House payment
Rixter and 2 others reacted to Crazyavonlady for a topic
So figuring some things out..... Here in MD our brands of cigarettes run about $7.01 per pack. We each smoked 2 packs a day, so $14.02 each per day. Multiply that by 2, you get $28.04 spent per day in cigarettes. Counting 30 days per month, that's $841.20. Subtract $100 per month for vape supplies (because we are cheap and stick with the same stuff), that brings it to $741.20. Add what we currently pay in rent ($545), and you get $1286.20. My sister in law pays $1300 a month for her house. So instead of renting, we could theoretically be buying a house right now! Granted, we own our mobile home and pay lot rent, but it would be nice to not live where we are living. When we realized this, it made us sick to our stomachs. Smoking not only lowers your quality of health, it also lowers your quality of LIFE! When my husband told his mom, she was sick. But honestly, when you're addicted to something, you don't think about the cost. You only think about the cost once you quit doing what you were doing. And now that we know, I doubt we will EVER go back to analogs.3 points -

I use a protank 2 with 2.5 ohm coils on an MVP 2 and a protank 2 mini at 1.8 ohm on my 3.7 volt regulated eGo batteries. I will probably get beat down for this, but as of yesterday I am only ordering 1.8 ohm coils. Why? Less crap to deal with and I get the same vape at less wattage on my MVP v2 with the 1.8 ohm coils as I was getting with the 2.5 ohm coils at higher wattage. Just remember it is about what works for you. After 5 years of vaping this just seems best for me.2 points -
Weight Loss
LuckiStarre reacted to Joshuab3687 for a topic
I started vaping and quit smoking Nov 27,2013. At that time I weighed 245 lbs. Well, here I am almost 3 months later and no stinkies at 227 lbs! I'm not one who was ever overly concerned with my weight. I only step on the scale a couple times a year. But just a few minutes ago my wife commented that she thinks I'm losing weight. She somehow got me on the scale and .... WOW!!! 18lbs lighter! Anyone else have this pleasant little side effect of vaping?1 point -

I've got Joye eGo batteries I bought when they first came out almost 4 years ago that charge up and perform well to this day. I've only a couple die over the years and all but 1 suffered an instant death. The 1 just slowly faded away. I have several twists and have only had 1 fail because it suffered a hard drop and the button jammed. Have I used those original eGo's everyday for almost 4 years? No. When I did use them exclusively I had several in rotation. In the last few months I've started using them again because they're very pocketable for work and travel. I can't see myself carting around what appears to be a large 'marital aid' when I'm at work or other settings.1 point

How long till you needed to replace your battery?
Compenstine reacted to BirdDog for a topic
As I get older, my days and years run together. The original eGo batteries are actually older than 2 years. Probably closer to 3 years. I also have a eGo PT, the larger version (1000?), closer to the 2 years old. The thing will not die. I didn't use it as a PT much, it made my computer act strangely. I also had the same experience that you had not too long ago with an Evod tank. Awesome! I have an old box of LR cartos that I will be using with that battery. As a side note, I cracked my first tank today. Pretty sure it wasn't the fault of the current liquid. Can't remember what I had in there last. I have a feeling it was due to dropping. Really had to take a good look at it, almost thought a cat hair ended up in the tank. But a milestone in itself!1 point -

You just peaked my curiosity so I got out the very second battery I ever bought: an eGo 650 passthrough. Popped a Davide mini on it and...it works like a charm! This one was bought nearly two years ago. ETA: How strange. My Davide mini works better -- as in I'm getting a better draw, more vapor, better flavor -- than on my Vision Spinners. Huh. Sometimes it's best to go back to the simpler things.1 point

For all my Anyvape Davide minis on Vision Spinners I use 1.8 ohm coils exclusively. Also in the full sized Davide and Kanger Pro Tank 2 I use the 1.8 ohm coils. For the full sized Davide on my iTaste VTR mod I use 2.5 ohm coils but prefer the 1.8 personally. If you like it, that's what you should use. Don't let anyone tell you that it's wrong or to use something else when it's what works best for you.1 point -

hookahhighness reacted to Compenstine for a topic
No we don't. The FDA has no regulations in place this is why Juice makers, reputable juice makers, regulate them self's closely. It is scary when I see things added to juice that don't need to be added. Or, see juice at bargain basement prices. I would rather buy top notch ingredients and charge a little more than cut corners to make it cheap. I have spent many hours over 4 years researching what goes into my juice. If an ingredient don't pass my scrutiny, it will not be in my juice. For example, I ordered some Belgian Waffle flavor from one of my flavoring resources. When I saw that it had a lot of sediment floating in the bottle, I rejected it. I'm sure it is fine for other uses, but I will not be using it for E-Liquid.1 point -

