A Noobie’S Guide To Batteries
christov11 reacted to miatafrank for a topic
A Noobie's Guide to Batteries While in the chat room one night, someone was asking if there was a guide for batteries. He was hearing all these battery numbers in the conversation, and not familiar enough to follow along. I decided to write this guide to help familiarize the noobs to all the batteries we use for mods. All of the batteries we use are either 3.7volts or 3.0volts. There is however a 5volt battery used in the Mako Maksi, but it's not one of the popular batteries you frequently hear about, so I'll just concentrate this discussion on the 3 and 3.7volt varieties. The 3.0volt batteries are primarily used in pairs for a total of 6.0volts for 6volt vaping, and single battery mods are 3.7volts. The 3.7volt batteries are usually only paired if the mod has a voltage regulator (adjustable or fixed) for consistency in voltage throughout battery life and load conditions. Now that you have a little background on how the batteries are used, let's try to make sense out of the numbering system. The first 2 digits of the battery number indicate the dimension measuring across the battery. So a 10440 measures 10mm across, a 14500 measures 14mm across, and so forth, and the last 3 digits make reference to the length. For example the last 3 digits in a 14500 battery would suggest that the length would be 50.0mm long, but that would be for the unprotected version of the battery. The overcharge/overdischarge protection circuit will add between 2 and 3 mm to the length of the battery, so a 14500 is really 52.5mm long. Aside from the physical size of the battery, there is something referred to as mah (milliamp hour) rating. This is a capacity rating of the battery, and indicates the amount of energy the battery can store. In other words, how long it will last between charges (more mah, more charge life). Physical size will affect mah ratings, and therefore smaller size batteries will typically have lower mah ratings. Some batteries are available in more than 1 mah rating. Below is a listing of the more commonly used batteries in e-cigarette mods. **This is not meant to be a complete list, so please don't shoot me of you know of a battery I didn't list.**1 point -
Electronics 101
DJ Colonel Corn reacted to miatafrank for a topic
It's time for electronics 101, and how it applies to PVs. Current flow (measured in amps) is the movement of electrons through a conductor. These electrons are sent out by the power source (volts) to act as the workers, and resistance (measured in ohms) is in the path of current flow and will slow the electrons (workers) down. Power (measured in watts) is the measurement of work being performed in the circuit, and will always manifest itself in the form of heat (doesn't that sound like heating up an atomizer to you?). Of course too much heat (power/watts) will pop the atty. Now for the math, and I promise it's not that complicated: A physicist by the name of George Simon Ohm discovered that there is a tight relationship between voltage, current, and resistance. This relationship can be described and predicted by mathematics, which has become known as "Ohm's Law". The basic statement of this relationship is that voltage and current are directly proportional (when we increase voltage, current will increase as well), and that current and resistance are inversely proportional (when we increase resistance, current will decrease). Voltage = current multiplied by resistance Current = voltage divided by resistance Resistance = voltage divided by current Power = voltage multiplied by current Now let's apply Ohm's Law to a PV: A 3.7v device with a standard atty; Voltage 3.7v divided by an atty that is 3ohms = 1.23amps The heat produced by this is determined by the power in watts which is 3.7v multiplied by 1.23amps = 4.563watts We know this works, and we can use these numbers to compare the performance of the other combinations. A 3.7v device with a LR atty; 3.7v / 1.5ohms = 2.46amps 3.7v * 2.46amps = 9.126watts (remember, this is the heat) A 5v device with a standard atty; 5v / 3ohms = 1.66amps 5v * 1.66amps = 8.33watts (remember, this is the heat) A 5v device with a LR atty; 5v / 1.5ohms = 3.33amps 5v * 3.33amps = 16.66watts (remember, this is the heat.....POP) A 6v device with a standard atty; 6v / 3ohms = 2amps 6v * 2amps = 12watts (remember, this is the heat...on the bourder of POP) A 6v device with a HV atty; 6v / 4.3ohms = 1.395amps 6v * 1.395amps = 8.372watts (remember, this is the heat....is this really any better than a standard atty at 5v?) My ohm values for the attys are approximate, but you get the picture. This really answers all the questions "will this work with this?", "will that work with that?". I also think that anyone dabbling in making their own mods should understand these basics when choosing components that will work well together, and avoid injury.1 point -

Lets face it, we have all waisted money of flavors we absolutely hate! Well I found the solution. STOP BUYING THESE FLAVORS! I am not being paid for this and I swear you will love the flavors made by Five Pawns. They only have 5 flavors that I know of and there is no waiting around to let your flavor steep or whatever that bs is. Another option is to go to a vape store. Google your zip code and vapor store and go check it out. The one by my house will let anyone try any flavor in their store. I just got 4 flavors in the mail and I am so mad because I don't like a single flavors I got. Words like "this delicious sweet freshly picked apple will leave you speachless" is also a bunch of bs. You won't know what u like until u go sample products. But I am hooked on five pawns "queenside" liquid. It's a blood orange with vanilla flavor. Very smooth and as of now I'm not going to buy anything else.1 point

I would recomend one of the Ego iterations and a Vivi Nova tank. The liquid is just something you will to scout out for yourself as we all have different expectations.Try a few from several vendors until you find the right one for you.1 point

