SmokTech RSST Simple Leak Fix
tzymroz2013 and 2 others reacted to Rixter for a topic
Anyone who owns a SmokTech RSST will probably agree that it is a really great RBA, but it does have at least one flaw...it leaks. This is something that I've seen online over and over from RSST owners, so I figured it had to be a design issue. I then set out to figure out what the problem was and how to fix it. Well, I figured it out, and the solution is a simple one. The leak occurs because Smoktech decided to go with a hard white plastic insulator where the positive posts passes through the RSST's top deck, so your juice ends up flowing right past the insulator, down the shaft, and right out the bottom into your mod's 510 connection. Why they went with a hard plastic top deck insulator instead of a soft silicone insulator/seal is beyond me, but they did. To stop your RSST from leaking, you'll need to get some of these: Silicone top-hat seals for an AGA-T2 I was unsuccessful in finding just the seals, but I did find the entire AGA-T2 replacement part kit (which includes a couple of these seals) for $2.59 from VaporCigzz. (If anyone is successful in finding just the seals, please post where you found 'em.) Once you have your silicone seals, just break down your RSST and replace the hard plastic top deck insulator with one of the soft silicone insulators/seals. Then put everything back together, fill 'er up, and enjoy leak-free vaping. I hope this helps...mine hasn't leaked a single drop since I did this. My SmokTech RSST with AGA-T2 top deck seal...no more leaks!3 points -

I felt this way too especially being in the Army, and carrying around a dainty little ego twist. I got over it pretty fast when I could smell the stench of a smoker when they walked down the hall, and I upgraded to a bigger set up. Ended up going with the iTaste SVD and a Ardamis carto tank.2 points -

I've been hearing a lot of chatter lately in the RBA community about micro-coils. For the uninformed, micro-coil means lots of wraps (10 or more) with the coils touching each other. Apparently, these touching wraps have the effect of counterbalancing the added resistance of the extra length of wire, which results in a coil resistance that isn't as high as it would be with separated coils of the same length of wire. The benefit is supposed to be more surface area of heating element, which means more vaporized juice at any given moment, which means more flavor. I've seen a lot of pictures of micro-coils on RDAs, but not much on Genesis RBAs, so I've been wondering if anybody here has had any experience with using micro-coils around a stainless steel Genesis wick. Finally found my sweet spot
Jeffb reacted to DragonGunner for a topic
I've been reading about folks finding their sweet spot with certain PV's and I've just found mine and it only took me 5 months and 5 different PV's. Gosh I've got to be the dumbest to have tried so many and for such a long time before finally finding that elusive sweet spot. I'm using the electric angel clone with a kick along with a viva nova stv tank and a 2.8 ohm atty. The juice is tasting great and the vapor is unbelievable. I'm so happy that I had to share. Now to get the hang of rebuilding my rsst genesis and I will be complete. Oh and at the moment I'm not so happy with the KPT 2. I taste metal with everything I've tried in it. Yuck. Gonna stick with the viva nova's for the time being. Have a great evening and happy vaping everyone. Thanks for all your assistance in getting me this far.1 point -
I just got notification from EmpireMods that they've started selling the legendary 901 Empire PV mechanical mod again. It can be found in a variety of new finishes here. Ready...begin.1 point

That's gorgeous Mark!! Can't wait to see the finished product. Congrats IMedic! You're going to love it, I'm sure. I have one and use it all the time, would be lost without it. One of these days I'll get another one.1 point

Aren't they great!! One one way to baby your atty is to make sure it has eliquid in it before you test the ohms. The mods have to turn the atty on to get a reading.. which is a dry burn if the atty is dry or dry-ish. The long barrel is the one I have, Rix! I hate spitting hot eLiquid, and the long barrel assures I don't get smacked in the lips with a hot spittle. Love Hanah, he's a genius. and no, I still haven't used mine until I pony up and get a spare on hand lol.1 point

Question: My Liquid seems to be losing flavor?
mcquinn reacted to bcartervol98 for a topic
Are you alternating flavors or buying one and vaping that one exclusively? If you vape one flavor too long the taste will start to go away. I switch throughout a minimum of 2 flavors throughout the day to as many as 4-5 but if I vape one flavor all day by afternoon I can hardly taste it.1 point -
It seems that today's better quality IMR batteries are capable of handling higher current levels than earlier ones, so stacking is not necessary to obtain higher power for dual coil devices. I've never had a problem doing it, but I no longer stack 18350s in my Zmax...no need to anymore.1 point

