies have since released their own e-cigarettes but without using their top-selling brand names. "It's the age-old problem with an emerging market," said Linc Williams, board member of the American E-liquid Manufacturing Standards Association and an executive at NicVape Inc., which produces liquid nicotine. "As companies goes through their maturity process of going from being a wild entrepreneur to starting to establish real corporate ethics and product stewardship, it's something that we're going to continue to see." Williams said his company is renaming many of its liquids to names that won't be associated with well-known brands. Some companies demanded NicVape stop using brand names such as Junior Mints on their liquid nicotine. In other cases, the company is taking proactive steps to removing imagery and names like gummy bear that could be appealing to children. "Unfortunately it's not going to change unless companies come in and assert their intellectual property," he said. And that's what companies are starting to do more often as the industry has rocketed from thousands of users in 2006 to several million worldwide, bringing the issue to the forefront. "We're family oriented. A lot of kids eat our products, we have many adults also, but our big concern is we have to protect the trademark," said Ellen Gordon, president and chief operating officer of Tootsie Roll Industries Inc. "When you have well-known trademarks, one of your responsibilities is to protect (them) because it's been such a big investment over the years." ___2 points -

Battery Died after coil rebuild
Mtdobies reacted to bcartervol98 for a topic
I would probably just buy pre-made coils until you gain sufficient experience to rebuild. I do not rebuild but see threads like this on a daily basis. Do you have an ohm meter? I think you need to be at least 1.5 ohms to get a standard Ego battery to fire. I am not an expert on rebuilding but only two weeks in I am not so sure trying to rebuild is the best or safest thing to do. Maybe some of those that rebuild can chime in here, but you may have burned the battery up by having too low a resistance in your coil. This is, again I think, the exact thing that can cause a battery to explode and it is better to have 2 hands than 1.1 point -
I've read the threads about how long it takes to receive goods from fastech. And I've read that ordering batteries can hold up shippment from getting through customs. I figure the best way around that problem is to order batteries from within the US. My question is if there is anything else I can order from fastech that will cause a shipment to be held up or not shipped at all?1 point

Top Vapor from Madvapes is the first brand of E-Liquid I have ever tried and I love it! According to the website it is a 80/20 VG/PG blend. I bought the Blueberry flavor and the Lemon-Lime Soda Flavor. Both are great but man, wow, the Blueberry tastes sooo good that I am trying to save it until I run out of everything else I have or at least save it for a while. The throat hit and vapor production are outstanding. Madvapes.com is a website that sells everything you need to get started vaping and to re-supply but I was fortunate to find an actual Madvapes retail store not far from my home, about 8 minutes or less depending on traffic. This is where I bought my first personal vaporizer for a great price. I am really bummed out about the whole FDA situation because I have fallen in love with vaping but according to the girl that works at the store they won't have to close, we'll see how true that is in the future, I sure hope she's right. Anyway, if you haven't heard of this website you should give their juice a try, they have two brands, Top Vapor, the one I tried and another more premium brand called Lion's Head which I assume is just as good or better. Thanks for reading and vape on!!1 point

Last week was quite the emotional ride for us. It all started on Tuesday when I took my 11month old chiweenie puppy (He was a rescue) in for his "get that dog fixed" surgery. Unfortunately, he passed away during surgery, Deep down in our hearts we feel there was something NOT being said by the vet's office, that Baxter's death was preventable. A healthy puppy doesn't just suddenly die during surgery, he had a clean bill of health the week before. Hmm. But I digress. I knew despite mourning Baxter, I needed to start looking for my next "furbaby". I immediately started looking for another puppy. There was such a "hole in my heart" I couldn't see our lives without a dog in it! WELL, I found one! Yesterday I picked up my 9 week old pup, Maxwell. It's like having a baby in the house again! He is adorable. And a good alarm clock I have to say! I am in love with these little bundles of energy. The Chiweenie (in case you aren't aware) is half dachshund and half chihuahua. Comical with their big 'bat' ears and little 'rat' tails just a waggin'. So we are once again a "full" house and loving every minute of it!1 point

The Evod starter kit worked wonders for me. I was a two pack a day smoker and was worried that vaping wouldn't cut it. One of the guys at a local vape shop set me up with the Evod kit and 30ml of 30mg " My Boro" liquid. It didn't taste exactly like a cig, but it worked wonders! Three months off the butts. Best thing I ever did for my health. Good luck bro!1 point -

Best way to re-polish/ renew your mod?
Joshuab3687 reacted to Richstag for a topic
The thing is with brass and carbon steels is the layer of oxidation will build to the point that it begins to prevent corrosion. Trying to keep these polished is harder than forming a nice patina. If you want to protect it without a curing/hardening coating try renwax. It will actual build as you apply more coats. If the alcohol doesn't brighten it up as much as you want then you need to move to polishing. I used to be a polishing fool but I learned the oils in my skin are too corrosive to make it worth it. Patina vs no patina is an age old debate with advantages in both directions.1 point -

The crazy thing is that the build was very well done, and perfectly wrapped. He definitely wasn't that much of a newb at building coils. If you are going to build a coil setup for a customer you need to first ask some questions. Like, what battery is being used? How experienced is the vaper? If they aren't very experienced, you need to give them something simple, and not the latest craze. I know I'm one of the rare types, who started small and slowly worked my way up the chain. I didn't pick up a mech and an RDA until I had researched the hell out of building and safety. Even when I entered the waters, I entered very slow and cautious. Yes of course I wanted to blow huge clouds, but I wasn't going to jump head first without being experienced enough to swim without any fear of drowning. These new vapers want huge clouds, and they want them NOW. The shops want repeat customers and sales, and if you don't give the customer what they want when they want it, they will go elsewhere. We just need to slow down. One thing I learned from construction and carpentry is that you measure TWICE and cut ONCE.1 point -