Okay, since no one's jumped in yet, HOW new to vaping? Congratulations for adopting a healthier habit than smoking......but brand new to vaping, I would stay far, far away from DIY juice. Other than the whole nature of it, the precautions required (and the dangers if certain chemicals are handled wrong), etc., there is the simple fact that your tastebuds are still, essentially, healing, and what you like can change from month to month, not to mention one week to the next right now.1 point

Up your voltage to 3.7 and then its all about finding the juice you like. 50/50 mix of pg/vg a good place to start for balance of flavor to vapor production.1 point -
3.7 volts is the industry "standard" in basic vaping. Any device that puts out a fixed voltage (isn't variable) is putting out roughly 3.7 volts. Generally it's the perfect balance of power to the heating element (coil) that produces enough heat to give you good vapor. If you wanted to cook an egg, you could cook it on "low" and wait 15mins- but that's too long. If you cook it on "high" you burn the outside before it cooks in the middle. So somewhere there is a happy medium that balances the cooking time with thorough cooking. Same with vaporizing. 3.7 volts is the "medium" temp that gives you a nice vape. BUT... Not all juices are created equal. And not all heating elements (coils) are created equal. Some juices can stand a little more heat and still taste good or even better. Some guys smarter than us figured out how to make custom heating coils that can vaporize lots of juice and produce big vapor and lots of taste. And so Variable Voltage was born. With variable voltage you can cook on medium low or stir fry your juice on high, but it requires a proper set up with coil and juice to make a difference. For most of us "regular vapers" we will never vary our voltage outside of roughly 3.7 - 4.0 volts. In a regular off the shelf coil and tank set up 3.7 volts is the sweet spot and the only variation is the juice. Some juices can take a little more voltage and taste good. Some juices don't like a higher temp (in an off the shelf set up). Variable voltage give you the ability to finely adjust your voltage to your juice. When you get in to advanced vaping and building your own coils then Variable voltage gives you lots more "playground". You can build super duper coils that can take high voltage and throw massive clouds but this requires more skill and technique and an aptitude for electronics and tinkering that a lot of people don't want to be bothered with to be safe. (Safety is a factor when dealing with advanced set ups. If you don't know what you are doing you can create an ego pipe bomb - I'm being dramatic) Devices like the Vamo described above are slightly more advanced than a fixed voltage e-cig and are relatively safe because the tanks you put on top of them are still off-the-shelf and user friendly. But they do give you the variability to adjust voltage just like the ego twist or the vision spinner style batteries. They come with a few more features and bells and whistles and they are cool looking and match larger tanks and such. Wattage - the short version is that the term wattage is used to describe the power that is generated when you put a certain voltage across a coil or heating element. When you "vary the wattage" you are still just "varying the voltage". It's looking at the same equation from two different sides and relatively meaningless to the average vaper. Hope that helps a little.1 point

Why We Choose To Vape....
LuckiStarre reacted to Uma for a topic
I dont want to see the next generation smoking ... thats why i vape. I'd much rather see a minor see what the fuss is all about, get bored, and walk away without addiction, than to see that minor experiment with a cigarette and be imprisoned for life. The nicotine in an ecig is delivered at lower and slower paces than it is in a traditional. After a minor tastes these, then try a traditional, theyll never pick up another traditional again., they taste horrible in comparison. Save the children, via vaping. Put the smoke tax money back in the family budget, keep a roof over their head, keep your job. We DO care for the children, unlike the antz who want to deny shelter, employment, health care, insurance if anyone even looks at something that is not run by big pharma and the fda.1 point -
Why We Choose To Vape....
LuckiStarre reacted to HelloMiakoda for a topic
I hate this statement. What about a toddler drinking my bleach, my 409, eating my bottle of prescription medication, the fatally poisonous chemicals I use with my electronics, eating my batteries, The list goes on! What about caffeine? I've ODed on caffeine! (I didn't know you could, at the time. What a trip, don't ever do it) What about alcohol? You can OD on that too. The world is full of things that if used, abused, or carelessly let fall in to the hands of small children, will cause death. I have no children, so I don't do much to "child proof" anything. (Actually, given my love of experimenting with electricity, my home would be a child's death trap. Shock hazards, chocking hazards, poisoning hazards... don't bring your kids here) If I did have kids, e-liquids would be secured with my alcohol. The FDA loves to "over protect" and ruin good things.1 point -
Why We Choose To Vape....