Well in my experience yes. A 1.8ohm coil should burn out faster than a 2.2ohm coil given identical circumstances and voltage. At least it seems that way not based on any scientific data or anything. Assuming you are vaping at standard 3.7v I'm not sure there is a huge difference but at 4.0 or higher there would be I would think.1 point -
I started having a little trouble with my HH.357's resistance level dropping, so I sent it back for them to check it out. Let me be clear that its performance remained outstanding. The following conversation is from my AvidVaper Help Desk and knowledge base ticket: Rixter: I just received my HH.357 Long Barrel Hybrid 510 Atomizer three days ago, and it is the best performing atty I've ever used. The only thing that concerns me is that the resistance level has slowly dropped from 2Ω to 1.7Ω, and I'm just wondering if that's normal with the HH.357. I'm using an 80PG/20VG blend, and my juices are relatively clear. Rixter: I've been using it on a Sigelei Zmax set at 8 watts. Rixter: Resistance is still dropping. It's now dropped from 2Ω to 1.5Ω after only four days of use. I figure I've dripped less than 3 ml. through it so far. Hanna Hadawar: Hey Rick, that doesnt sound good...what liquid are you using? is it dark or sweet? any dry burning for cleaning or accidental? Rixter: I've been mostly using EC Blends' Chocolate Malt, which is sort of sweet but not too dark. I have not dry burned the atty or cleaned it in any way. As I said before, I've only had it for a few days and followed all instructions on the product page to the letter. It performs remarkably well, and except for the drop in resistance, I've had no problems with it at all. I have used it exclusively on my Sigelei Zmax set to 8 watts, so the device has been adjusting its voltage to compensate for the lower resistance, but at 1.5Ω, I hesitate to use it on any of my other regulated devices. I've attached a close-up of the coil so you can see the condition of it, and also a pic of the juice I'm using in it. Hanna Hadawar: Oh yeah wow coils look great actually. thanks for sending the pics it always helps. If you would like you can send the atty to my address below and i can take a look at what is going on and get it repaired or replaced for you. Rixter: It's still dropping (now at 1.3Ω), so I'll send it back this weekend. Rixter: Hi Hanna. I mailed my HH.357 to you on 8/3/13, and USPS tracking confirms delivery on 8/6/13. I was just wondering if you've had a chance to check it out yet and figure out what's going on with the resistance drop. I'm not rushing you, but it's such a great atty that I do find myself missing it. Hanna Hadawar: Hey Rick, I do have it and I will be able to give you an update a little later this evening if that is ok with you. I will probably be able to ship something back to you tomorrow. Rixter: Thanks Hanna. Hanna Hadawar: Rick, took the atty apart, coil looked good but wick was fused solid and coil wouldnt budge. A few of the windings of wire were fused together and shorting, dropping resistance. I was able to break them free and the resistance is up to 2.1 ohm. This issue is often seen with accidental fire, prolonged dry burning or not enough liquid when vaping OR anything that would cause it to run hotter than normal repeatedly. You have said you didnt dry burn so that one is out so maybe a little more liquid is needed? It can be caused by deposits on the coil but your coil was pretty clean. I am going to rebuild this for you and send it out, just $5 for shipping, is that ok with you? Rixter: Glad you are able to repair it, and the shipping charge will be fine. Just let me know how to proceed with payment. I gotta tell you, at around $25 shipped for one atomizer, I was extremely careful not to dry burn or abuse it in any way...in fact, I babied it. The instant I didn't detect the slight gurgle of e-liquid, I added a few more drops. I also kept the power at 8 watts because that's all it took to get great taste and vapor production. I'm pretty baffled by this. Hanna Hadawar: It might not be anything you did at all, might just be the malty flavoring, I have seen a lot of liquids and with that i have seen some strange things. Everything from melting wire and plastic to conductive liquid and conductive when heated?? I cant explain it unfortunately, the HH has the same materials as any other atty but goes through liquid very quickly so if there is an issue it tends to present itself faster on the HH. Some people have chosen not to use the hh with certain liquids, others just decide that the flavor of the liquid is better than the added performance of the HH and cant justify the added price and I completely understand. That's all I have for now, but I thought everyone should be reminded that the HH.357 should never be run dry or over-heated.1 point

I just started a new job yesterday and everyone in the training smokes. The room were in literally makes me want to vomit from the odor. They looked at me a little odd when I pulled out my pv and started asking questions about it. I explained it in short and they all fluffed it off and said it will never catch on. They were amazed when the trainer came in with one in his hand. We were both at the table vaping while the smokers were twitching watching us.1 point -