New to E-cigs and wasting money
Tam reacted to Christopher for a topic
I always hate seeing these threads because I feel bad about the amount of money people spend. Unfortunately most retailers are pretty uneducated when it comes to e cigarettes. A couple things, are the ecigarette are least working for you? Meaning, are they satisfying your craving? I would suggest getting an eGo Twist. This battery lasts upwards of 12+ hours and the voltage can be adjusted. (higher voltage means stronger vaper, great for when you're drinking or first thing in the morning) As for what to use to hold liquid. I would go with a Viva Nova if you don't' want to deal with constantly filling or the leaking issue. You may also want to look into cartomizers. They've been around for a while, but they still work great (I've been using cartomizers for almost 3 years and still haven't switched to anything else) How to fill a cartomizer: here. Lastly you'll want a charger: here So checklist 1. eGo twist 2. Cartomizer or Viva Nova (your preference) 3. Charger Also when you're checking out you're welcome to ask for a sample bottle of any e liquid and we'll usually throw it in This code will bring down the price 15% also: WG8848K907UY Lastly if you feel like getting really crazy, you can always look at the eVic (what I use but a bit cumbersome) > http://www.vaportalkstore.com/joye-evic/ Hope that helps!1 point -
Hi I am a fairly new to Vaping but I need some help...

Welcome to the forum! The juice makes a difference for a couple of reasons, one, some people find they are sensitive to PG based liquid (which is usually the standard base mix) it usually gives quite a harsh throat hit as that was at one point the largest request from smokers. Thus, it gives that "kick." Over time though some have found they don't like the feeling or that it gives them the feeling their chest is tight. Thus enters VG e liquid. VG is a different base and tends to be smoother and much less harsh. Something to keep in mind is that nicotine itself, if taken in large quantities can give you nasty heartburn, worse than you may have felt in the past. (Nicotine in high doses has been shown to cause GERD in certain individuals) In some people nicotine can weaken the lower esophageal sphincter (the muscle that controls the opening between the esophagus and stomach) and prevents the acid-containing contents of the stomach from entering the esophagus. I would suggest picking up some VG e liquid (The Vapor Talk store just started carrying VG liquid as an option) and also, try stepping down the strength. If you're on 24mg, perhaps think about moving down to 16mg. If the thought of stepping down makes you worry you might relapse then instead try to take some breaks in between heavy vaping. This will help ensure you're not ingesting nicotine too quickly. (Remember while the delivery is the same lung method, vaping itself is a bit different than smoking) EDIT: And yes, VG liquid will work in your eGo T. Though, 100% VG may cause it to clog. Vapor Talk VG e liquid is 70/301 point -
I agree with the others, why even start? Your friends that smoke are admiring you for not being stupid and starting in the first place like they did. They continue to smoke, because they need to, not because they want to, except when they want a smoke then it's because they "want" to. Stay strong! For them, if not for you. With that said, at least you're looking into Zero nic. I'll assume you have other reasons for being interested in vaping, such as weight control or stress control. Peer pressure isn't in the picture or you would be interested in switching to vaping instead of just starting vaping. To answer your questions, and leave my judgements behind, (faint), Some of the side effects include but are not limited to nor are they guaranteed to appear are: Acne, Dehydration, Allergic reactions to either a flavor or the PG or the VG, and Empty Wallet Syndrome. There are more, but most side affects are symptoms from quitting smoking and won't relate to you, a non smoker. Like McQuinn stated, we don't know what the future "problems" might be in gear for us. All we know is that we feel 90% better since we've stopped smoking due to focusing on ecigs/vaping instead. Even COPD patients are healing, which is quite miraculous. If you go through with this, hopefully your smoking friends will become curious enough to switch over. Is that your angle? If so, you don't have to vape it... just buy a kit (eGo), a variety of flavors, and pass them out as Christmas gifts or .... make it a rule that they can only vape at your house or in your car... or something will come to you besides the act of sucking on something. I'm assuming many things, I know. I just can't understand why you would want to start something like this. Vaping is 99% safer than smoking cigarettes as far as we can tell from first hand experience. But, not vaping and not smoking at all, is 200% safer all around. No getting around that. Good luck and welcome to VT.1 point

I have to agree. I wouldn't have started vaping except to get off analogs...much better ways to waste time and money!!1 point

Kanger Pro Tank
Uma reacted to danpio1217 for a topic
I've found the Protank to be pretty similar to the other Kanger products i've tried, which is 1 or 2 decent vapes then dry dry scratchy scratchy hits. They also do not fair well at all over 7 watts, which IMO is where most seasoned vapers vape. Removing the top wick worked great, throat hit and flavor immediately skyrocketed, and wicking issues disappeared, however it seems to be leaking badly every so often, seemingly when my tank gets low on juice. Any suggestions/thoughts? I'm 95% sure i only removed one wick, but i could be wrong. Guess i'll just have to swap heads and try again. I need to spend more time with these but once that top wick is removed it's really performing impressively.1 point -
I agree with mcquinn why even start? Am I missing something?1 point

It is still too early in the game to know for sure what the effects of vaping are.I am pretty positive they are less harmfull than smoking or dipping. It does seem to be addictive ,haven't heard of but a few folks who have quit vaping in the last four years.I don't think I would rcomend you start ,but if you do use no nic.1 point

Dekang juices from VapeLite, Dulcis from VT, Elixir RY4 PG from Janty, & custom blends from EC Blend...too many others to list here (there's a lot of really good juices on the market today), but those are a few of my favorite things.1 point