My brother had the IGO-W I lent him rebuilt at the local vape bar. He called me, asking me why his mod and fire button were getting scorching hot everytime he took a vape. I told him to stop using it and asked what the resistance was. He said he didn't know. I then asked if they checked it with a meter after it was rebuilt. He said no, they didn't. WTF! ?! I told him to use my meter and let me know what it reads..... .06ohm. He is running a Sony VTC4, which is only safe down to .2ohm, any lower and you are in the red zone. I checked the build this morning and they did a dual 4 wrap parallel with 24g Kanthal. What kinda idiot would do that?? The whole point of a parallel build is that it gives you MORE surface area with less resistance. I went down to the shop with my brother and spoke with my friend, the owner, and told him to have a nice and informative discussion with his staff on safety.1 point -

Well said Bebop... I second the recommendation for a Kanger EVOD starter kit... either with the standard 650mAh batteries or 1000mAh twists. If I'm not mistaken, these kits come with everything you need, including 5 or 7 atomizer coil/heads... Just buy your e-juice and you'll be on your way! There are other good starter kits out there, too... but the EVOD kits are probably the best 'bang-for-your-buck'.1 point -
For someone brand new to vaping I always recommend starting with a starter kit. It gives you all the basic supplies you need to get going. Unfortunately, starter kits can be confusing and vary widely too. I recommend getting the Evod starter kit you can find right here at the vapor talk store. It's a kit that performs well, is competitively priced and will be useful for the next 6months while you read up and educate yourself on vaping to see if you want to explore further the possibilities of vaping. Once you buy this kit, you will need to purchase juice for refilling your tanks and you will need to buy "coils" which are the replaceable heating element that fits in your tank. They have a short life, usually lasting anywhere from a week to 3 weeks depending on the juice you are vaping. The coil that comes with the kit I mentioned is very popular and very available. Juice: Juice is VERY subjective and I'm not kidding. You may read a review about how amazing a juice tastes and you may hate it. You are just going to have to experiment. Best is if you have a local shop where you can test to your liking. In the liquid reviews section there are lots of good recommendations. Nicotine - if you are a smoker trying to quit nicotine levels in the juice are critical to your success. Please tell your smoking habits and I will advise further. I recommend you read all the stickies in each sub forum for further education. Some of them are a little outdated and do not contain the most modern equipment but the general idea is there. Ask questions in the main forum to clarify. Start with the sticky that covers the terminology of vaping. There are a lot of words to know so you understand what everybody is talking about. Until you understand the basics and have some experience with vaping, I would avoid any of the over complicated aspects of vaping like advanced personal vaporizers, "mods" , building your own coils and such. That's just advice for now. Tell us more about your history and purpose for vaping? Do you know what kind your friend has?1 point

Feh. While I was trying to edit the above review, the thing timed out on me. Thankfully, I copied the text. After reading the earlier reviews I let the Buttered Popcorn e-liquid steep for a couple of weeks before trying. The first time out it tasted just like a bowl of freshly popped buttery popcorn. At first I was skeptical that an e-liquid could get this flavor right. Wow. I'm a believer! It hits great from the first time to now (half an hour of steady vaping later). With this I don't have to worry about picking popcorn kernels out of my teeth or greasy fingers. A definite keeper. Mint Medley Original Flavor: It's a bit too heavy on the winter green flavor for me (I'm not a fan of this type of mint), but the other mint flavors in it kept me vaping this juice for quite some time. I think, if you like Life Savers' winter green, you'll love this one. Cinnamon Stick Signature Flavor: It tastes like the perfect blend of real cinnamon and a touch of sweet. After vaping this one it made me want to get a fresh, hot sopapilla and put a little honey and then sprinkle a little bit of this flavor on it. Mmmmm. All the other cinnamon flavors I've ever tried have all had that red hots candy taste to them so I was a little hesitant to try this one. It's more of a bakery type of cinnamon and utterly delicious! Could become an all day vape for me. Apple Cider Signature Flavor: Take a ripe Golden Delicious apple and add a few spices to make fresh apple cider. That's what this tastes like. Of all the apple flavors I've tried, this one tastes like a real apple to me. So much so that it makes my mouth water when I take a draw. It has a nice, smooth flavor, no one thing stands out so it's perfectly blended. Mellow Spice Signature Flavor: Just like the name, this one is mellow, it's smooth, the spices are blended so well that it will keep you vaping for a long time just trying to single out each one. This could easily become an all day vape for me, it's not a flavor that I will get tired of after a few days. Now, I just need to get some more of this... Killer Clove Signature Flavor: This one is definitely not for me. After trying to vape it for about 15 minutes my tongue went numb, it feels like when you take a spoonful of soup that's too hot and it scalds your tongue. It may be a good flavor for someone else, it just isn't a good fit for me. All the Signature flavors have little bits of things floating inside like a tiny stick of cinnamon, a ball of something else, a little floaty something else... it's what really makes these flavors stand out from others.1 point

Spiced Apple (Signature Flavor) 12 mg This flavor was absolutely on par with the Apple Cider. Truthfully, if I had to choose (and I do, I can't get them BOTH), I would choose the Apple Cider, but the Spiced Apple was wonderful, too. Same presentation in the bottle, and the taste lingers in your mouth a bit, and for me, at least, the taste made my mouth water, and made me hungry.1 point