I didn't read thru even the entire first post in this thread, simply because I had to stop and look in shock and awe at one particular comment. You said you think that the FDA cares about us and is in this fight for the health of the people... This is complete BS. I'm not calling you out, suggesting that you're dumb or anything at all like that. But they certainly do not care about us. If they did, there is no conceivable reason for them to do what they've been doing(seizing shipments, spreading all kinds of lies and BS about e-cigs being dangerous or potentially dangerous). We KNOW for a fact that cigarettes are TERRIBLE for us, yet the FDA allows them to be sold. Meanwhile, here comes a much safer alternative, and what do they do? They say that because they haven't been proven completely safe(wtf is 100% safe anyway?), that they should be pulled from the market until they can be proven completely safe, despite the fact that cigarettes, in contrast, have been proven 100% NOT safe, yet they're allowed to be there. This is all about money and complaints from either the tobacco industry, the pharmaceutical industry, doctors who get kickbacks, or a combination of all three. These are NOT marketed to kids. These are NOT nicotine-cessation devices. Despite the common belief that apparently adults don't like or deserve candy, THEY DO. These are also not drug delivery devices. What about 0 nic juice? And even WITH nicotine in the juice, if this is a drug delivery device, then so are cigarettes. So is a coffee mug. So is an aluminum can. We can be ridiculous about this and start calling everything that aids you in the ingestion, inhalation, or absorption of ANYTHING a drug delivery device, or we can just end the madness and give smokers a much healthier alternative to smoking that still allows them to get the nicotine they crave. It also allows them the option to actually quit because it addresses the hand-to-mouth action, it addresses the "smoke" aspect, and it provides lower levels of nicotine and even 0 nicotine juices. There are cigarettes with lower nicotine(or at least that's what I THINK "lights," which we can't call them anymore are), but there aren't any with ZERO nicotine. And now thanks to new legislature, if one were to try smoking lower nicotine cigarettes, it's much more confusing because we can't call them lights or mediums or whatever anymore. Gums, patches, and pills have a horrible success rate. Only the e-cigarette has a success rate higher than 20%(which is probably being incredibly generous to other methods of quitting), and it wasn't even intended as an aid for quitting. That's saying something. That's powerful. THAT is why all this crap is going on, because it is so great. The FDA sees this. The FDA knows this. Doctors know this. The pharmaceutical industry knows this, and so does big tobacco. The government wants e-cigs gone because they're losing tax money. The Pharmaceutical industry wants e-cigs gone because they're competition to the gums, patches, and pills that don't work. Big tobacco wants e-cigs gone because they're competition to cigarettes, and (some)doctors want e-cigs gone because it prevents them from getting as many dr. visits, prescribing as many drugs, and in turn, getting as many kickbacks. Basically, for every person that wants e-cigs gone, they have a financial interest in their removal from the market. It's THAT simple. And every single thing I ever hear about the FDA points to the fact that they absolutely ARE NOT for our benefit. They don't want us to be healthy. Keeping us unhealthy is what keeps their wallets full. Same goes for doctors and pharmaceutical and insurance companies.1 point -

Absolutely fascinating conversation. I understand and commend you for wanting to help people make the healthiest decisions possible re getting off nicotine. However, I was pretty bowled over by the line in your new disclaimer stating that "Nicotine Causes Cancer". I've searched high and low for any evidence that nicotine alone causes cancer and have found nothing credible to suggest that nicotine alone, apart from smoking, causes cancer. Yes, there might be trace amounts of potentially carcinogenic nitrosamines in the production of nicotine, but there's been no evidence that such a low level of nitrosamines actually causes cancer. Does Nicorette gum carry the warning label for causing cancer? I am a bit confused as to why that statement, "Nicotine Causes Cancer", is there. Further, while we all know of nicotine's addictive properties, if it doesn't cause other negative health effects, why such eagerness to get people off it? There are only two reasons that I can think of: 1. Nicotine addiction still "an addiction" and all addiction is "a disease"; 2. Without the e-cig satisfying the nicotine craving, someone would jump back to cigarettes to satisfy that nicotine in a heartbeat. As for nicotine addiction as "a disease", yes, that is a good model to use for a medical professional looking a treatment options. And it is a good reason for keeping the next generation from getting hooked. But, if it causes no ill effects to the physical health of the addict, then I'd say it probably ought to be pretty low on the list of addictions for people to feel a need to "cure". The best I think that we can hope for (collectively) in this generation is harm reduction. Even many anti-smoking groups have given up on seeking perfection in human behavior and have instead adopted a harm reduction strategy. The second issue is what I think is the really tough issue. E-cigs with nicotine make it easy to quit analogs, but until the nicotine addiction is cured, the leap back to analogs from e-cigs is way too easy. We haven't broken any of the major behavioral links to smoking --still have the hand to mouth habit -- and still have the addiction to nicotine. The very thing that makes vaping nicotine an effective smoking replacement (it similarity to smoking) is the very thing that makes returning to smoking an easier leap. So ultimately, until we ultimately wean ourselves off of nicotine, we are easy marks for returning to smoking.1 point
