3.7 volts is the industry "standard" in basic vaping. Any device that puts out a fixed voltage (isn't variable) is putting out roughly 3.7 volts. Generally it's the perfect balance of power to the heating element (coil) that produces enough heat to give you good vapor. If you wanted to cook an egg, you could cook it on "low" and wait 15mins- but that's too long. If you cook it on "high" you burn the outside before it cooks in the middle. So somewhere there is a happy medium that balances the cooking time with thorough cooking. Same with vaporizing. 3.7 volts is the "medium" temp that gives you a nice vape. BUT... Not all juices are created equal. And not all heating elements (coils) are created equal. Some juices can stand a little more heat and still taste good or even better. Some guys smarter than us figured out how to make custom heating coils that can vaporize lots of juice and produce big vapor and lots of taste. And so Variable Voltage was born. With variable voltage you can cook on medium low or stir fry your juice on high, but it requires a proper set up with coil and juice to make a difference. For most of us "regular vapers" we will never vary our voltage outside of roughly 3.7 - 4.0 volts. In a regular off the shelf coil and tank set up 3.7 volts is the sweet spot and the only variation is the juice. Some juices can take a little more voltage and taste good. Some juices don't like a higher temp (in an off the shelf set up). Variable voltage give you the ability to finely adjust your voltage to your juice. When you get in to advanced vaping and building your own coils then Variable voltage gives you lots more "playground". You can build super duper coils that can take high voltage and throw massive clouds but this requires more skill and technique and an aptitude for electronics and tinkering that a lot of people don't want to be bothered with to be safe. (Safety is a factor when dealing with advanced set ups. If you don't know what you are doing you can create an ego pipe bomb - I'm being dramatic) Devices like the Vamo described above are slightly more advanced than a fixed voltage e-cig and are relatively safe because the tanks you put on top of them are still off-the-shelf and user friendly. But they do give you the variability to adjust voltage just like the ego twist or the vision spinner style batteries. They come with a few more features and bells and whistles and they are cool looking and match larger tanks and such. Wattage - the short version is that the term wattage is used to describe the power that is generated when you put a certain voltage across a coil or heating element. When you "vary the wattage" you are still just "varying the voltage". It's looking at the same equation from two different sides and relatively meaningless to the average vaper. Hope that helps a little.3 points

I would say the Vamo, the Sigelei Zmax, the MVP (box mod), the SVD, all good APVs to start out with. As Irwink said, with MOST of those, you will have to purchase separate batteries and a charger (depending on how much you vape, I would say at least two 18650 batteries, I started out with three, just to be safe), and a good quality charger - I prefer the Nitecore intellicharger. The MVP comes with a built in battery, but you'd need to use your existing VV battery while the MVP is charging (which doesn't actually take that long).1 point -

Best advice I can give ya brother is a Mvp with a aspire nautilus tank. But if you don't like box mods I'd go with something like a vamo. Watch grimmgreens videos on vv and vw. He is my favorite guy to watch and is awesome at explaining1 point -
I think everyone has days like that. There was one particular day that I only took two batteries with tankfuls of juice in them. One coil died and the other was going -- fast. Just happened that on that day I didn't have any back ups with me like I usually do. Then a battery died and I discovered that I left my usual back up battery at home. After that I just turned around and went back home. With things going south that fast for me I decided that I would be better off staying home for the rest of the day. Hope the rest of your day went much smoother!1 point

Just me but I would strongly suggest against buying from ebay. You don't know the quality of the items you're going to get. Go with a reputable vendor, you won't go wrong there. If you're getting very little vapor it could be that you have a juice with a high PG (propylene glycol) and low VG (vegetable glycerine). High PG is a thinner juice, harder throat hit, but better flavor carrier. A high VG juice will give you more vapor but it's thicker so it tends to gunk up coils faster, and is slightly sweeter. For a beginner I would recommend a 50/50 blend so you get the best of both worlds. The amount of nicotine could also influence how harsh the vapor is for you. A higher nic level gives harsher throat hit. Depending on how much and what kind of cigarette you used to smoke you need to start at a fairly high level to get you off the analogs. Once you're comfortable and not missing them so much you can drop the nic level a little at a time. Liberty-Flights is a good company that I've dealt with in buying some gear in the past and they have a UK designation. http://www.liberty-flights.com/products.asp This might be a better alternative to ebay? Oh, and the bad tasting liquid you had? Sometimes juices need time to steep. This means you take off the cap, put it into a dark, cool place away from where pets and children can get to it, let it sit anywhere from a few days to a few weeks but remember to shake the bottle daily. Some juices that taste really bad will change in flavor to become your favorite if allowed to age (steep) for a bit. Also, another thing to keep in mind is that you've been smoking for some time. With your change to vaping your taste buds will be recovering and you'll start tasting things better/differently. The longer you vape you'll come to notice that you begin to gain your sense of taste back so what tastes bad to you now may taste better later. Just a thought.1 point