Still waiting on the Red Hots and Fire and Ice to fill my other two ( one for the wife and I) but dam spearmint never tasted better. I have a sneaky suspicion cinnamon type flavors may jump to the top of my list so I am saving my KPT2 for those as well since it will be mostly my at home unit. Scheduled delivery date is Thursday! Anxious to try the Imedic Atomic Fireball but in no hurry there he has a lot going on right now I am sure.1 point -
I don't know why it didn't occur to me to change the coil on the first one when it wasn't producing any flavor. Both of the stock coils that came inside the Davides were misses. Now I know to change the coil at the first hint of trouble. The jury's still out on these but so far so good. Now, I must get some more coils...1 point

Being hard headed and not one to give up easily I decided to try the second Davide Mini to see if that would work better than the first one. The coil was DOA. No matter what I did it wouldn't fire. Replaced the coil and...wow! So this is what you guys have been talking about. I think the first one had a bad coil in it as well because once I switched it out the thing works fine and I can taste the juice inside. Better than "fine" in fact. I did have to tape one of the holes on the second one but I can live with that. The coil that was DOA is getting discected this weekend to find out what went wrong. I may have to try to see if I can rebuild the coil and wick.1 point

i am using the same coil in my kpt now for almost 6 weeks. i run through 2 tanks a day multiple flavor changes during the week and dry burn it about once a week. i prefer higher ohm coils myself, but then again im rarely below 3.8v. my sweet spot is normally 4-4.3v. you just have to try different setups and see what tickles your fancy.1 point -

The 'micro coil' thing is interesting. Seems Cisco of Avid has been at it a long time. The HH 357 atty looks about the same. Seems that Petar K also came damn close with his method. He was also the first to champion unoxidized SS wick.1 point

HH.357...Who Here Has Used One?
Nico5point0 reacted to Tam for a topic
Okay, it finally got here today. Mine is the HH.357 Cisco Spec Hybrid, 2.0 ohm, matte black, standard sized atomizer. I read the directions, blew out the primer, dabbed a little inside (very gently) to get the rest of it out, added 5 drops of juice and took an unpowered draw. Gurgled a little like it's supposed to, added a couple more drops and vaped. No flavor. But I expected this because of the lingering primer. Kept vaping in short-ish draws, added more juice, vaped some more, added more juice, vaped some more, all the while waiting in eager anticipation for the flavor to come though and blow me away. It didn't. I kept at it as I'd read that it takes some time for the break in period to finally come through. Gotta admit that I vaped myself silly and killed a battery doing it. Changed to a fully, freshly charged battery and kept trying. I finally had to put it down as I got too much nicotine in my system. After dinner I tried it again for about 20 minutes and BAM! I got a clue. Turn up the voltage, dummy. I'd set my battery at 3.8 volts as I didn't want to risk blowing the coil right off the bat. Turned up the voltage to 4.0 and...a little something. Turned it up some more to 4.3 and...WOW. Full freakin' flavor! For several months I've been stuck on EC Blend's Feels like a Nut (tastes just like an Almond Joy candy bar), and it had gotten to the point where the flavor was pretty muted even with direct dripping. With the HH.357 it's like the first time I tasted this juice. I am beyond impressed. I'm taking shorter draws than I usually do because the flavor coming through is so intense. And holy clouds of vapor, Batman! The draw is very light, almost like a Kangor Pro Tank but just a touch tighter. And did I mention the FLAVOR??? Avid Vaper just got an order for two more of these from me. Thanks, Rixter, for another most excellent recommendation. I can't believe I waited this long...1 point -

Yep but can be fun, the only way I could get the wife camping was to buy a tent that fit in the bed of my truck,so she was off the ground! We have traveled all over exploring hot springs both wild and captive (commercial) Once we spent ten days in the middle of nowhere Nevada, in November, near a hot spring well, that flowed into large metal tubs, and several other springs nearby....,very little electric, batteries and solar, only saw wild burros and pigs for a week, but still just car camping some would say.1 point

I've heard that it keeps the strain on the batteries lower using stacked vs single because the mod is now limiting the power vs boosting it. I do NOT know from experience and please don't take my word and blow yourself up! This is just what I've been hearing/reading recently. A lot of people are having great experiences stacking 18350's in the vamo. I really wish I knew enough about battery chemistry to give a constructive answer. I work with a chemical engineer and will ask him but I doubt he will even know honestly. I work in the rubber industry so I'm not sure about his experience with battery composition. I will post in a few day to let you know his opinion if he even has one. FWIW stacking IMR batteries is different than stacking CR123A's as they are different chemistry LiMn(IMR) vs LiMnO2(CR123) I don't know what that means in the operating differences but it is a definitive difference.1 point