As much as I wanted to like Mt. Baker Vaper's juices, none of them tasted good to me even after letting them steep for a month or more. It's just my tastebuds and they don't seem to mix well with them. Many others love their flavors. Fadora Vapor is having a 20% sale on all their signature line of juices right now until Feb. 28th. I just ordered several bottles. Compenstine from our forum is the owner. In the Signature line you have the option to have him put in real spices into the juice, which to me, makes it taste soooo much better.1 point -

I love Twisted builds! Just wish I could go dual twisted in my Patriot. I could drill the posts bigger, but I ain't gonna. I'll wait till I get my patriot clones in to do that. I don't wanna screw up my authentic one. I don't feel bad about ruining a $6 clone, but my wife would hurt me if I mess up a $60 one! Lol1 point -

Hi Vapor Talkers, My name is David and I am from London, United Kingdom; been vaping since Christmas and I have complete fallen in love with it. Actually have no time for cigarettes any more, mostly because I no longer need to lighter, but more important they actually far better in my opinion. At the moment I used starter kit by Vapourlties which I picked up in The Range, a store here in the UK, and has served me well. Just ordered a Innokin Taste 134 and counting down the minutes until it arrives! Moving on up. Here to find out a little bit more about what is going on in the US, as I believe you guys are somewhat ahead of the curve, hence finding out about the Innokin and mods. Hopefully will get mote and more UK folk to join the chit chat here and learn a thing or two about vaping. Please say hi and drop me a message to introduce yourself. I will say hi back, eventually , as I am particularly unpunctual. Lots of Love, From Sunny (yeah right) UK, David The Vapist1 point -
Another thing I had been thinking of in wanting to get a mod is...I thought it would be more cost effective to just have to buy single batteries rather than buying new eGos or whatever when the old ones wear out. It's all still cheaper than smoking...1 point

Diluted Ethyl Maltol is considered cotton candy flavor. Perhaps add a very little cherry and you should be close. You can buy EM in crystal form and make your own or just buy cotton candy flavor. I got my last bottle from MBV. Can use as sweetener for almost any recipe.1 point

That's why I asked you to post exactly what you're buying because even though things are labeled "ego" and "ce4" and so forth they are not all equal. Just my opinion but you shouldn't go cheap on batteries or tanks. Not cheap in the long run.1 point

You can put whatever you want on a mech mod its no different then having a regular ego but you get a better look and replaceable batteries my wife uses my k100 with pro tanks and loves the bigger size and look compared to ego style batteries1 point

Hey folks, I'm from Long Island NY and traded in the tobacco for an ego starter kit in November '13 and haven't had a cigaret , a cigar or even the desire for one since. I actually gave a cigar a try in late December, (I used to have a cigar a week at the cigar bar in town) and I put it out to Vape instead. I don't miss them one bit. I upgraded to an Itaste VV around christmas which was great for a few months but just this week got a Vamo V5 and 5 extra batteries and I'm sold on mods now. I haven't changed tanks yet. Im still vaping on the Kanger Ts3 and I'm looking to upgrade to the Aspire Nautilus which for some reason is difficult to find in stock right now. It seems like it is a very sought after tank with its great reviews.1 point -

I could care less about food coloring as long as it is food grade coloring. I am fairly certain one of my favorite flavors, Unicorn Blood, doesn't naturally become bright red lol. Also I read someone in this thread I think, been busy day, say liquids should be clear or amber if not colored BUT many liquids will darken over time or as they steep. Endless Summer is clear, almost cloudy out of the box but after a few weeks sitting it turns into a fairly bright yellow color.1 point -

Nautilus is a wonderful tank. My Nautilus+Nemeis took a 3ft drop on to hardwood and floor survived but the magnets in the Nemesis switch shattered. I picked up a Turtle Ship V2(clone) + Patriot(authentic) drip atty from a local vape shop. What's cool about the Patriot is that the positive terminal is insulated so the atty doesn't get as hot per the sales guy. My other tanks do get very warm from chain vaping.
